Alux.com I purchased my first Meisterstuck ballpoint in 92 in black then the burgundy ballpoint in 93.
She explains that Mont Blanc is the highest peak in the Alps, and then states they wanted their "penultimate" pen to be named after the penultimate peak. Uh, sweetie, penultimate means "next to ultimate". I can only surmise that this was a failed attempt at a pun.
Also, it's pronounced "MY-stair-shtook", not "Myster-struck"

The Montblanc 148 is the cheapest pen in my collection. My TWSBI pens actually cost more. I bought the Montblanc in 1967 for the then full retail price of $33. Wish I had bought more of them. It is still working perfectly. It has survived the passing years better than my aging body.
That's so cool to hear. I'm currently 16 and saving up for a 149. I just got into the hobby last year and the 149 is currently my grail.

Bob, Montblanc have never issued a "148" since their manufacturing house began; I think you'tre referring to the 149, which is their flagship model in the Meisterstuck range.
I have a collection of about 48 Mont Blanc pens (rollerball, ballpoint and fountain). One pen I like very much is the MB Junior 620. It’s a piston fill type but it’s very unique and subtle appearance demonstrates that the writer has class and sophistication. This pen was a NOS (New old stock) never used before. It sat in a box since the mid 1970’s. I love this fountain pen.
I had purchased my first Montblanc (non-fountain)pen from a consignment shop here in NYC. Prior to the purchase, I had researched the difference between a fake and a real one which included the six-point "snow peak star", serial number, and "Made In Germany" print inside the clip. Such a wonderful pen and it never leaves me.

8:45 14k is NOT softer than 18k. 14k is harder because the alloy contains less gold.
It all depends on the alloy composition, treatment and nib thickness and curve.
Some 14k nibs are softer than some 18k and vice-versa. Carat count alone doesn't matter that much.
The most I have ever spent on a pen was $10,000 on a Tibaldi for Bentley 60th Anniversary Crewe edition pen with wooden box, outer box and papers. Only 60 were made.

You should do further research on the most expensive Montblancs. During a Montblanc collectors dinner in Dubai I was shown a pen worth over 1 million dollars.
Knows 15 things about Montblanc except how to properly pronounce the model name for the flagship model...from a proud and happy Montblanc Meisterstück owner.
The pronunciation here is truly hideous. Haven't heard German butchered so much, probably ever. But why-oh-why did she even put a letter in "Meisterstruck" is beyond me...

Montblanc pens are not made of solid gold. Only the nibs are. The rest is a plexiglass like plastic, hence the red hue under light. Also, 18k gold is softer than 14k, hence the higher gold content of 18k. The most I have ever spent on a pen was $1215. It's an S.T. Dupont Pheonix Renaissance fountain pen. I purchased this at wholesale through Touch of Modern. It retails at $3660. I also have 2 Montblanc pens, a Meisterstuck LeGrand Platinum Line, and a Meisterstuck 149 Platinum Line. I also have a Montblanc Tradition 116483 watch.

They are not made of plastic, they are made of natural resin - THAT'S why the red hue under light.
Thank you Ryan for making that clear. They did a good job of giving a brief history of the company, however, it is important to get the facts right and they made pretty poor statements in relation to the saying the pens as opposed to nibs are made of solid gold and not getting the facts right in terms of the 18K and 14K differences in hardness.
Spent about $25 on a pen but what was most interesting was that I thought they only made cologne for men. Fun facts to know, but now I want a Mont Blanc pen lol

I bought a beautiful Boheme ballpoint Platinum covered Mont Blanc around 4 years ago and baby'd it. Had it slip out of my pocket getting into the car while running late to work the other day. Was instantly gone. I was in love with that thing, only real one like it retails for over $1k now. I'm so sad that it's gone, it was stunning.
Never heard of a Montblanc pen before.
But glad to learn of a company that takes quality seriously and my dream pen from montblanc is the rose gold meisterstück classique
For those who truly understand (& appreciate) fountain pens, this presentation is a PR disaster - & I might imagine that Montblanc themselves would wish to distance themselves from same.
First: Montblanc have not always engraved their nibs with a serial number - this is a latterday addition, introduced less than thirty years ago.
Second: The word is 'Meisterstuck' - not "Meisterstruck", & whilst their nibs are indeed either 14 or 18K solid gold, the accents ~ cap bands, section bands & clips are gold plate.
Third: JFK proffered the Montblanc to Germany's Minister Adenauer - out of courtesy - with which to sign that accord; the pen itself was a Meisterstuck 149, also known as the "Diplomat's Pen", & has been used by the World's premiere's ever since for international (& domestic documentation) of import.
Four: Your constant repetition of the same facts suggests that the script was hopelessly written & poorly researched; moreover, the narrator appears to be fixated upon prestige - a classic signal that (she) belongs to the Nouveau Riche, ergo, those with more money than sense (or taste). I cringed, almost constantly for the duration, in the vain hope you might actually know what you're talking about, alas, I was unsuccessful....Kindly do us all a favour, & spare yourself the embarrassment in the future.
My wife and I both have Mont Blanc Pens, a Greta Garbo and a Boheme, they are a little expensive. They are works of Art.
I am 38 years old now and when I turn Twenty-One I bought myself a Louis Vuitton fountain pen for $758 and I still have it to this day 😍

