Me and one of my boys were talking about our Twin Cams and why we can’t get a new Milwaukee 8. Every time I go to Harley the sales person will ask me if they can get me in a new Milwaukee 8, I let them know I’m fine, my 103 is fully built and nothing they have in here coming off the lot can touch mines, and yes I give 131s a run. They can jump on me but I pull them in easily in 2nd gear. There would have to be a built Milwaukee 8. But ultimately I love the durability of my 103, it still has great gas mileage and she definitely grabs attention of a lot of people. I’m in so cal, I’ve road tripped to The Bay Area, Las Vegas and Phoenix, Twin Cam is still beasting for me!
My favorite Twin Cam is the High Output 103. I have one in a 2017 Heritage and with a stage 1 upgrade and proper tuning it runs great and is very reliable. Everyone ride safe
I have a 2014 street glide special with the 103. Last summer I had the whole engine done. Built crank, new cams, high compression pistons, thunderheader 2-1, head work, full dyno, oil pump, and upgraded suspension. Makes 115hp and 115 torque. Bike absolutely rips and sounds great. I ride with a bunch of guys on sport bikes and have definitely hurt some feelings on the twisties. Love the bike and will never sell it. Have put on about 40,000 miles in 4 years.
Spot on assessment of the 103. I had a 15 103 and it was fantastic. No issues. Like a numbskull, I traded it for a 17 CVO SG. The engine/tranny was full of problems. Water pump failure, transmission failure, head gasket on rear cylinder blew out, and finally the oil pump failed on the Tail of the Dragon. After a complete rebuild in Maryville TN I rode the bike home to Texas and sold it. I searched the web and found a 14 RK 103 in New Hampshire with 26 miles on the OD. A lot more bang for the buck then a CVO and tons more enjoyable.
Well….. I had the 1999 Twin Cam train wreck. So I didn’t get another big twin Harley until the M8 was out for several years. No more 1st year production engines for me!!! Love the videos!!!
2000 Fatboy tc88. This thing runs solid with no tick, tap, snap or clack. My other bike, 22 road glide 114 makes more noise than my blender mixing a smoothie.
I bought my first Harley on impulse, which happens to be a 103. I didn't do a lot of research into other models, but my 2015 103 turned out to be a safe bet. Since buying the bike, I've upgraded the stock primary tensioner to a Screamin' Eagle tensioner (manual adjustment, but doesn't need adjusting very often). I don't know how much my crank is running out, but I don't want to know either. Eventually when I get the cam chain tensioner replaced, I might ask my mechanic guy to check the runout just for curiosity. I try not to ride the bike in temperatures over 90 degrees F and I'll wear out before the engine wears out. Yes, an oldie, but a goodie.
I bought a 2013 Breakout new, 103 with stage 2 mods and I love it, still own it. I also have a 2021 Low rider S with dealer installed 131 stage 4 and there is no comparison. That big 131 M8 is a monster. Wish I could ride 2 bikes at once so I could race myself!
I have a 2012 Road King Classic, with the 103. It has 122,000 miles on it, has never been touched, and still runs strong, and doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil. I would get on it and ride it ANYWHERE.
My first was an 88ci. I thought there was something wrong with the engine. Had no power! Then I was told one had to do Stage 1 minimum, air, pipes and rejet. Next was the 96ci. Much better, but still lacking in power to move a bagger right. Next and last so far is my 2014 103ci. What an engine. I love this one. This is the one I went full out on with head work by Dan Vance Racing, Woods 222 cam, V&H pipes, air and a remap. Runs so good. Beats any new HD stock motor for power and torque unless it's a 117ci. And the sound is awesome too! What a bonus. Complete change of suspension and my bike just rips. I made it too good. I just can't let go of it. 103ci is a great starting point to get great power and a bonus, great gas mileage too. As long as I keep it under 80, I can get 48-52 mpg. After 80, it's a huge drop. LOL Thank for the video as always. Great work.
I love HD, hell I am a HD Technician. However, I am convinced that when they end up producing something relatively bulletproof and dependable, they scrap it for something else because solid dependable motors don't bring enough people into the service bay thus cutting into revenue. This is evident with the 103 and the good ol single cam Evo. I acutaly prefer my Evo in my FXR over even a new shiny ST with an M8.
