Epic is providing a platform to the young to understand various aspects of life and livelihood. It's truly a blessing the muslims in Dallas have organized such a formative environment. I feel there will be many many successful and Nobel people coming out having benefited from this community

For those criticising Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), there are many benefits for our Muslim youth and even adults to train this (health, discipline, humility, self-defence, self- confidence, respect of boundaries from others etc, etc). The three core elements consist of striking, takedowns and submission grappling (e.g. Jiu Jitsu) and can be trained in a halal way without having to compete and even without having to strike people in the face. Especially if you’re focussing on training the takedown and grappling elements. Having trained Jiu Jitsu for a few years in a gym alongside several Muslim brothers, I found the environment to be very positive. Alhamdullilah, alongside praying together, training together also brings the feeling of ummah alive for me!

So I agree with you . But if you are hitting someone in a ring to gain money and “respect” than you forgot the real Islam. I trained taekwondo for many years and unless it is in a heavily padded fight ( helmets , mouth guard etc ) it is haram my friend.

Sparring for fitness and skill elevation is not haram my brother . Your opponent should have tapped out . I see a lot of people not tap cuz they feel like it would be a a “loss” . Tap and don’t get on the ventilator maybe !

I guess no one actually watched the video. The brother says his goal for teaching MMA is to help people become more resilient. He's not trying to recruit for the UFC.
Learning MMA, which only involves sparring not going 100%, is a much more useful skill to learn then playing soccer or (lol) cricket.

Unpopular opinion and this directed at the leadership at the masjid: why are you encouraging young children to compete at who can make their opponent the bloodiest for entertainment?
This isn't a noble sport. It's a blood sport. This is fighting for the sake of fighting.
On top of this, the brother admits to young children that he hid the sport from his parents and then broke the rules and entered his first fight before the legal age.
What am I missing here, EPIC?
MMA is very different than the martial arts we put our kids in that can develop character stamina and fitness. MMA is real fighting and assault for entertainment and possibly gambling.

The martial arts are actually very beneficial for our kids in so many ways. As a teacher in a university, I can always pick out which kids did martial arts. They're calm, respectful, focused; in good shape mentally and physically. Add that to being Muslim subhaana Allah!
And, it looks good on a CV.

    • @onefineday9266

He's not doing that kind of martial arts. His fighting is lethal and bloody. It's for defense sure but those "fighters" do it for fun, entertainment and money.

You fall so easily into the divide and conquer plan of the West. Why not instead, encourage and build each other up, be positive and warm towards our brothers and sisters?

So MMA fighting let’s talk about it. It’s haram. Hitting someone for money and fame is not allowed . I know unpopular opinion but it’s the truth. Martial Arts to protect self and family and fitness is actually good. I think we need to distinguish this.

Fighting is absolutely haram, why do we have like these people teaching the youth? Absolutely a discrage astaghfirullah. It is HARAM to play this SPORT!
Boxing is haram for the following reasons: 1- it involves attacking the face; 2- it is a waste of time; 3- it is a harmful sport; 4- it involves wasting money; 5- it has become an excuse for tribalism and nationalism; and 6- it involves uncovering the 'awrah.
