We are very proud of them, because they defended our land for centuries, and were very strong, invaders of those time were afraid of them. Those warriors are called "kozaks", and they are one of the symbols of ukrainians glory and character. So, now our soldiers defend our country against russian invaders, and we equal our warriors to the powerfull kozaks.

I've noticed some confusion regarding the bird's name in the comment section. Some say it's a crane while others believe it's a stork. Now, both are typical of Ukraine.
Cranes are depicted as the souls of the soldiers who passed away in the heat of a battle and were rewarded for their service with another life as a crane so that they could stay with their families or fly across the country to enjoy the look of a free land they helped to preserve. These birds also have another meaning: if a person is not able to physically reunite with their motherland, then their thoughts about it take the shape of a crane and travel back home. In a nutshell, cranes are an embodiment of one's love for their home.
Storks symbolise family and family love. They bring luck to good people with hearts of gold, so if you see a stork's nest on the rooftop of somebody's home, it means that a noble person lives there. Seeing a flying stork is a good sign. It means you'll be fortunate soon and happiness will find you. If you kill a stork, your house will burn down, for it is an innocent bird who never does harm to anyone so killing it is like killing a child.
If you google these birds and look carefully on their wings, you'll see that in this video it's actually a stork. This choice is fitting 'cause the song is filled with promise. The message is simple: we did nothing wrong to you, but you came to do harm; you will be punished for your actions and we'll continue to live happily.

You should probably read a little about Zaporozhian Cossacks, Ukrainian worriers, if you want to understand better the spirit of the song and the nation. Cossacks were free people inhabiting those wild fields. Thought originally just Ukrainians escaping serfdom, anyone could join in, regardless of nationality, social class or even religion in some cases, if they stood for freedom. They have created their own warrior society and their own country. It is one of the most interesting parts of Ukrainian history. They were holding their ground while existing completely surrounded by 3 large, powerful empires that all tried to concur their land and and subjugated their people for centuries. These people were fears. In Ukrainian the word [volya] is holy, you can read it in our code of arms, it means both freedom and the will, for one is impossible without the other. We also have an expression volya or death.

I agree with you, this song has deeper meaning that it looks on first look. For example the song shows us the path of Ukraine defenders from Cossacks with hetman Khmelnitsky to our time army. Cossacks you can see during all song (men with swords and out-dated guns): 1:29 2:52 4:06 4:12 etc.
12:51 - it's a stork. We believe that if stork make a nest on someone's house, people in this house are happy and they are really good humans. Therefore it's a symbol.
9:30 I think that it's also symbol of hard Ukraine path to the freedom. It can be a little more understandable for the people who know ukrainian, but I can try to explain this thing. We have a phrase "thorny path" which mean a difficult way to reach something. And we can see flowers are growing from this thorn which envelope our national symbol, it's mean that we haven't reached our goal (600 - years battle for freedom is continuing) and all enemies who wanted to steal our right for liberty are dead now, because for ukrainian human the most important things are freedom, family and our friends.

In folklore they were able to cure wounded soldiers, catching bullets, walk on water, and was almost immortal, and can be killed only by silver bullet in heart.

they're Ukrainian warriors from the past called kozaks and heroic examples of bravery for our solders.
Beads are the strings of corals that kozaks gave as presents to their loved ones when back from battles (it's part of traditional outfit of Ukrainian woman as well as wild flowers wreath for younger woman or head wrap for mothers).
Stork (or crane, not a swan) is a symbol of family happiness in Ukrainian folklore.
Horuvims are seraphims angels.
The ships represented the ones that were destroyed in current war by Ukrainians ( also a phrase "Russian warship, go fuck yourself" was recently commemorated on Ukrainian stamp.

So its based a lot on our ancient culture - ancient gods, saint mother-land, glorious warriors etc. One more detail here is position of a woman in all this old history. Magic was used in ukrainian culture as usual element of life for protection, for having good luck and health. Magic-folk songs were used to honor gods, ancestors and to ask for their help if need. Here woman's vocal sounds (both text and music) exactly like this special song - a kind of witches spell . Woman with weapon shows that our women are ready to fight together with their men. Not only help with prays, but really take weapon and fight. It happened centuries ago and it happens now. Over 30.000 women-soldiers in Ukrainian army right now defend our Home together with our glorious men.