Recently moved from a 02 RK with a carbureted 88 (love that bike) to a 14 UL with the twin cooled 103, it will probably wear off with time but holy crap what a difference so far, I love this 103.
63 year old Canadian, 4 year new rider, learned on 750 Shadow, bought 2016 Street Glide Special American bike. Cosmic Blue caught my eye, beautiful bike. Did stage one, with tuner, dyno showed 87hp and 110 torque runs fantastic. My buddy tried to tell me his '17 Milwaukee 8 is better, I'm happy for him, even more happy for myself for loving Cosmic Blue only found on a 2016 with a 103.
I'm on my 3rd Harley and this one is a 15 Fatboy with a 103 only with pipes,I love it,it's a great motor...I haven't come across it getting too hot yet👍
Damn man how could you let the man in the big power suit take your Harley on behalf of your ex wife?!!! Glad to hear you now have another. My bike is also a Harley 96" (But is now a chopper instead of a rocker C.)
I have a 2012 roadking with fueling 543 reaper cams S&S gear drive, no cat....fueling oil pump. V&H header pipes and a dyno tune power series tuner. Barnett scorpion billet clutch and this 103 drinks......but gets too!
My 2012 Road King Classic has 122,000 miles on it, and still runs strong and doesn't burn or leak a drop of oil. The bike is completely stock, and has never been touched except for routine maintenance and oil changes. I run AMSOIL in it.
103HO here on 17 fxdwg. Just HD stage 1 and it's great. Tons of power and runs super cool. Plus it sounds like a harley unlike the m8. Good call, gixxer.
I have the same, no engine issues at just under 150,000km, I did have the cam chain tensioners replaced at 100k, the outer was fairly worn. Apart from that I love my Wide Glide, sounds and runs fantastic, have done some huge tours around Australia on her, she belts past those road trains with ease😀
I'm still lovin on my 2000 wide glide with 88 inch engine. I've had two factory trained mechanics tell me it has wider, sturdier wheel bearings. Bearings in the engine are sturdier than some later years. The bike has 88,000 miles on it and the engine and trans have never been apart since it was built. The 103 really should make more power but I bet it can't deliver 50 mpg. I started using Amsoil at the 10,000 mile mark. The only mods are a screaming eagle ignition, K&N high flow air filter, screaming eagle kit that prevents oil fumes from being fed into carburetor, and the carb was rejetted one step richer than factory. A word on exhaust. I swapped my exhaust to Vance and Hines longshots and noticed a major reduction in low end torque. I definitely had to use more throttle to get it moving from a dead stop. there was more power above 3500 rpm but I didn't like having to crank the engine to high rpm to get it moving. By doing research I learned the reason was the V&H pipes did not have a crossover. Dyno tests proved the crossover makes more torque at low rpm. Before I put the factory exhaust back on I did some work to them by drilling out as much as I could. That allows them to breathe better. Now even with the factory pipes it sounds pretty healthy and it pulls strong right off idle. I can ease out the clutch and it will pull away respectably with no extra throttle. It has so much torque I seldom need to rev higher than 3,000.
I have a 14 Road King, love the 103. Mine has cams, billet oil pupm and drive, cnc heads, tuner, open exhaust without cat, baker primary, baker trans, baker extended sump etc etc. Ext oil coolet, love jugs etc etc. It hauls for a big heavy bike. I love it.
Another excellent vid. I have two 103's '14 street glide special and '15 heritage. I tell anyone looking to not pass the 103 up, this engine is excellent and I have had zero problems.
Had a 13 RGC with 103” a TMan 555 cam, D&D Billet Cat and mild head porting. Loved it and then totaled it with 85,000 miles. Prior to that I had a 96” SG with D&D Fat Cat. At 85,000 miles put a SE120R in it. Upgraded it with TMan 124” bore, head work, D&D Boarzilla and TMan 662-2 cam. Still have the SG.
A little late to the party but after reading comments I must chime in.04 Road King Classic Stage 1 V+H long shots,Dyna Jet Tuner,Heavy Breather 88 runs hot in the summer so I don't idle around but when the temperature is cool it runs neck and neck off the line with the 103s until the bigger cubes take over.I road my neighbors Soft Tail 110 and can say I appreciate everything about it.The power is there when you want it effortlessly.Ty fixer nice video.
