Man, is it really that bad nowadays? 😔 The “Give ‘Em the Boot” compilations were my introduction to punk when I was a kid, so I’ll always have a soft spot for Hellcat. I have no idea what’s is on their current roster though.

You’re only saying that Tim Armstrong likes female fronted punk bands. We’re pretty much all snotty and have tattoos; that’s basically just being a punk chick. Hellcat is a punk, ska label. That doesn’t make them Brody clones. Doesn’t either prove or disprove your theory. I like the interrupters quite a bit and never liked the distillers really. Only like that they had that Seneca falls song since I live in Rochester not far from there where Susan b Anthony lived and am the daughter of the former city historian. Never understood what was so great about Brody. Then again I likely partially hated her bc I’ve always had a crush on Tim Armstrong. Still, I’ve never been big on the whole female vocalist thing though there are significant exceptions especially in the years since the distillers and having met ALOT more cool chicks than I knew before (all of whom also seem to hate other chicks lol) I don’t get what the big deal is but when I toured with my own back some years ago it was always a big question especially in interviews about how it was being a girl in a band full of guys and that question WAS the weird part. The guys were great. I had a blast. Never had an issue that I was a girl surrounded by guys. Not a single time.

Wow. This song is just not even remotely doing it for me. Love Brody Dalle, though. I tend to be pretty forgiving (and favorable) towards Brody clones. But this song ain't it.

CORAL FANG BY DISTILLERS IS ONE OF THE BEST PUNK ALBUMS OF ALL TIME. PLUS, BRODY HAS HER VERSION OF HYBRID MOMENTS. SO GOOD.

Interrupters are definitely a success story, but Dropkick Murphys are easily the bigger success story.

It’s more like a clone of the band civet who were also on hellcat once. But civet were really good compared to this. Bonk bonk is just terrible.

let’s no forget Amy Miret from Nausea who perfected this style of gravelly female vox. before courtney. idk bonk bonk is ok I get the appeal but sounds outdated & seems very paint by numbers. & yeah Tim is definitely holding a torch for Brody all these years later

Yeah, Tim's vocals have that intentional, weird accent and pronunciation thing, and she doesn't do that at all. Freeman's a better comparison.

Basically he's sleeping with them, they tell him they want to make music, so he promises them he'll hook them up with whatever music/song they wanna do. (Not amy interrupter of course) but this girl and Sky sweetman who he did into action with.
Yep. That's pretty much it. He's in his 50s and these younger girls are willing to have sex with him for a shot at a song. It is what it is.
Brody is talented as hell. She's got a great voice and can play guitar and write her own shit. She's got talent to begin with and she is charismatic.

As a former addict (and a female), “heroin drawl” is such an apt description. I don’t really know why heroin changes your voice, but this is exactly what it sounds like. Thankfully, it’s temporary. 😅

i expected this to be much darker because for me male musicians "cloning" their former (also musician) usually connotes the likes of, like, titanic sinclair or ethan kath which carries with it a set of heavier implications so this was almost a pleasant surprise. respectfully, i think it's very easy to avoid comparing this to the interrupters or the distillers if you do not think of 'female-fronted' as a genre.

This isn't just a vocal style, this is an actual imitation, even with a fake accent and all. (I'd personally argue it's more of a copy of Tim himself than Brody, but still.) I don't think it's bad to point that out.

There is I don't know if you guys know dialects, vocal styles and commonalities between vocalists in every style. Over generations things become normalized and people gravitate to those styles(unlike Frampton who sees vocals as something against an artist and NOT THAT DEEP) anyone who SINGS or has any interest in vocals In any way will see commonalities. Brody was a Courtney love clone and Courtney was stealing from Sonic youth and riot girl bands. Tim and Billie Joe just wanna sound like Joe strummer and on and on and on. Very shallow takes clearly the man doesn't give a fuck he just wants to rag on something...cuz he's a gatekeeper or whatever hah
