There was a time in life when I would really practice music very hard.
Though accolades showered aplenty with none daring to point-out my flaws as I bridged the gap efficiently between old-school and modern but then...my mediocrity would not suffice to please my own senses.
So instrument or no instrument...i would learn to sing my solos first!
So there was something which would drive me to play-rewind-play that flat-top cassette player while adjusting the speed of the HEAD with a minuscule Philips screwdriver to study (specially quick passages) attempting to transcribe Guitar solos.
No time for food, water or sleep...making time for music in the absence of internet and T.V ...just some old gramophone records and tapes if not the fleeting radio plays to listen to great original masters.
In the absence of notation and knowledgeable and advanced tutors we tried...God knows we did to sound right...

The list above is just what I remember from then.
Now UA-cam is the music-teacher where one can choose from so many great patient transcriptions and free lessons.
So I think I'll start forgetting and begin re-learning with this one first. Since I find out rather late in my career that my wrongly-gauged- accuracy is not a proud feat to gloat over in fact I have to wipe the slate clean and start afresh on the same track.
Extemporization and improvisation over an established tune may be virtuosity but respecting the original by performing note for note would be paying the greatest respect both; to the original performer (composer) and to the audience and lastly of course to yourself...to the one who is taking the time to hone ones skills.