I love the 103 Breakouts, I like those much better than the M8 version. The 103 is great motor if you ask me, Harley got that one right before they went to the M8.
I agree with your assessment. I had 3 103’s. Still have my 2011 RK. Due to emissions standards getting tighter and the number of bikes Harley produces, the motor company had to improvise. The naturally aspirated 88 ran powerful without the limiter however Harley couldn’t sell it like that. The 103 is the closest to best of torque, horsepower and maintenance.
I have an 88 and can confirm it is a beast when you let it breathe properly. Having a good (not stock) suspension also helps get power to the ground. It also has power delivery characteristics I like. As they made them bigger, they became more undersquare which gives you more low end torque but ruins the top end, where I like to live. Where the motor smooths out and purrs like a kitten and you get a rush of acceleration as you rocket past 4500 rpm all the way to the limiter. Turns out stock cams do make power above 5500RPM when the engine can breathe freely. I run my '05 FXDI with a K&N filter and open headers. It is tuned via a FI200R. I haven't had it on a dyno but seat of pants feel reveals it is more powerful and more responsive than a stock 103. It is faster off the line. In fact, it is faster than a 2007 FXDSE screamin' eagle with a 110. All Twin Cam motors rolled out of the factory half choked to death and running super hot due to emissions regulations. I hear no end of complaints about cam chain tensioners, which aren't a problem when you let the engine breathe and run a proper fuel air mixture because the engine and oil don't get anywhere near as hot. Stock config runs so hot, it exceeds the working temp limit of the plastic shoe. May even get hot enough to ruin the temper of the springs, IDK. I think I have 30k on my bike and no issues with cam chain tension so far. I also use synthetic oil which probably helps. I don't baby it either and it basically runs like a new bike.
@@Lurch-BotI took mine to Portland from Wyoming to sell it and got it out of the truck and rode it a little bit and it seemed like it got a new motor with just the increased oxygen in Portland!
My ride is a 2003 Road King Classic, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, with the Screaming Eagle engine upgrade from an 88ci Twin Cam to a 95ci done by Harley Davidson Dealership after the bike was purchased new. No issues other than watchful of cam tensioners. My recent Dyno Tune results are 88+ Horsepower and 99+ Torque.
2012 103 on Elec Glide. 87k miles. Installed Hayden Tensioner, Cycle Elct stator and Darkhorse compensator. Just refreshed the motor with OEM cams, lifters, timken bearings, etc. Mechanic says go ride another 85k. Dealer keeps trying to get me to trade. What willa new 25-30k bike do that mine doesn't do?? And it's paid for. Incidentally, those pressed bearings...Old local parts dealer says he's only known two that separated. And they were caused by excessive and extreme deceleration. But hey, who don't love that decel roar?? 😁
I bought a 2016 heritage softail with 103HO instead of a 2024 with the M8. One reason is a new one was 26k and mine was 11k with 9500 miles on it. Pretty much still new. But the 103 was a great engine and more than enough power for me. I saw no reason to pay 26k for a new one. The 103HO was the final version of the twin cam and they got it right 👍. So I got a great deal on a 16 heritage softail with 103HO and it’s been fantastic You can pretty much idle at 60mph in 6th gear. The 103HO will toque up and go from there easily if you need to accelerate and never downshift
The " automatic chain tensioner " is an " automatic chain tightener ". After a transmission failure I replaced it with a Baker Attitude Adjuster and have had no more issues.
I have the 96" in my 2009 Rocker C, the 103" in my 2014 Dyna Wide Glide and a 107 in my 21 Street Glide I think all 3 are great engines, they all run full stage 1 but i have been thinking about adding cams to my 103.
I have a 2017 Fatboy 103HO, I love the motor. Smooth delivery of power. Only add on was tuned exhaust, she purrs, that’s all I need. I have an 88 EVO and she is raunchy kitten , but dependable as a timex . Good video , I too think the 103 might be Harley’s best motor to date!
