My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We saw over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

How far does the idling screw turns in on a pulan
I love anything shindawia
There is nothing like the satisfaction one gets by making a machine run again. I had a Poulan Chainsaw up until a decade ago and struggled to keep it running because I did not have this video to draw upon. Thanks for the memories and valuable tutorial. Happy Holidays.
That first sentence says it all! You can see that in that ear to ear smile!
"Let's get this top off and see what she looks like inside." Best quote of the week.
Just parked a Craftsman 3000 giveaway in the driveway and was pleased when a teen stopped, called his dad, and started rolling it down the street to his house. Great to see the young ones still have some gumption and hustle. Thanks for the video.
Back in 90ish, I went jogging found a Craftsman 12hp rider at the top of the hill from home. I threw it in N and rode it down to home. That was soon followed by a 60's snowblower(elsewhere), 70's STihl FS80s for $10, BR600s for free among others. 99% only needed new oil and clean carb. I still have and use, almost all of them..
I scored a Poulan a day after Hurricane Fran hit here. It was the very last chainsaw Lowe's had. I probably could have sold it ten times over for a pretty good profit. We had 18 trees down on our property plus trees blocking the roads in the area. That thing got a workout. It was a good saw. Until I leant it out. Merry Christmas!
I learned long ago, don't loan what you can't afford to lose. And that goes double for family.
A Poulan is the only saw I *would* loan out. LOL
We say in Australia there are two things you don't lend out to others.
1 Your Woman
2 Your Chainsaws

Glad you are feeling better. I just got over it myself. What a drag. I always enjoy trying to fix old stuff. It's fun! Thank you for all your small engine wisdom.
I bought a Poulan 42/18 when I worked at Harbor freight, employee got 20% discount so I ended up paying some where around $170ish for it. I don't have a lot of wood to cut so I couldn't see spending $100s on a Stihl or Echo. For what I use it for it does just fine. The most important part is before you even start your Poulan re gap the plug to 30 thousands and always and I mean ALWAYS run non ethanol and a full synthetic oil, and when your done empty it and run it till it dies. I've done this and have never a a issue with my Poulan. It starts every time and cuts great. I also clean it very well before I put it away. I'm not saying Poulans are fantastic and top of the line machines but they do work well if taken care of
I’ve found that if I use non ethanol 91 octane mixed 50-1 I can leave the fuel in the system without having trouble the following season. I think the mix oil can actually help keep diaphragms supple. But that’s just me.
Do you know by any chance how much does the idling screw turns in on a pulan 42/18?
@mshoen1 I'm not real sure. I haven't had to adjust or do anything to it yet. I've had it now for a little over 3 years and used it quite a bit it still runs great. I do drain it and run it till it dies. I use now only no. Ethanol. I use to use canned fuel but that has changed because my equipment was running like garbage. Sorry I couldn't be of any help to you
@garyalensr that's okay, thank you for getting back to me. Hope you had your family have a blessed day and a very Merry Christmas.
@@mshoen1 Your welcome and same to you and your family. Hope you guys a a wonderful Christmas and an awesome New year 🎊🎊🎊
Nice job with the saw! That will do the job for 90% of homeowners. Merry Christmas to you and Ron!
"She's alive!!" Thunder and lightining rolling overhead as the Poulan gasps and struggles to breathe. Great video and suspence.
Love that you bring an old two stroke back to life. We all throw away way too much stuff.
I would love a plle of scrap like that, one person's trash is another person's treasure. Paradise for me
That's exactly the kind of stuff a small shop can turn into low-cost repairs for customers. Keeps them coming back!!
Orrrr.... make some needed revenue for the business fixing equipment that customers deemed unworthy of repairing due to the cost of repair versus value of the piece.
@@jodydewald19 Reading Comprehension is not strong with you I'm guessing.
@wxfield Happy Holidays to you.
love to watch quality repair work thanks!
Love your excitement when a plan comes together ❤👍👍👍👍
I own three Poulan saws, an Echo and Sthil,. The Poulans were owned by family members no longer with us. They carry the name of the former owner and I run them all at least once a year for small jobs. They work fine. Thanks for the video!
I thought I was the only one that named saws and other equipment after my relatives that have passed away
Glad you are better!!! In time to have a Merry Christmas!!!!!!!
I would want to organize those old units by putting all of the weedeaters together, lined up, maybe organized by brand and size or something. Then all the saws, etc. It would help when trying to find a comparable one to canablize for parts.
We with OCD would like it also😂
There was a German reality TV show about some brothers running a scrap yard and selling used parts. They stored everything in piles and called it "the pile principle". Allegedly they were good at it though, found everything they needed straight away.
