Woohoo, 100 miles Congrats! and what a view for your reward. taking a break and letting your knee heal and letting the weather warm up sounds like a great idea.😊
I live here and it’s been colder than normal January. Usually the snow and ice melts next day but it’s still around. Another cold week coming and you’re probably higher elevations now. Be safe.
Congrats on passing 100 miles! I know you were excited to see that "sign" on the fire tower. That's some cold temps but y'all early out of the gate hikers get some of the best views of the ridges and skyline!
I’m cold just watching! Go easy on yourself. Managing zeroes to heal and warm the body is a big part of AT success! Consider it a key tool in your toolbox to go to whenever you need it.
I did that same 100 miles in one go. My knees hurt for 3days after. Take a few days off and heal. You started early, so you have plenty of time. You CAN do it.
Done Georgia twice in February, it’s amazing that your in NC in January, and looking at this year’s weather heading toward the Smokies will be quite challenging. There are big pluses to being ahead of the bubble though. Good luck on whatever you decide. Entering so far! ~Mt. Goat
Congratulations!! 100 miles ✔️. So proud of you but worried now about the temperature 🥶🥶 and your knee! Beautiful views today! Take care, keep warm. And rest. 🥾🏕️🧗🏼♂️🥶
Congrats on reaching 100 miles. I’ve hiked in cold weather accomplishing the 35 peaks in the Catskill Mountains and I a say you are a brave soul hiking in such cold weather. The beautiful thing in your video besides yourself is the views. They are the most crystal clear views I’ve ever seen with thru hikers on the AT. That’s what low humidity and low temperatures provide us. I saw your video that you are crashing for awhile due to knee. Take easy Wolfie. I know you will be entertaining us soon! Bravo! 👏🌎🏔️🏕️🥾❤️👍
Make sure you got enough layers and the right materials. Layers makes all the difference, but no shame in taking warm shelter when needed. Thanks for sharing brother. By the way, are you on othet social media platforms I can follow? -Acorn
That view! I guess that’s the reward for hiking that early, though 4 degrees seems a little extreme! 😂 hope the knee is benefiting from the break, take care.
Great job getting yourself safely off trail. I think your mileage is really impressive given the condition. Thanks for the temp updates along to way, really drives home home tough the conditions are right now. For future reference, the north side decent after Wayah Bald Firetower is also nice a cruizey.
I'm so sorry to hear this news on your knee. You've been doing so incredibly well. I hope you take as much time off as you need to be strong on the trail. Incredible scenery. I'm honestly a bit surprised to see flowing water with it so cold. Congratulations on 100 miles!
OMG that's cold!!!!! Stay safe! Happy Birthday and Congrats on your first 100 miles!! OH CRAP! I just saw you hurt your knee!!! DAMN! I hope it's really minor and passes after some "vitamin I".
I know, that was a week ago, but for future reference, rub some Aspercreme on a sore knee and put some soft pants on, or wrap it in a towel and rest. I use it for arthritis in my hands, with soft gloves over it, and it's very effective, better than Ben-Gay and odorless.

What an awesome day for a hundred mile view! Hope you're still resting in healing!
Keep up the good hike Frank. Somewhere near where you are in this video we took 3 days off due to the cold. Hope the knee feels bettah!

Backpacking in the cold is one thing but having to use your fingers to manipulate things is where it gets tough!

Congrats on the 100! I hope you did not cause significant injury to your knee and were also able to stay out of those cold temps for a few days.

Do what's best don't risk frost bite.

Well … you’ve got a 5% head start … take a few days (maybe even a week) of rest … 50 degree days will come soon enough
What a fantastically clear day to reach that milestone!
Hang in there, this is why people don’t leave so early. And it’s a cold snap in the southeast don’t quit
Good luck with the knee rest and elevate on your zero day

Your weather is about to get worse! Stay safe out there.
My two cents? When you do get back on trail, take a knee brace with you.
So sorry about the knee !😢
HOLY MOLY!!!
🦋❤️
Yes, January in the high elevations in the Appalachian mountains. No offense but don't go on any long distance A.T. hike until April.
