    Warning!: yes it is definitely possible to over condition, these are very useful tips but keep in mind this is also a hair product company and obviously they’d want you to use more, however too much conditioner can weigh your curls down, relax them, cause build up, and even cause frizz, just make sure you use the proper amount for your hair/hair type and you should be just fine but I’m warning you curly girls, conditioner overload is not good

    I have that tight spiral 3b-c curl pattern and I do this regimen but with different products. I don't flip my head over when spreading the gel cause I can't distribute the gel evenly, but I scrunch with my hair tilted foward. It works so well omg.

    I bought your first book and loved it. I didn't stick with it because of the no shampoo and my Botticelli curls just laid flat and my hair looked so greasy. Do you go into Botticelli curls more in depth in your 2nd book? I don't live in an area where people get dry hair cuts for curly hair. Everyone cuts it wet so I"m on my own in this. Any tips for cutting and maintaining my hair myself? I cut my own hair already but it's always straightened with a flat iron. Thank your for posting this and all your other videos.

    is it possible that the fact my hair is curly on top and almost entirely straight on the bottom has nothing to do with damage? i mean is it possible to have multiple textures? im 17 and my hair didnt start curling until puberty

    • @QBMJ
      @QBMJ 8 років тому +6

      Do you mean that your hair is curly at the roots but straight when it comes to the ends? Because i used to have the same problem. It is damage, even though it doesn't seem as if. I didn't have split ends, but I used to straighten my hair and blow-dry it a lot. SO the outcome was not that I had split ends, but my hair got thinner in the ends and more straight. I didn't realize that it was damaged, but once i did the 'big chop' to try out another style, i learned how to treat curly hair and my hair wasn't thinned out anymore. As a result, my ends are just as curly as my roots. But you say that you got curls when you came into puberty, so maybe your ends are the 'old ends' of when your hair was straight when you were younger. I would recommend to chop off those straight ends, it is probably the best for your hair :)
      If you need some tips on how to treat your curls you could watch some more videos of Hispanic or in general black people. I am white, but I have reallyyy curly hair for a white person and the tips of black women really helped me and worked for me :) But it all depends on your hair type and how your hair reacts to different treatments:)

    • @palcicaa
      @palcicaa 8 років тому

      +Jil Buchien thanks for the tips, but i meant the top layers of the hair, the part that is visible, is curly, and the hair under that is much straighter
      still though, helpful advice, thanks

    • @QBMJ
      @QBMJ 8 років тому +2

      ohh ok I understand:D Well this also happens to me. My hair is like 3a-3b on top and in the back of my head, but there are certain strands underneath that are wavy. I went to my hairdresser and I told her that this annoys me, so she cutted my straight strands a bit shorter than the rest of my hair. This way it isn't that heavy anymore and curled a bit more, but those straight strands also weren't that visible after she cut it shorter. Maybe that will also work for you:) It is normal that your curls aren't all the same and that you have different kinds of curl types on your head, it happens to almost all girls with naturally curly hair :)

    • @squishytriangles
      @squishytriangles 7 років тому +1

      That is normal! You should check out www.reddit.com/r/curlyhair. Some of the curl descriptions in the sidebar specifically mention having a very curly or very straight underlayer

    • @mchobbit2951
      @mchobbit2951 7 років тому +3

      Curly hair can have multiple textures. I have one section in the back that is almost straight. Even when I cut off all the damage, that did not change. It's not just underneath for me though it's a whole section. Nothing I can do about it but brush out the curls so it matches or use pin curlers to curl it up.

  • @kmadelin
    @kmadelin 8 років тому +27

    I didn't know you could put conditioner on the top of your head. I've been told by my hairdresser and a variety of people to only condition to the ends or not directly on the scalp. they said it might damage ..? or dry out idk. but i was just confused..

    • @aliceprobably
      @aliceprobably 8 років тому +8

      i'm not sure about damaging, but for less dry hair types conditioner at the scalp weighs down too much and it feels greasy. i have finer wavy/curly hair and find i should still keep conditioner to the ends but use a sulfate free shampoo. experiment and see what works for you!

