The sisters need to go on a trip together and leave the mom home. That way, they can start working on rebuilding their relationship with the mom stepping in being messy. I wish nothing but the best for this family.

Maybe so, but they need to get together without the mom interfering. That way, they can start rebuilding their relationships. Maybe start with some therapy stations first and work up to being able to take sister trips together.

Protecting momma is CAUSING THE ISSUE .
Just because it’s your mom don’t mean you have to accept everything . Absolutely not . If her behaviors are ill and it’s hindering you emotionally and physically , tell her about herself and release that . Protecting horrible parents behavior do more damage to you . Carrying that sht then spills into life , your kids etc . “You only get one mom “ yes but you only get one of me . Just because my mom can have more kids don’t give her all rights to disrespect

The mother probably does not know how to love because she didn’t deal with or get help with her traumas. Hurt people hurt others. Mother needs help as much as the daughters. They could benefit from family therapy, as well as individual therapy. An onion has many layers…it will take time and counseling to start healing the wounds. It is a great effort on their part to meet… a giant step.

Wow, at first I was annoyed at karamo for being overly respectful to the mom and maybe wasn’t able to see through her bs, but it was actually super smart that he didn’t go hard in confronting her because he saw how much control she has over her daughters. In general, he seems more sensitive with elders I think out of respect but also because he knows that they think because they’re old, they have the mindset that nobody can talk to them “disrespectfully” and they don’t like to be called out. So he goes in very gently with calling them out and they take it better than being called out directly. All the daughters have a piece of them that is scared of her and scarred by her but they still want to respect and love her because they never received it themselves. It could have easily went wrong where they would be more defensive of the mom when she is the problem. Instead, karamo analyzed the situation, let the mom expose herself and then spoke to the girls without her constantly interjecting and being so condescending. I really do think they were open to listen and I really hope that they heal and find a way to deal with their trauma. He handled a very chaotic situation well.

I have to politely disagree with you. I think the baby sister is trying to keep the family together and has been guilted her entire life and their Mama is the reason. She’s conditioned that girl to believe things that are not true. She’s had to be Miss Perfect and she’s breaking down. Also she has a lot of emotional intelligence and ppl mistake that for narcissistic traits, when they get a small glimpse. These buzz words have got to go.

This story is so familiar in the Black community. This is deep rooted and it has to stop. Where is the father and husbands or spouses? They need and needed to be around to help and are highly accountable too. I see what's wrong here, competition and repeating of toxic cycles. This can not happen in a family, unless its friendly with maturity. An example, pie contest and outsiders judge. For this family they don't need any type of contest. I agree with the sisters, the mother likes drama. Sad and petty. She needs to grow up. She is a seasoned woman. Their mother needs to get a passion and or perhaps her own home. I applaud the ladies for breaking the toxic pattern of abuse. I respect that the mom took care of her kids and all the responsibilities all on her own. Unfortunately, there was abuse. They all need therapy/counseling to heal. They all need hugs. They all love their mom and eachother. Karamo is awesome. You are so calm, an intellectual, influential, kind and honest. Thank you for helping people especially in the African American community. Its very heartfelt. I hope this family heals. May God help and bless them and you all.

My family has a long history of favoring boys. One of older cousins even told me her grandmother who is my 2x great grandmother would buy Christmas presents for her grandsons and not her granddaughters. That same mentality was passed down although not as extreme. There is still some animosity between the sons and daughters among both of my parents and their siblings based on the differences in treatment from their parents. My parents are divorced but when my dad remarried and had my half brother he always did more for him and with him than me. The Lord is working on me to let go on any bitterness. The mother’s form of “discipline” goes far beyond corporal punishment. When you’re locking kids in closets, tying them to doorknobs, and hitting them with sticks, you are an *ABUSER!* Not to mention dismissing your daughter when she told you she had been molested. And people wonder why more young women don’t come forward when they’ve been preyed upon. Even if she did grow up in an abusive home herself, no part of what she was doing to those girls was right, and she should’ve known that. Some people just don’t even deserve to have children. 😔

