Thank you so much for this, I was born in Padiham and my Father grew up and worked in Burley as did his Father and family.
I was born in Burnley but left at the age of 5.

Hi just wondering if you know how and why certain areas got their names like I grew up in the queens gate area and I’m really interested in finding out if they was any relevance to the names of the Burnley areas like duke bar Burnley wood etc?hope anyone can help me gain a bit more knowledge thx Ian take care all!

Also what happened to the two Russian cannons?
I think I once read somewhere that they got melted down to make ammunition for the Great War
That’s not true I can remember seeing them probably into the nineties,then they just disappear wtf,if anyone knows what happened to them please let me know thanks
Dumped at sea after they were found useless for melting down during wwii.
In the USA they spell 'neighborhood' but growing up in Burnley (Harle Syke / Lane Head) it's spelt 'neighbourhood'. Aside from that nice one.....
