ABBA were masters of all things music & this is meant to be thin. Imaging being on a beach in a beach chair. You have your eyes closed & you're being soothed by the sounds of the ocean. "Tropical Loveland" starts playing & blends in perfectly. My opinion.
Wether it might seem 'thin' or not let's not forget that it was recorded in '74/75.If you listen to other artists recordings of that time you can clear out at once that ABBA's productions were miles away more superior than the sound of that era's stuff that sounded outdated even a couple of years after. Most of Abba's material still sound fresh and lush in '22.
You have to react to Abbas song Cassandra. It was recorded for their never really finished 1983 album. It's about the fall of troya and cassandra was a clairvoyant who foresaw the misfortune, and nobody listened to her until it was too late. Quite interesting choice for a song-theme, but it's such a great song in my opinion, one of my favorits with Frida on lead vocals :)
@@bretta2221Oh! That exciting ending with the crowd rushing on the studio stage to hug them eh?!As if they knew it was the last time till the next 40 years....
Accordion wasn't that often in a reggae song.Benny's musical Scandi folk roots made him blend this in it and gave a smooth sound to this 'relaxing' number.
Not in reggae perhaps, but in other kinds of latin/european influenced folk music in South America, Central America, the Caribbean and Cuba. Benny knew that.
@@herrbonk3635 Mediteranian Europe too.Accordion was the first instrument he got as a liitle kid.Self taught. He said his mother was very proud of him playing that good. She was telling other people her son is a great player despite his young age and people didn't believe until she was telling him "Show Them!"....lol.
If I'm not mistaken "Stting In A Palm Tree" is another song they did with the exact same tune. Agnatha also did a tropical, Caribbean-type song later, as a soloist called " The Heat Is On" which is a bit more upbeat and pretty much a party song. Their time saw an influx of Caribbean sounds into the pop world from Bob Marley to Ska and more which various pop groups incorporated into their sounds, so part of a wave of influences as the world becomes a smaller place. And Marisa's 5-star smile makes the whole channel for me, along with her intelligent thoughtfulness :) Tyler, you're cool, too.
This is the B side of Fernando that I’m familiar with. It has a reggae Jamaican sound. There is bass and it’s loud. I understand the feeling of something missing and I believe it’s either the strings, synth or electric guitar. They’re trying to make this sound simple with just a focus on the beat. You might like the song that preceded this one and it’s called Hey Hey Helen.
You need to listen to the song instead of constantly interrupting the flow. If you listen to the song from beginning to end you would be able to get the mood and vibe they were aiming for. They performed this song while they were on their Australian tour and their media appearances during their time spent there and Frida dedicated it to Australia in her comments prior to the TV performance while down under.
of course "Waterloo" at the Eurovision Song Contest it's iconic and historic performance when ABBA schock the world and "Move on" is one of the hidden gems in "ABBA The Album"
Oh come on guys, this song maybe is not their best one but it's not as bad as some people do here (comments like "ban the one, who suggested it", "it's not worth reacting to"...). I wonder if you would say the same if Agnetha had the lead. Tropical Loveland is way better than King Kong Song.
@Lex I always liked TL. It's great when songs have musical abundance (I hope this is the right word) like The Day Before You Came but sometimes also such "ordinary" songs are wellness for the ears. Above all with such a velvety voice like Frida's. 🥰
This was from ABBA’s 3rd album and yes, they were still figuring out their sound…and really found it with this album’s tracks SOS and MAMMA MIA. I agree that the production on this one is thin but I feel they found their harmonic gold here. It sounds like they were hopping on the reggae craze with this one and also experimenting with throwing stray instrumentation into the mix to keep their songs from becoming redundant. I still love it for the vocals.
String synth is a Solina (AKA an ARP String Ensemble). Quite an appealing vintage keyboard sound. Frida's voice is even more sensual than usual, on this one. "Happy Hawaii" is a similar feel, and very catchy too! They're quite versatile. Check out "My Mama Said" "Man In the Middle" "Intermezzo #1" to name yet a few more.
