I bought the cheapest clamp on Ampmeter at Harbor Freight. How accurate is it? Let's find out! $12.

So basically, for low voltage, low amp circuits, the CenTech is sufficient for ballpark accuracy. Excellent video. You just saved me $110. I'll get you a beer on the flipside!

I purchased the Harbor Freight model and I think it's great.

Thanks for running this test and sharing it with us. This cheep meter is perfect for my very limited use, but I was concerned with accuracy. This settles it. Thanks.

A person would never use a clamp on Ammeter for true, instrumentation certified calibration at the tenth and 1/100th amp level. a few tenths off on an inductive pickup ammeter is usually close enough. Durability would be the concern that has me spending more.

You will need to use all three every time and take the average - lol - Like, thanks for taking the time.

These work really what really easily I suggest of anybody buys this to put the batteries in it and open the hoodie or car and try it because the first ones I bought will not work you could try right in the parking lot right on your car

Wow, they're already at 20 bucks for this thing, I thought that was cheap

I bought this meter and it didn't pick up a 1.5v AAA battery. It read zero volt. My other multimeter picked it up. Also, this HF meter will not do decimals when I tested my car battery which was a 12v. This meter read just 12 and my multimeter read 13.53v. That's too much of a discrepancy in my book. Unfortunately, I didn't put this meter to the test until after the 90 days return policy. I'm stuck with a useless device.

You definitely got a bad one. They measure fairly accurately if they are within spec. Not the greatest quality for sure, but it does work well when it works as designed.

Of course it's accurate or right at it because it's built by one of the big name companies in the same factory, just not got their high dollar name on it!

All they’re close enough if you round up to the next number and you got the amp range and you’re good to go don’t have to have exact just go have a close in them or close enough to round it up to 10 A and Collett a day

how do you use it to measure "dc" amps. the manual seemed to point that it only measured AC amps

I like videos that show every little thing and nobody’s prepared I don’t particularly like the videos where the guys do everything in the front end and then they leave out things that were kind of important that you needed to know I’d rather see it done while you’re gone and doing it get something in your head before you share it shoot the video and then you don’t let it go and you miss a lot of other things I see it on other videos all the time

Fast forward to 8:00. This is a 13min long video and 8min waste of time putting batteries in and plugging wires in. You should spend a little time prepping for your videos off camera. No credible conclusion at the end. How do you know which is most accurate? You just guessed? You should have measured the voltage across a sense resistor before the video started.

Good vid, but please nobody check your mains the way he did. NEVER plug your hot in first when you check outlet voltage! Serously, spray paint next to a heater? You are a walking safety violation. You must be a banker(weekend electric warrior). Nice handyman video.

Have not used that old gas furnace for years. Licensed Electrician, 40 years IBEW. In all my years learning electrical safety, I have never come accross your concern. It makes no difference from a safety concern, it's one difference in potential. How would you check a line to line load?

Safety Nazi some people are so hooked up on safety they spend all day getting ready to do one little project it takes me 10 seconds and electricians have not been taught anything that’s that important that’s over the top and you know you have an I know electricians and I know a lot about electricity myself my dad when you were young man he would say use your man hands hold onto that check that to see if that’s alive Archit and we didn’t cry and we didn’t worry about safety we sprayed spray paint with a lighter it never once blew up early the fire some people crack me up and I don’t need to be reminded of safety safety Nazi. Have you gotta worry about safety you shouldn’t be doing this project I wire lots of houses with the power on while I was doing it never once got electrocuted oh maybe once hard to be killed when there’s no ground