A bit of misunderstanding from this video is the fact that she said the entire pen is made out of solid gold when she actually means just the nib of the pen which is a big difference. That's like saying you have a solid gold watch where only the face of the watch is solid gold. However, in the pen world a gold nib is the pinnacle of nib construction and Mont Blanc does craft exquisite solid gold nibs.
I own 2 Montblanc pens I am definitely gonna get a few more in the next few years. My entire family and extended family collects pens and we all have a Montblanc

I bought a MB 149 in about 1976 and I can't take it with me in my jacket pocket because it leaks and has done since I bought it. But it does write beautifully

Look up the definition. Then, do yourself and your subscribers a favor: spend a bit of money to have the VO corrected.
Mont Blanc they have amazing perfume line too , you have to mentions this .
It should be pointed out that only the Nib is made of gold. Most MB pen bodies are made of resin, and the 18k is softer than yhe 14k nib. Also it’s not for durability os cause gold is softer so it usually has a bouncier writing experience.
I spent 25 cents , bought a bic ball pen. Writes just fine. No complains.

No I heard that too.
Actually gold content does not necessarily determine how soft a nib is. Vintage flex nibs are mostly 14c, and are far more flexible than modern 18c nibs. A lot has to do with the other metals and alloys that are put in the nib material.

Len German: ist master "Stuck", not "master strack". "Stuck" means piece. So masterstuck means masterpiece! Now you learn something you didn't know about montbloc
I've had the Mont Blanc cologne. It was nice, but as I recall it didn't last a very long time.
I just buy the refills for $20 and put them inside a pilot G2 from Walmart. So basically you have a Montblanc for a $22.75 & not 200+

It’s Pilot Namiki my friend. However, Namiki is a separated segment from pilot and is know as Namiki only. Both brand shares a common model called “Falcon”

$179 for Montblanc StarWalker Midnight Black resin ballpoint at Costco. A good deal given that Montblanc sells on its website for $380. I like it but can’t see myself paying more for a pen. This is my first and only high end pen purchase.

I have Montblanc rollerball and ballpoint, and into buying a 149 fountain pen, now that I switched to fountain pen and looking for the bests pens and the bests inks (Pilot actually for me, but Montblanc is known for its inks too).
I own a Montblanc Meisterstuck special edition pen and also a wrist band gifted to me by my wife. In watches, not a big fan of Montblanc, because Breitling is the KING and pioneer of chronograph watches

Your pronunciation of Meisterstück is totally wrong. “-Stück“ does not have an „r“ in it.
Number 14 is completely wrong. Most Montblanc pens are made of their signature “precious resin” with metal accents.
The metal accents may be solid gold, or brass coated in gold, palladium, ruthenium etc. only some of their pens are made of metal, even most of those aren’t “made of solid gold”
I feel like they should delete this video. Someone at Montblanc should ask them to take it down. Too much misinformation.

I think the pronounciation is different for Masterpiece since ü is an umlaut and has a different pronounciation Master „meister“ piece „stück“. So I guess it is short oo instead of uh. And s is pronounced sh in this instance.

My aim in writing this review is so that the video can be edited and made much better. I feel there is no good reason to point out errors or deficits (things that should be included but are not), if we cannot learn and improve. First my compliments: the presenter has a nice voice and her attitude is positive. She sounds excited about this famous brand of pen. I cannot place her accent but the first thing I notice is that nobody taught her how to correctly pronounce "Meisterstück". She pronounces it "meister STRUCK". THERE IS NO R in the second half of the name. Also the letter "u" in German when it has an umlaut - the two dots over the Ü changes the pronunciation from the way a u would be voiced in English: instead of meister- stuck - [stuck as when a spelunker - someone who explores caves - gets stuck in a narrow passage...] - when it has the ümlaut it is pronounced meister-"Stook" the u sound is narrowed, and instead of sounding like "stuck" in English its more like Peregrine Took from Lord of the Rings - meisterstook.....I am not a native German speaker but I happen to enjoy pens hence the desire to pronounce the name correctly. The second area where there is room for improvement has to do with repetition: I did not make a count but it seems that apart from the link to the mountain, the number of years the company has been in. business and the brand representative along with some of the more expensive items produced, the video repeats over and over the link between the pen and the cost. It would be wonderful if we could learn about say the differences between Mont Blank fountain pens, ball points and roller ball type pens, their refills, the inks used and so on. I think of this video as a first draft and would love to learn more about the actual pens. Thank you.

I believe they were trying to say that all the pen nibs were made of gold.
Guys... 18 karat gold is softer than 14 karat gold, and more valuable (due to higher pure gold content of 75% vs only 58% for 14k), so the Meisterstuck pens would be made from 18 karat gold.
Some are 18 k and some are 14k. The nibs only, of course.

Huge like for not butchering English or rather the French name of the mountain in it. I guess most people are of very low intelligence to pronounce this brand with 'k' at the end. It's like they cannot even connect two dots, like they don't have two zigzags in their.... In Germany this brand is pronounced correctly with a silent 'c' by the way.