You two crack me up. Whether you LOVE an ABBA song, or are just not too sure about it....you are ALWAYS fun & entertaining to watch!!! I agree. This is an ordinary early song of theirs. But an example of their wide array on their musical pallet. PLEASE try "Dance (While The Music Still Goes On). Another early song of theirs, but one of my favorites!!
ABBA lite lol But you got to remember this album also has a lot of bangers on it such as mamma. Mia, SOS and rock me. Me so this album was a mixture of where they were going and what they found when they got there
I dont think it needed anything else added to it..,its perfect for its purpose,as is 99,9 procent of ABBAs song....this was made to be a soft carribean music style little pearl, and it is...

@@Lisa-M They might do this in time..."due to huge public demand" lol!.That was also one reason that even made Abba themselves go back in the studio after 4 decades.Ok Tyler/Marissa,go for it!
I'm confident that Tropical Loveland and Bang a Boomerang were written and produced about Australia and while touring Australia. Possibly not done in their usual studio and over the usual period of time to produce a great song. I've seen a clip of this song where Agnetha is on piano and Benny is on Accordian.
I've only heard Frida not be too enthused about two ABBA songs and this is one of them. The other is 'Dum Dum Diddle'. ABBA were still trying to 'find their sound' and were experimenting. So the early albums are an odd mix of styles. Folky Schlager and Glam Rock plus they had these Reggae/Calypso influenced numbers. 'Sitting In The Palmtree' is another example while the live version of 'Honey Honey' has a definite Reggae rhythm. It's an okay song, beautifully sung but Björn's lyrics would improve and the studio production would ramp up as time went by.
Apart from the slightly silly title, I just LOVE "Dum Dum Diddle" .. It's a melodic gem ! .. Still it's not uncommon for artists to come out later and say they didn't like certain songs they did, only for me to totally disagree with that assessment .. This may be one of those cases.

Yes that's a good way to describe it. I think if there were only singles and no b-sides & album tracks then ABBA just wouldn't have the same appeal - I'd much rather listen to one of ABBA's regular album releases than ABBA Gold for instance. Reggae & slamming drums & accordiam + sweet vocals - it's a tropical popouri.
I would like to see you two listen and react to ABBA Undeleted, which are ABBA songs that were never released. Based on how much you've listend to them, you can compare the unreleased songs with the released songs. Also, maybe you can also react to "Soldiers" (if you have not done so).
It’s a big “meh” for me. An interesting comparison recorded at the same time for the same album would be “Intermezzo #1”……unless you’re looking for glitter-plated, honey drenched, sweet-as-a-gum-drop, pure ABBA ditty. In case go with “Bang a boomerang”
This is one of my least favorite ABBA songs....it's OK but you should try "Just Like That" which was never released because Benny and Bjorn didn"t like it and so they selected "Just a Notion" instead for the Voyage album. Hard choice between the two. Next...when are you going to get into Agnetha's solo albums?...c'mon, did I not steer you wrong on "I Let the Music Speak" featuring Frida! Try Agnetha's "Man", which she wrote..."I Was Flower"...."I Won't Let You Go" which will lead you more of her albums/songs. She is terrific! Also apparently now ABBA is all over TikToc attracting a whole new generation of young people just like you two. "Angel Eyes" is huge there. Just sayin'.......oh, by the way, you two were made for each other!!!!
Just Like That wasn't even an option, and it would not have been fitting for the Voyage album. Just A Notion was an easy and right choice. I also don't understand the context in which you mention Agnetha's solo albums and Frida's vocal part in "I Let The Music Speak." This is still an ABBA song, not her solo stuff.
One of their B grade songs not really worth bothering to react to if we're honest. Not sure why you picked it. Didn't even make it to the end of the video such is its status in the Abba catalogue.
