I do think both shelton and bates are starting-caliber. Not high-end starter, but definitely 10 steps above our last few centers 😅
But Bates has a more solid base than Shelton, Bates plays with power and some nasty demeanor, while Shelton is more finesse. I think Bates should start at Center, he is going to surprise a lot of people.
Shane Waldron being boring is good hopefully he’s just a good oc and it delays his hc chances

The center is to quarterback as a catcher is to a pitcher.

Can someone explain why Coleman Shelton the guy who’s played a lot of snaps at center and played pretty well is the default second string over Ryan bates who has barely any snaps at center?
Maybe because Shelton DID NOT play well last season?
There is no clear starter they have said many times it’s a competition lol
Ryan Poles and Bears front office have a thing for Bates. They tried stealing him away from Buffalo 2 years ago but the deal fell through. Buffalo really wanted to keep him but they were too talented up front already so Bates didn’t play much. Bears saw something in him though.
Coleman has less physical talent. He is smaller slower and weaker than bates. The bears also gave more money to bates. That’s why
One was traded for and the other was a cut/released signed later at the veteran minimum

My guy. The media had ZERO to do with the Bears moving off of Fields. There's only 32 jobs open to be a starting QB in the NFL, the best of the best. JF1 had an opportunity to prove he was the guy, but he didn't. The Bears then did what EVERYONE in the league thought they should do, and that was reset the QB rookie clock and draft the best QB on the board who a lot of draft analysts have tabbed as one of the best best prospects in over a decade. Which, thankfully, they did!
Hoge and the other media members are simply pointing out what's in front of their eyes, like Caleb's ability to quickly get the ball out on those screen plays, which JF1 was not good at. When Caleb has a rough day or days at camp, they'll report on that as well.

It just seems to add unnecessary pressure. In Europe, a lot of fantical fans don't know anything about new players until their first friendly (exhibition) game
In soccer (football in your home land 😅) plays are not scripted ALL the time like 🏈 plays are. I wouldnt want to watch ⚽ practice either!

@@johnevans4397 Indeed footy biggest sport in the world. You aren't allowed to flop and pretend you got shot in NFL game. NFL is 11 men in harmony in a 5 second play. Footy is a marathon. Hell, France made the semis without a goal in regulation. Can't compare.
Adam - I feel that your reporting is so biased. Get off the Fields rant - time to move on. Not only is it old news, it is just ridiculous to make any comparisons based on Day 2 of camp with a totally new offensive staff and so many new offensive players.
