Just carry. Him/her around with you and speak normally. They pick up on things that interest them. You’re a good bird, you’re a pretty bird, what are you doing? Here we go. Etc. They’re great. The girls can talk they just don’t as often. Also they like a bit of drama.

They take a lot of care. Please make sure you thoroughly do your research. Not all cockatiels will be like the sweet ones you see in videos. They each have their own personality. Males are the only ones who talk and whistle tunes, females tend to be more quiet so make sure you buy the gender you want. Also, many things can kill your tiel including Teflon pans, candles, fabreeze (any smelly sprays), plug in smelly stuff and even oven roasting bags. Please dont buy just because they are cute. They are a lot of work and require more then seeds but fruits and veggies. Also, they need vet care. It pains me to see someone make a huge commitment only to let the fascination wear off and they become neglected or abused.

I feel like a cockatiel is something kinda big to start with for ur first bird so I agree with ur parents I think u should get a tamed budge and show them how responsible u are for like 6 months or so then I think they will get u a cockatiel 🤍goood luck 🦋
As a fellow birb fanatic I'm the proud owner of a dozen budgies and 2 african greys. The dietary costs of all the 10 budgies combined won't even scratch the cost of a single african grey. Large parrots are a huge commitment
But stay strong and start with an easy birb like a finch or budgie like the answer above me has explained. You'll eventually get to the finish line! 😉

Believe me it's so heartbreaking when the time comes to lose them, so it's better for you not to have cocktail, I had 4 they died one after the other now only one is with me, n I'm living in fear to lose him

This video reminds me of how grateful I am for my cockatiel Chipper who just became 17 years of age. He’s very sweet and interactive with a clownish personality. When I brought him home from the bird specialty store, I noticed that he was missing a toenail. I’m not sure if it was due to a birth defect or something but I think that was why potential humans overlooked him and didn’t see that he had so much to offer. I believe that cockatiels are the epitome of the phrase “Good things come in small packages.” These little birds have so much to offer in personality and companionship.

it’s weird that workers in pet stores don’t know that cockatiels talk, sent my dad to go get a few things from the pet store and when he told them he had a cockatiel and that he talks they were shocked

Are any of these birds yours? How long does it take honestly for them to start talking or singing something other than a few whistles? Mine is 1 1/2 years old and he doesn’t talk or sing more than a few whistles. He’s a lutino cockatiel. Which is the all white and yellow , with the red cheeks. I know Google says after one year but honestly can it take a few years or is it more likely if he hasn’t started within this amount time my bird won’t speak?
