People were getting sick of that kind of original. If you look at it's animations, they are over-blown compared to those of Rushbird, and they consist of combos. Most if not all originals during the 2000-2009 were like that, and people wanted a change. Then Rushbird came and gave us more solid attacks.
Its strange though. Straybird and its pilots seem to be more of an original than the actual originals in L, hell, it even had better animations, so I'm not sure why they were bumped off as the secondary/rival.