I have a 2014 twin cam HD and I love it. Granted, over the years, I've read negative things about it, but then again, I found an HD engine builder in Georgia called "Skunk Works" that specializes in building Harley engines the right way. So when I have enough shekels saved up, I'm sending my engine to them for a major rebuild. I bought my Fat Bob new and have had no problems with it. I live in an area with lots of hills so a little more mid-range power would be nice.
Bought my first Harley a week ago got a 2020 street bob 107 in River rock grey rides amazing and cruises at 70 in 6th gear at 2,300 rpm’s very happy with that motor so far😁
With a Bigsucker Intake, a Bassani 2-1 Roadrage, an S&S 585 Cam kit, a Feuling Oilpump and Camplate kit and a V&H FP3 programmer, my 2012 FXDWG took off like an animal and has been among the most reliable Harleys I ever had. I now have a M8 Ultra Limited and I have done the same pep-up on that…used a Zippers 468,..and I have absolutely no issues 👍🏻 It could very well be a million mile engine as Harley say if you treat it right !
I went from a '99 twin cam 88 to a '14 TC HO my 88 had gear drive S&S 510 cams and a Power commander III. I agree with you as my 103 HO has such a sweet power band and torque output that it just makes the ride seem effortless in comparison. I have a stage one and a complete cat less V&H exhaust with a tuner and that is as far as I am going with it. It has just a small amount of lope in the exhaust at idle and plenty of power for me and mechanical noise is greatly reduced compared to the 88. I really love this motor. I also have a 107 M8 with an aftermarket stage II (Cam, Oil pump, Cam plate, Inner cam BRGS, Lifer cuffs, & push rods) with the same exhaust and a tuner. I really like that motor as well. Thanks for your vid's I really enjoy them.
You can just change the pipes, air filter to some performance ones and then tune it and its gonna perform a little better without having to upgrade to stage 2
I have the last yr of the 103zz the “High Output” in my UL.. just hit 68,000 miles.. just had to replace inner bearings in trans and compensator .. under warranty “Extended warranty”. Cost me a $100 lol.. but love this engine.
I've had quite a few mid 2000's twin cams without many problems. Just some reliability & mild performance upgrades and proper maintenance. Same with the Evo's. I've had and have now.
I've been away I'm riding for 4 years. When I put my 103 electric glide up. All I did to it to put a full gas tank in it. And after putting a new battery in I started the bike up with four-year-old gas. No problems. I also had a Fatboy with an 80 cubic inch that's carbureted. It was the same thing no problem.
I have a 103 Heritage, she breaths much better, in the low 100hp range. Love it ! Looking to buy/build a touring bike (regret selling the FLHTCUSE4, had for 12 years). Not sold yet on the M8's. For the money, I am thinking i can pick up a garage queen 103 or maybe even a 96 in a FLH frame, and get much more out of it for the $$$.... Thanks for the clarity you bring to the table.
My 88 would run on 89 octane on the highway but needed 91 for serious back road adventures. My girl's 103 with screaming eagle pipes and intake runs on 89 all the time and can endure 87 octane on extended highway rides. My stock 107 will only run on 91 or higher octane. On one tank a buck or two more per tank isn't much but when your riding 2 to 4 tanks of gas a day it adds up.
Hi, I do enjoy your videos a lot. In fact, this video and the one about the Harley nobody wanted convinced me on buying a 2012 switchback. It's compllete with bags and everything, unmolested and 12,000 miles on it, but a bit neglected. Still having brake light issues, put a new tire in the rear. and fixing it up. I've ridden it about 250 miles and love the comfort and handling. In the meantime Still riding my sporty, old faithful thank God. So, thanks for your videos and insights.
I am Sportster guy all day long, I love those bikes even though they ain't greatest. That switch back was one of the coolest concepts Harley ever put out. It's like a road king you don't have to muscle up off the side stand.
I regret getting rid of my 2016 street Bob with the 103. I “upgraded” to a 2020 street glide with a 107 M8. I love the way the twin cam sounds. The M8 is to smooth and clean. I hate it. Thinking about getting another 103 bike again.