LaDonna doesn't have to argue with her older sisters about her house and car being better. Why doesn't she stop talking and let Tonya speak? Who cares if you have a house or car!!! They can be taken away in minutes. A tornado, hurricane, flood can come and take all material things away. Material things aren't more important than your family!!! Life is too short to hold grudges. Once we're gone, you can't say the things you should have when they were alive. Don't live your life with regrets. Be nice and loving to your family. They won't be around forever. Treat your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and aquaintances the way you would want to be treated like the Bible says. I pray for this family. They could have so much fun together as sisters. I wouldn't change having my loving siblings for anything.❤ I'm thankful to God that our parents were loving and taught us to love each other.❤

Now we can all agree that the mother is the issue, but the little sister 100% thinks shes better than them. Its time someone says it, at no point in time did she actually say anything about what they succeeded in. Its been she’s jealous, their jealous. Everyone’s jealous. You dont have a car or house. I believe a lot of this pain is being founded upon generational perspective. I truly believe the mom did the best that she could, yet, that generation (especially from the black experience) was never allotted the opportunity or experience to be soft and vulnerable. Unfortunately, they truly believe the are expressing love by keeping bills paid and food on the table. I think the pain the mother is causing is unfortunately unintentional. The true sadness of the situation is that, for the mother, the concept of softness is partially and completely abstract and foreign to her. In our newer generations we, thankfully, have the opportunity to believe and understand that we are deserving of parental intimacy. The “curse” is that we are now able and desiring a softness that those older generations were never able to even dream of.
I pray for deep healing. Acceptance of expectations. A strength to overcome the grief of the love they deserve, and the courage to understand and have patience for the mother. ❤️
As a community, may we continue to try to give the love we never received to the generations after us. We still may not get it perfect, but hopefully we can be a bit better.

Reminds me of my great aunts. One sister was light skinned with a finer grade of hair and my other auntie is dark skinned. My great great grandmother born in 1902 would have my dark complexion auntie cleaning up and doing all the work getting in trouble all the time meanwhile my lighter skinned auntie went to college and had all the men and would get in trouble and somehow slither her way out of everything with my older darker skinned auntie getting in trouble for the lighter one’s actions! She was her “doll baby” and treated her so much better that that mindset and treatment went all the way down through the generations of the grandkids and cousins. God rest my dear gram but she was born post slavery and grew up with that slave mentality about certain things and skin color being one of them. That’s what this reminds me of! Sad! We have got to do better and take accountability and stop denying our wrongdoings and DO BETTER!
In this case I feel the darker skinned sister is being treated more harsh because of this. The youngest was probably viewed as more “prettier” because of ignorant things like her color and hair texture and her pretty looks. Sad. We can’t make differences in how we raise our kids. This is the result.

The oldest daughter said her mother was abusing her even before her youngest sister was born. They are 13 years apart. The oldest felt it was because of how her mother felt about her father which unfortunately happens to some children who look like a dad the mother doesn’t like. The mother also acknowledged they had never had a good relationship. Plus the younger daughters said they were also beaten and abused. Connie was slung by her hair, and she looks to have the same complexion as LaDonna to me.
Different families have different dynamics. My family is black and has a rural patriarchal driven culture and favoritism is based on gender. For us men/boys get better treatment and skin complexion doesn’t mean any better or worse treatment. I say this as someone who is in the middle in our range of complexions. I have female relatives who are much lighter than I am but I never felt treated like less than them. Just my boy cousins.

This show had me in tears because this, to me, seemed to be a classic case of a situation where the mother was in survival mode and resentful that she was doing it alone. A lot of mothers, especially, black mothers have so much pressure to be a provider, etc. that they struggle the juggle of it all. They are angry at the father, for not being there, angry at the world because of the lack of opportunities and unfair treatment, then they misplace their anger in the areas they can control, which is their children. They need healing. They perpetuate the behavior that was experienced, and has been transferred from generation to generation, and taught from how the oppressors treated us during slavery, and that is to instill fear and keep us separated. They pitted us against each other, and this is a condition that we, as a community, need to heal from. Until then the family is going to have a lot of this. I feel for all of them. This is much deeper and bigger than we will ever know!
