wow you must love smelling your own bm just read and learn what a no talen arse h arthur was and how he treated talented people. but of course you must get all of your dribble not from real history but from msnbc etc
Men of class and honor and it showed in the way they work and how they take pride in their work in a professional manner yet with humility and firmness.
This is full of fascinating stuff - as well as the really detailed overview of how planes work, an interview with a US WW1 pilot, and another with the first commercial pilot to cross the Atlantic. Amazing stuff!!
A couple years ago I took my Grandson to the Shannon Air Museum in Fredericksburg Va. they where showing a clip of this movie, turns out Capt. Merrill was the first manager of the Museum.
The DC-3 was an amazing aircraft, it had the ability to fly under a lot of conditions land in the Pacific and bring supplies and they did it with such precision, and it was amazing when they turned the DC-3, and other aircraft into Puff the Magic Dragon, if you carry all that supplies you can carry a lot of ammunition and destroy the enemy with devastating Firepower in the dc-8
ASAP with Campbell landed at near one of my properties in Upstate New York, they were having the air show in the area and I guess he had technical problems he landed right on my lawn
One thing about this craft is that we didn't adopt what we had captured from Germany the swept Wing design, after testing these aircraft you should understand immediately that the swept Wing design was superior to the flat wing especially when you're using jet engines
I remember going into I think it was TWA, back then you had hot waitresses the best food you could possibly you didn't even get food like this in restaurants and the girls would just like supermodels it was the most amazing experience now that throw peanuts at you and everybody's looking to make sure nobody goes near the cockpit
I doubt they really had any passengers on board..I'm not sure when they're filming the cockpit scenes they're actually in the air. I'd really like to know how Dick Merrill truly felt about Godfrey..
You saw how he landed this big plane with a minimum of wheel contact that was razor, look at when he makes contact with the runway, that is this is real men do stuff like this
The Army was smart when they met the Wright brothers they said this thing looks like it can be something that consistently Works they gave them $5,000 to make plans, and every time they tested them they flew further and higher
We had real men that came back from World War II and a lot of them were B-29 Pilots, Pilots that flew Stratofortress, these were real men that have followed American traditions our Traditions are so good, end their transition from the war many of the Great American war heroes was in movies, expounding and exuding American values, and we develop exponentially, we even as a young child I knew what aircraft was I know what about the engines I know about the wings I know how they fought in the War with the tragedies was and that maybe in the future we going to have to do the same thing so we were primed to defend our country, when you're taught by a man you're going to be a man
@ privately Captain Eddie used to say that Arthur was a pain in the ass and he used to call him or rat bastard and he said what he did to Julius La Rosa was the worst thing ever
Arthur Godfrey, in my humble opinion, is exemplary. High moral principle, and an example of that temporal virtue of prudence. A gem of a gentleman.
Please read a note about him in Wikipedia. He wasn't always a gentleman like in this movie.

Dick Merrill is a legend. Look him up. The guy flew basically everything from early aviation to modern airliners before retiring.
Agreed. An absolute legend.
@@thesooguy3401 thanks, he absolutely was legendary

Treasure aviation video!!
At 3:20, not a "compound-engine-powered" Super Connie. No PRTs.

These are real men and there's no nonsense here
They call it Feathering the blades I learned this from a Air Force guy

He fathered all three engines and still had enough power from one engine, to keep stable and to land just think about the redundancy here
His neighbors hated the DC-3 making all that noise and rattling dishes.

20,000 ft with no oxygen it must be diesel

The mechanics stay on the plane with the pilots don't, they own the plane it's not the top gun or none of these guys to a certain degree
Captain eddy hated Arthur and would never invite him to any parties