I bought a 103 Road Glide Ultra new in January 2012. I put Rineharts on it initially, with a lower resistance air filter and a re-map of the fuel injection. About 5 years later I put on a Vance & Hines full header system, Pro Duals. Kept the RIneharts on it. 2 years ago I put a hotter cam in it, which I selected because of the power increases down low at 2500 to 4500 RPM. Amazing awakening of the mid-range power, but I took a hit in the MPG, down from around 38--40 MPG to a typical 32-36 MPG. Turns out, power costs money, I think. Still have mad love for the scoot and ride it solo interstate often.
Got a 2014 Dyna Streetbob FXDBB 103, Stage 1 with V&H Big Radius 2/2 (using a Harley SERT Tuner). I thought the bike ran well until I fitted an FP3 and used one of their 'Canned Maps' - WOW, what a difference, like Night and Day - Totally different Bike, WAY better at everything.
I can only offer up an opinion on the motors I have. 08 Rocker C with Air, Cam and V&H Exhaust - Awesome running 96 inch and the 6 speed trans is really pretty smooth. 04- Springer Softail 88 with Fueling Cam and hydraulic cam tensioner upgrade. Power Commander 5 along with V&H Straight Shots with "Quiet" baffles - Nice and torque laden though the 96 rates ahead. 98 Fatboy 80 Evo - Different experience altogether. Would have to do upgrades now to ride it more frequently as I find the stock Evo with just aftermarket pipes only in the 50's HP wise and not agile enough with the nutjobs out there driving today in ChicagoLand. And Finally - 2016 Thunderbird Storm. 98HP and 115 ft lbs of torque connected to Triumph's 6 speed trans is a great combination of escape velocity on tap and low RPM, high speed cruising.
My 2003 cvo road king has a screamin eagle 103. We did Andrew's cams with screamim eagle plate n pump. The crank ru out on that motor is 2 thou, thank u very much sir....lol. Did some other goodies too like hpi throttle body, injectors, accel ignition wires, re did the heads and valves with beehive springs, 5 angle cut seats, titanium valves, 10 over bore decked heads, Keith black forged hi cone pistons, was 10.8-1... 2 into 1 bassani rr3, and a proper dyno....also fuel pump, hi torque starter....it was a beast of a motor...120tq....was more that enough power
2017. 103.cui. Did the Fueling- Intermediate Cams. Tuner, V&H Shotgun pipes, Arlen Ness, Intake Breather.......Bike Flies, on the Interstate, I'm Happy with My 103,, Reliable an fast.
I have manual compression releases in my tc88 it is a pain mostly if the bike is hot to touch but the ol girl will run with all the modern big engines most the time.
I have a 14 SGS came. From a 96 fatbob with a hot cam my SGS is totally standard as from the factory the low down power delivery is loads better a lot smoother love this motor think this one's a keeper
I've got a 96 inch TC and having heard stories about the primary tensioner, decided to swap it for a Hayden. When I pulled the cover off, everything was perfect, chain tension was spot on at 22000 miles. So my point is, it CAN overtighten, not it WILL overtighten. Same with the crank run out, mine is fine.
heyy I love to hear that! it was huge coincidence that a 2016 was waiting on me at the dealership, cheapest on the lot! Deal! Had enough left over to get the 110 off the rip
I agree. My 103 with a V&H header, and slipons, and a Woods triple deuce cam and FP3 runs so much cooler, the rear cylinder de activation as t come on once. And I’m at also near 114 performance. It does sound more like a Harley than the new M8’s.
15 RK Andrews 57 h cams with stock plate & pump no problems , zippers did the heads cnc street port decked the heads & .30 gaskets. Did it in my garage & left the stock pistons in. dyno at 108 hp 116 TQ very cheap & reliable runner. It ran very good with stock cam & dyno jet box tune I just wanted more M8 don’t get out of there own way until you cam it
Great topic, I have a 12 FLHTK with a 103. To me the 103 is a workhorse. I liken it to the Chevy 350, it just keep running. I love my 103, but I may upgrade to a GoldWing.
been watching this master like 2yrs now? #gixXer you knoW your craft..i learned a lot from yoU..true master hope to meet ya some time..if not cool also..but thx.4 all yoUr time spent on all your videos..shout out from Philadelphia..