    • @kmadelin
      @kmadelin 8 років тому +4

      I went to this place called Neel Loves Curls and they explained this. To keep the moisture in you do a crap job of washing the conditioner. My hair is pretty dry and frizzy so I was recommended to stay under the shower for 2 seconds then start to dry off. The conditioner helps contain the frizz as well as keep it hydrated.
      One more tip, if you hair is really dry, frizzy and has little shape, condition at least 5 a week with no shampoo. If your hair was like mine (extra dry and frizzy), condition every day and shampoo every three weeks

    Nobody really understands my hair.. i want to regain my curls back but i just can't coz it's something ppl doesn't prefer here and the shampoo i used for years have made my hair wavy. I am told to comb my hair which is a no-no to curly hair. And my gets all bushy and frizzy coz of combing it. Plus the major drawback is it's hard to find a sulphate free shampoo here! I want my curls to be healthy, I've hated it all these years but now i want it back, I finally started loving my hair but things are still aren't going the way i want it. I tried explaining that my hair needs something but it just seems fake for them. 😢 Why not understand my hair?😢😭

    • @loric1909
      @loric1909 8 років тому

      +Temickab b Hi Temickab, I have the same issue. What I do with this is while rinsing I gently rub my scalp to get out any and all residue of the conditioner from the scalp. After drying the hair slightly as shown here but with some moisture still in, use a little of the conditioner on the ends only. You can then use your ACV and aloe for your scalp. I use a mixture of the ACV, water and Tea tree oil and apply to the itchy spots of my scalp with a q-tip. It totally stops the itching for days.I noticed with this method my scalp stays more moisturized so it is less oily and I get much less dandruff than when i use shampoo. I hope you figure out something that works for you!

      I would skip the styling products, but the co-washing will almost certainly improve your (I'm assuming) daughter's hair manageability. When I was little, shampoo over dried my curls and made them tangle. Co-washing is the best for fine hair, IMO, which I still have and which most kids have.

    • @tbsfreak

      Ashley Young I have fine hair and co-washing, or even putting conditioner on hair that has been cleansed with a low-poo, leaves behind a lot of buildup on my scalp on second-day hair.

      Jhanel Dundas - Year old comment BUT you should try Clenditioner on Amazon.com. I only use that after the pool and beach.

      ***** Taren Guy has a UA-cam video called: True Wash & Go Styling for Kinkier Hair Types - Hair Rules. Check it out. This method has done wonders for my tightly curly hair.

      created2worshipGOD Thanks! I think I've seen the video but I will check it out to make sure. I tried Anthony Dickey's method of wash and go's for a month but I got a lot of knots so I stopped.

    • @created2worshipGOD
      @created2worshipGOD 9 років тому

      ***** Knots usually happen when you either haven`t put enough product in (better more than less), not enough slip in the product, time for a trim or you are not taking your time to detangle from tip to root. Trust me, I speak from experience. I had given up on wash and gos also and have researched and revisited it and am loving it now.

      created2worshipGOD The whole finger detangling things just doesn't work well for me and that's the suggested thing to do during a wash and go. Lorraine Massey is against combs and brushes period. I just need to go to a natural hair salon and have someone really educate me cuz no matter how much product I use there is always some knarl or knot or something. I don't want to destroy my curls with heat but at the same time I do cuz then it would be easier. I just need this journey to be easier.

      Search for a curly girl/ wash and go salon one in your area. All the best.

    I have bleached hair and I always felt like I need to comb through my conditioner. Maybe I could try just scrunching the deep conditioner instead, but I'm worried that it won't condition my bleached curls properly.... 😕

    You can very much over-condition curly hair. If I use too much, I'll know because my hair will be weighed down.

      Simply Sookie Lorraine Massey actually corrected herself in December :p. But yes, she did mean conditioner, not moisture. It's very possible to over moisturise hair. It's difficult to over condition,

      I know this is a bit late but doesn’t conditioner make the hair fall out? That’s what’s been happening to mine at least until I stopped conditioning.

    • @ocandro

      Tasnim Ezzddin cowashing (especially exclusive cowashing and especially done with a normal conditioner) very often results in hair loss, normal conditioning shouldn't, just stay away from the scalp

    • @notasmith8521
      @notasmith8521 5 років тому +1

      @@tasnimezzddin6222 I saw another video with Lorraine and she explained that it may seem like you are losing a TON of hair, but because doing the curly girl method doesn't involve brushing, your hair will not shed right away. It will be "stuck" in your hair until you cleanse again (provided you have second day/third day hair). So it's not really a lot of loss, per se, but that it just gets trapped until it's washed again...then you see it come out.