Slicing the fuel tubes long ways is a neat trick. Learned something today.
Poulan, named after the starting procedure. You just gotta keep Poulan and Poulan and Poulan.😊
its poo l and......
I don’t know why people have trouble starting them, I work on them and they start on the second or third pull if you follow directions
The diaphragm needs to be replaced often
@@philliphall5198 It's a joke, calm your butt Wrinkles!
Your just a joy to watch .❤
Said it a ton of times you make it look easy. Great job getting this running. Love it to see how excited you get every time am old machine fires up. Thank you for sharing this with us.
lol. It’s only been used once. The chain wench is still factory tied to the handle.😂
I think it's great you're taking discarded abandoned equipment and repurposing them. The machines cost you nothing, and the only expense is parts and your time. Love your channel.
from junk yard to a useful tool, I like em kind of stories
I'm always in favor of keeping the old equipment running!
Stumbled across your channel looking at chainsaw videos. Recently purchased 2 for trail building and maintenance purposes on our property. Your enthusiasm and genuineness is awesome. I love watching your videos
That Grin And laugh is beautiful...
Fixing things like this would be a wonderful class to offer during the summer in Community school.
Glad you're feeling better! You're still the best teacher. Merry Christmas 🎁
Wonderful saws for the money. Not the fastest or most powerful but if you take care of them they last a long time. i am on my second one in thirty years and the only reason for that is a tree fell on the first and smashed the case so i still have it for spares. Perfect homeowner saw.
Found a Husqvarna 340 next to the steel bin at my local transfer station. New carb, plug, and filters and it runs like a champ. Only $30 invested into Humpty the Dump Saw
Great Job Bre! Glad you are feeling better! I Love these kinds of Video's!
Professor Bree, Thanks for a great class today, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your.
Luv the expression on your face when it got started!👍🍻. Merry Christmas! 🍾
Nice to see your feeling better !!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from N.H. !!
I ran a Poulan as a kid with my grandfather! Loved it
Keep savin’ em!!!!!!!!! Wonderful work!
It's a good feeling to save something from the trash heap!
Another great video. I can see the excitement when you get something running. I love to find an old engine and make it run again.
Great job. Thank you 😊
Thanks for all you do! Merry Christmas to you all!
Nicely done! All round win 👌
Some fella hit the jackpot with you my dear!
Bree, my late father would love your show when you repair equipment like that, he would never throw anything like that away, always was a tinkering with something to fix, if he ever found your stash of old machines there, you would have to drag him away, he loved to do stuff like that
Glad you are feeling better! Merry Christmas to you and yours and a blessed New Year to come!
I'd love that stuff wow
I love the fact that you don't trash it all. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas from the Dog House.👍👍🍁
Wishing you and your family a great holiday season Bre, Glad you’re feeling so much better. Really love your channel, your success is well deserved. 2025 will be even better!
Merry Christmas to you, Ron, and all the family from Australia
I am amazed at the complexity of these little carbs. The special tools needed and even the diaphragm to needle height and measurement are just wow. then the different colors of the diaphragms apparently have different applications. It is a wonder any of the $10-$15 cheap CCP carbs work at all.
Happy holidays bre & co 😊
There's no poulan like an old poulan keep them going Bree happy Christmas enjoy the festivities
Hi Bre! Merry Christmas 🎄🌟 for you and your loved ones from Florida! May the Almighty Lord showers you with Love, Peace and Blessings!
Nice work Chic! Merry Christmas!❤
Merry Christmas glad your feeling better.............................................................Fort Worth,Tx
My family and I are hitting up the Stockyards over New Years. I was thinking about staying at Miss Mollys to "Ghosthunt". Any pointers on what to do while there? My boys are 22 and 15.
Thanks!😊
That saw is not trash anymore BUT your the treasure lady! Love your videos!
Great description that I should remember, short sucks, long blows. Yes, the Tool Kit is a must for all power equipment, glad to have one.
I have a lot of old Sears/Craftsman yard equipment and it’s all made by Poulan. Usually when they don’t run it’s because the fuel lines turned to stone. I’m an expert on replacing the fuel lines and rebuilding them. Amazon is your friend for fuel line kits and clone carbs.
I was just thinking I hope you don’t have snakes down there when you said it. Merry Christmas.
Glad you are feeling better. Another junk turned into a treasure. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
You are so incredible.I am thinking about starting a small engine repair shop and I believe you are the inspiration I need..-John
It’s a great side job and I have a small business but I don’t advertise it, just for friends and family stuff keep me covered up at 73
@@philliphall5198 Thanks for the information!!...I am in PA and it is way too cold...No snow yet though..thank goodness..
