Sulzer 6LDA28 Diesel Sound

British Railways Class 24/25/26/27's were powered by variants of the 6LDA28. Class 24 engines were rated for 1,160hp but the addition of intercooling allowed the horsepower to be increased to 1,250 for the Class 25.

Remember going round depots in the mid seventies with dozens of these lined up all idling away with a distinctive clatter and a thick pawl of fumes hanging heavy in the air.

Walked through one of these while it was still running, we has got a cab ride from Walsall to Derby and there was engineering works just outside the station so we had to go to the opposite cab and hide as there was an inspector controlling the works. Happy days (F@*king loud)