I've owned Harley's since '97 starting with a '97 1200 Custom then my first Big Twin was a '00 TC88 and I proceeded to own every engine config up to a '17 M8 107 Road King. It was a nice, very smooth ride, but eventually, I sold it and bought a '16 Slim with the HO 103. I am very happy with her.
i met a guy on the road the other day that said his twin cam was the reason he gave up on H-Ds and got a goldwing.....yup, it was crank problems, after bringing up the power over stock .... he had a lot of money into gear driven cams, performance pistons, and chrome for it....just flipped with all that work ending in crank problems i guess...... i feel lucky to have solid mount everything, and a trusty old was sit sumped sportster crank....i invented my way out of sit sump for good, and no more oil leaks now either..
The problem is not the twin cam, its the gear driven cams that give it problems. Gear is meant for racing and it will put a lot of stress on components in the crank. If you stay chain driven with a good tune and maintenance im sure the twin cam will last forever
@@Cheaps928 i am sorry....i forgot to mention the guy had put a lot of twin-cam performance money into it ....and That's Why, he spun the crank....if you leave them stock, you probably wont have any problems......but there is nothing wrong with gear driven cams, as long as they are well matched......and there is nothing wrong with chain driven cams either, but that requires tension-er and chain maintenance..
@@Cheaps928 in fact....i think the best twin cam advice IS leaving them stock, and doing the scheduled maintenance... just don't try to get more power out of them, unless you plan on pulling the whole thing down and reinforcing a well trued crank...
in 2011 my road king came with the auto compression harness all I had to do was have the automatic compression release installed in the heads. and they are activated when you turn the ignition on. Not when you hit the starter switch.
What is your favorite Twin Cam motor?
My 2002 88 TC.
I have a 2015 Heritage Classic. Love it!
117 big twin baybe!!!
My 14 103" with lots of extras
2014 Streetglide 103 High Output
@Leon Wilcox whats porting the heads? You mean replace the heads and pistons?
I too have a 2017 heritage with the ho103. I put on pipes and an air cleaner plus a tune. It runs smooth and powerful
2014 Fatbob 103 and is by far the best Harley I have ever owned or ridden. Love it
I have a 2002 Twincam Dyna, with the hot forged crank/Timken.
Has a stage IV, 107hp and 167nm. Love it.
Was a rider experience difference, had zero to do with your bike 😂
this happened
I made my 96cc to a high compression 103cc big difference about 106 torque and 98hp I’m happy 😎
i've ridden the 1200 sporty, a 96cid softail custom, and now i'm on a 103, and it is a beast.
That's what I like to hear! That late 103 was when they got the Twin Cam right, then we got Milwaukee 8 abortion.
Hope my 2011 103 last this long. Just hit 11k miles.
@@GixxerFoo I have always ran AMSOIL in all three holes. It has ran smoother, cooler and quieter, since I started running AMSOIL instead of SYN3
@@Since_84 I have always ran AMSOIL in all three holes. I think that has made a big difference.
I use Castrol Power 1 V-Twin in transmission, Amsoil in engine, and primary.
Great work.
The 2014-2016 103 Twin cams are very good motors. Harley got it right during the Rushmore years, then scrapped the motor for the M8 in 2017.
What about a 2017 103 vs any before 2014? Would the 2017 still be better ?
Blame the Obama EPA for the M8
I have the 2015 ultra limited, 103. I upgraded from the 88. I'll keep this forever.
I’ve had two 96es. Loved them both. Only lost the first in a divorce, as soon as I could I bought another.
Damn man how could you let the man in the big power suit take your Harley on behalf of your ex wife?!!! Glad to hear you now have another. My bike is also a Harley 96" (But is now a chopper instead of a rocker C.)
I have a 2012 Roadking with 103, it has 52,000 miles and still runs like a top.
I'm just looking at buying the same bike as yours, any other positive things you can say about it? Have you done any work to it? Cheers, CJ
Had a 02 softail heritage now have 2014 ultra limited 103 best bike ever
I love it.
My 2012 dyna fat bob has a 103 and I love it
Another excellent vid.
I wasn't a fan of the twin-cam until I bought one in 2014[ 012 RK]. I have zero complaints.
I am hoping after 6 years they got the M8 right. I went from a 2016 - 103 to a 2022 - 114. Loved my 103 with 36000 miles.