@ I’m in West Texas and it’s 56 high today
It's amazing what you can put together with a few bits and pieces. I see a lot of gas powered bicycle enthusiasts using chainsaw top end parts to hop up their 2 stroke builds, that may be a possible side-hussle or opportunity for getting rid of used cylinders, heads ect. they have a huge following on social media,Facebook and forums.
I hope your family has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Good video and thank you much. 😊
That little black plastic cam lever on the upper air butterfly cracked and broke on
one of my Poulan saws. So I drilled a hole through the brass pivot shaft and put
a short piece of bare copper ground wire from a piece of Romex through the
drilled hole and soldered it. The end of the wire was bent to match the curve
of the original plastic lever and that improvised lever made from copper wire
has worked fine. It will never crack and fall off like the plastic part that failed.
Had a same issue with a leaking gas cap vent and replaced that gas cap too.
You are highly skilled, your knowledge and abilities' are fantastic !
Merry Christmas to y’all and a Blessed New Year.
nice to see you throw a Poulan some love! like you said they will cut some wood!
I love these types of videos. Before and after...good to go
I want the little scooter/Vespa thing over your shoulder in the opening of this video.
Hehehe
I love watching your videos Glad you feeling better keep up the good work
Saved from the landfill option. Barely used Poulan P3816 gas powered chain saw rebuild procedure. Thanks Bree!
Merry Christmas Bre an family
These are always fun. Unless I'm searching for a specific answer, I enjoy these videos the most because of your excitement. And as a true master and teacher, every step has a lesson or teaching point. I learn more from these videos than when I have a specific issue, because you point out the little things only an expert would know. Then the pop off that causes the sparkle in your eyes. Once the machine starts running, we get see the satisfaction of a job well done.
I am finally catching up as well in my shop. I was 30-40 machines behind since March. Usually I catch up before now. Been a busy year! Time to start fixing some concrete saws I have waiting on me.
I just ordered 2 gx390 for two saws that they let run out of oil and chuck rod
i was able to fix a ferrex (Aldi) lawnmower myself. thanks to channels like yours. it has a 450E briggs and stratton engile. only cost me 35 euro for parts i got on Temu. probably would have cost an additional 40-50 euro had i got someone else to do it.
I do several projects like that in the winter when I’m bored, sell it in the spring, easy money.
Another great video 👍I like the 'trash to treasure' videos as they illustrate a better way to deal with an otherwise hopeless piece of equipment. I study these videos because (not to sound too cheap) repair costs are too high. I learned this 2 years ago when my Husqvarna chainsaw wouldn't start. I took it to a local shop that charged me $85 dollars but in the parking lot it wouldn't start! They worked on it more to make it run but I'm glad I didn't just take it home and put it on a shelf!
Anyway, I now DIY as much as I can to save time, money, and frustration (where have I heard that before? 🤣)
Glad you're feeling better Bre! ❤
Awesome 😊. Merry Christmas
I still use my early 80’s Poulan counter vibe 3400 with the 18” bar a few times a year. It’s a pre chain brake model and a powerful. In 40 plus years I’ve replaced the ignition module (1st year) and the fuel lines ~15 years ago. Starts 2nd pull every time. I’d spend the $$ to fix it if it needed.
I love every single bit of the video! Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us!
Great video, I'm going to keep the self propel parts from the old snapper walk behind to go on the newer one when needed.
Merry Christmas Bree, have a safe and happy holiday.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I enjoy your channel very much.
You looked as excited with that chainsaw as Javier Mile.
*_Javier Melei ~ "Long Live Freedom Damnit!"_*
Great vid as always, Happy Christmas!
Thanks Bree
Hapy Holiday Thank for the video
The OCD in me is going into overdrive over wanting to organize all that equipment 😂 on another note, I do not cut much, but still want a saw available. I have a battery powered Sthl and it works for my needs.
Super genius does it again.
I've watched some of your videos over the last few years when I needed answers. Today I subscribed after I saw your Amen! posted on JH's prayer video about TFE. That's all I'll say about that. May our Father bless you greatly! From a brother in Christ to you.
I love to fix old stuff. Last summer I resurrected craftsman weed whacker that was probably 35 years old. It was given to me by a friend that knows I like to tinker. It needed fuel lines, fuel filter, and and an air filter. I also added one of those speed feed universal heads you like so well. Merry Christmas!
Make some more trash to treasure videos. Love them
That pile would drive my ocd absolutely mad until I sorted it all! 😅
Very nice though. 👍
Very informative and Merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas to you and Ron. Wish you guys the best for new year
Rare to find a part that can save the carb explained. Thanks.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Glad to see you back up and around, definitely worth fixing... Merry Christmas To You And Yours.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family Bre ❤❤.
