Just make it a monitor.....let it track with what you do on the radio....make it a 7 inch monitor, run the radio and see it on the big screen and have it follow the frequency and stuff in conjunction with the little screen. Second, have one db9 cable feed the controll monitors power, scope with one cable not 3 just like separating the mini head. Just one cable that does it all.

Not sure if you know this, but I'm reading the X5105 Facebook group and someone commented on a September 27 post there --- that the SDR receiver (50Khz-2GHz Malachite SDR Radio Malahit DSP) can be used as a X5105 pan adapter. "So I put my money where my mouth is and bought it. The answer is "Yes, the Malachit SDR can be used as a panadapter for the X5105!". Tune to the IF of 70.455 MHz (or close), connect to the IF output and switch on the IF output in the system menu. See the photo. The antenna is inside and very small and, unsurprisingly, the signals don't rise much above the noise on the bandscope, but the waterfall is very clear. I'll check it sometime with a better antenna and outdoors, but this is sufficient as a proof of concept. Much easier than an SDR dongle plus laptop." Also this, search UA-cam for "Xiegu X5105 Panadapter Bandscope Using USB Dongle"
Jason I bought the G 90 did mars mod. Worked fine but when I hooked up GSOC mars want TX any more. But if you hit the tune on antenna turner you get rf power out. They need to fix many things. W4BAD Harold
Xiegu support emailed me recently, to expect a firmware update in early Feb/22. Here is a portion of their email: "As far as I know, Xiegu is working on a new firmware update for GSOC. We expect there will be a firmware update within one month (if there is no delay)." I belive that the GSOC and Xiegu X6100 share similar platforms. Now that the Xiegu X6100 is rooted, I hope that the GSOC will receive community support to root it as well and add additional features and improvements.
I'll hold off on the GSOC for a while and hopefully more firmware updates come along that give more functionality. That being said though, I do plan on picking up an X5101 sometime in the new year, that radio looks fantastic for portable ops.
Great presentation! Disappointing for the price. So many fine transceivers with excellent displays for the same price. Next time, they should reverse engineer the IC-7300 a little more carefully.
Has anyone come up with a good reason for buying one of these? I have watched your reviews of the GSOC, and others, and I still cannot see a good reason to spend $500+ to add a larger screen to my G90. Am I missing something, as I really cannot see the point of this unit as it stands?
Thanks for a nice video! Please make a video with Xiegu X5105 connected and working with GSOC. There is no such a video on a whole youtube! Thanks in advance!
Hello.I did the update.much to do about nothing. I want to see both WiFi and Bluetooth. As an early that waited approx 1 yr. This thing is the worst piece of radio I have ever purchased. But thank you for the update. By the way my waterfall does work and does run across the screen like other sdr radios I've seen. Fyi. Ron. X.z.
You show that change vfo frequency with the knob was not working, look at vlog: K8MRD Xiegu GSOC in dept review, when he use the knob the change of vfo frequency it is working fine . How about that, have I not understand someting? 😀
It's VFO. And yes the frequency changed. I said the waterfall didn't change, and it didn't. The frequency change always worked but the waterfall never has.
@@HamRadio2 Ok you are right, it was the waterfall that not was changed when using the knob. Very bad. I presume that your G90 has the latest firmware update when doing the GSOC tests. It is remarkable that Xiegu is launching the GSOC when fundamental function not are working. (where is the Wifi 😕) Thank you for the funcion tests of the GSOC and all other radio related test you are doing. 👍😊. Well done.
The state of this device is not acceptable considering it's more expensive than the G90 itself. Would be really cool if they just made it work well on a basic level.
GSOC shold have a digi capability. It shold have a ft-8 terminal for instance. Presence of digi terminal would be a good reazon to have it. Unfortunately there is no any reason to buy it now!
I haven't witnessed ANY follow ups to any GSOC update from anyone, but , as of my recent update to firmware 1.3, (1Aug21) my GSOC scrolls like a champ through the waterfall.
@@dennisschultz1175 To my satisfaction I believe the firmware update worked. I did however still have 2 anomalous shutdowns, while using the unit which may be due to battery voltage used to run the unit.
I can confirm that V1.3 does address the waterfall scrolling. However, I only see it scrolling on 7m and not on 20m. [*** Correction below***] (Those are the only 2 bands I tested.) 73's. K8JAZ.
So far I do like the GSOC. I can agree with those that say it is 'unfinished'. However, a large touch screen is Wonderful and has a lot of potential intuitiveness. I believe that either Xiegu or the open source community will address these issues. The price will then accelerate well past the $375 I paid, to well over $550+. (I also purchased this after waiting on the Xiegu X6100. The X6100 has now been 'hacked' by open source and will be amazing in time. I expect/hope for the same with the GSOC.)
@@dennisschultz1175 - 1.3 added features and is reported to have solved a few issues. I went from 1,1 to 1.3 since I was waiting for CW decode. I have not yet used the GSOC enough to give you a good answer. The flash procedure is fine, but documentation is seriously lacking. We are all waiting for more updates.
So sad, this had potential, but the way it is I see no real use case for it. Even if they fixed all the bugs, I just don’t see what the need is. The issues seem fundamental. If I really want a bigger waterfall I could run the I/Q into an SDR program. I don’t think I would use RTTY on this device. Also why have a big graphical interface based on an android, but not incorporate more digimodes, allow for a camera or a way of doing SSTV, be able to use it without removing the head of the G90, etc. At a greater cost than the radio in my opinion it really mostly brings negatives, especially in portable operation.
Still pretty disappointing. I feel like they released this just to buy them some more time. Unacceptable. They need to get their act together. I still have not purchased one and it is highly unlikely that I will.

I wouldn't buy this based on the single fact that the touch screen in every video I've seen doesn't even seem to work very well. Every video I have watched with the GSOC, people have to touch the screen multiple times to select a menu item.
I bought my GSOC several years ago when CS offered it at a HUGE discount. I've never even opened the box it came in. Now I'm not even sure I want too...
Great video - Upgraded to 1.3 a treat
How much better is 1.3? Does it all work now?

On the latest firmware V1.3 if you click on the System box when the system box appears they put the update version fw v1.3 on the top title bar.

It's linux and you can run doom on it, the original soc firmware was android. A full Android or Linux platform would be good
