In the early 1990s, my girlfriend's dad had a beautiful home in this same area. One week she was house sitting, and we took the opportunity to hike around the area. We encountered the ruins of homes, public facilities, utilities and roads that had been destroyed in the 1950s. The main road leading to her dad's neighborhood was uneven, bumpy and constantly being repaved, and there were areas where utility pipes were run on top of the ground instead of being buried. This was all because of the creeping land movement. Mind you, this was about 1991, so the problems are well known to everyone in the area. When I asked my gf if her dad was concerned about the land movement, she said he was not. He figured the land was moving so slowly, his expensive home would be safe for his lifetime. He was right, because he passed away about 10 or 12 years ago. It's someone else's problem now.

Look into an area in Morgan County Colorado. For years, corrupt land owners and paid council members allowed land to be built into a subdivision. The water comes out as black sludge. After multiple tests... it has been discovered that it contains what you should build a dirty bomb with. However, prior to the testing, these people were watering their lawns with this water. The landowners then sold more lots, more people moved in. The permits were approved by city council. CO AG had ignored complaints until finally the Denver news did an investigation on this.
How many families, people with children will get sick because someone put their personal wealth over others lives???? The people in this subdivision live in mobile homes rather than large spreads so they will not be able to afford good medical care, afford to move.

How do you rationalize that and say, "Oh well, I'll invest $1.5 million here anyway." When I was looking at homes, I wouldn't consider any property that was in a flood zone, let alone property that was constantly on the move. I can't wrap my head around their thinking. Those properties should never had been developed in the first place. And don't tell me hindsight is 20/20 because the sliding land was well-known.

All buyers in Southern Calif. of residential property receive and sign for disclosures including a "zone report" that their property is in a "liquefaction zone". Basically built on sandy soil with possible deep water table under that, mixed this is quicksand. Never known any buyers to be concerned about that during the purchase process.

One super heavy rainstorm could cause tha slip to calve off and tumble based on underlying geology, soil, bedrock ect. A house isn't worth you life. Strip everything and start over in another shell. If you live there in multi million dollar homes, I'm pretty sure you can afford to move. You picked the spot knowing where it was, that is on you. if you didn't have a proper survey and core drill like you are supposed to and bring it to the geology lab. Then probability of activity possible, sediments reading for probability of how deep, and what material would be the catalyst for a situation like this one. Always be thorough.

I live next to the area, it is the best place to live if you work in LA. Most of the area was not moving, yes there is an area that has been moving a long time. Those homes were put on huge Ibeams in the 70's and the owner would jack to level. Never mind the homes have move off their GPS marked maps years ago. Now the whole area is moving, fast. This has never happened. Big problem. Most are ultra rich some are not so much. I almost bought a home in the slide area but to pricey for the exposure.

Mediterranean climate. This isn’t caused by earthquakes or fault lines. It’s a landslide cause by an unstable top layer sliding off a slippery lower layer and into the ocean. Decades ago road construction inland cut into the top layer and setting it free to slide down.

Ok THey had the electricty turned off to stop fires! If any Weather front shows up, water will make the slide quicker! Are these people watching? There are hurricanes move in that area now. People need to help each other and move out and store their stuff ?! Than get the help for all those costs! California has fire and earthquakes. NO state can pay for all that help needed. WE are in crazy hard times. Please break out of system and help yourselves. Find out what you can get to move out! A state of Emergency has come in. Maybe there is more to help but get out! The storms may come. Even tropical storms. The land is moving, you move This is not a politcal stance to stand your ground. This is different!