I have 150,000 miles on my twin cam and still love it
Damn. Amzoil?
@@Since_84 Redline every 5,000 miles but just switched to AMSOIL because of cost. The bike is now just under 163,000
In seven miles I will have 100,000 miles from brand new!
I have not done anything except for pipes, air cleaner, and V&H tuner.
@@slowcountryboy476 You better replace your cam chain tensioners ASAP if you haven't already
@@kerrylewis2581 was think8ng of that on my immaculate 2002 FLSTF .
But at 11000 miles I am told I am.wasting my time.
This is hands down and up and down and up/down etc. one of the better juicy rationalization videos for buying an olde Harley.
my 103 breakout with exaust intake and cams is an absolute dream. Torque monster, smooth, and sounds absolutely amazing
I love the 103 Breakouts, I like those much better than the M8 version. The 103 is great motor if you ask me, Harley got that one right before they went to the M8.
103,decatted stock head pipe, Supertrapp Nightstick, Thundermax,S&S Stealth air filter, runs great. D W
Love my '12 FLHTC....
103 TC ! great Running motor.
So I got a great deal on a 16 heritage softail with 103HO and it’s been fantastic
You can pretty much idle at 60mph in 6th gear. The 103HO will toque up and go from there easily if you need to accelerate and never downshift
The " automatic chain tensioner " is an " automatic chain tightener ". After a transmission failure I replaced it with a Baker Attitude Adjuster and have had no more issues.
I have the 96" in my 2009 Rocker C, the 103" in my 2014 Dyna Wide Glide and a 107 in my 21 Street Glide
I think all 3 are great engines, they all run full stage 1 but i have been thinking about adding cams to my 103.
I have a 2014 SGS. I don't know much about what you said but the 103 sounds good to me. I'll keep it.
Dude Kevin and that Skunkworks crew are so damn good to learn from.🤘It’s totally appealing considering sending the engine to them to work their magic.
Bought my first Harley a week ago got a 2020 street bob 107 in River rock grey rides amazing and cruises at 70 in 6th gear at 2,300 rpm’s very happy with that motor so far😁
I have a 103 and the 110 twin cam. The 103 is in my 2016 Road Glide and is my favorite.
Just got my first tc 103 blackline fxs. I love it. That bike brought me here. Great video
agree with you.. I liked my 103 so much I bought two
I've had my 2012 103 dyna for 5 years, no complaints. Great gas mileage 48-52 normally. 57 mpg on a few ocassions.
Wow,, I’ve never checked my mileage.
But I own my 2 for performance and durability, not econobility.
Dodge the vehicles!
Watching this presentation cemented my decision to purchase my new to me 2013 Road King. Thanks for this! ✌
I love the 103 in my 2014 Street Bob and my 2011 tri glide, both are stock and I plan to keep them that way.
You can just change the pipes, air filter to some performance ones and then tune it and its gonna perform a little better without having to upgrade to stage 2
The problems begin after stage 1 when people install high lift cams. if its torque cams there should be no problems, but high lift, yes.
I have a 14 RK 103 HO ..with a fp3 and it still has the cat in it but straight fishtail exhausts..and I love everything about it..
My neighbor has the 103 in his street Glide he never had any issues with his motor! Ran very well!
05 DYNA 88ci to 97ci stage 4, gear drive Andrews 37s, 10.2:1 CR. Great fun to ride!
That sounds like a blast to ride, hopped up dyna are a lot of fun!
Had a 2016 RK with the 103 HO. Great bike! Should have kept it!
Very nice! The HO is awesome, they did a good job on that cam!
Twincam r good to make power easy I run a 03 88 built pretty hot 118 hp. Stock 117 dont have a chance
I have 2 96cu in an FLH and one in a Softail.
Basically the same engine and so far very reliable with enough power to do what i need with it.
Hahahaha, they had the evo perfect in 98, thanks for video, had shovels, evo’s, twin cam, now m8 love all them motors
They did and they did the same think by going to the Twin Cam!
I got a switchback with the 103 love it
I can only offer up an opinion on the motors I have.
Have a dyna 2014 103,love that bike.
I love my 2015 street glide. The 103 is a really solid motor. Lots of torque. Great sound.
The 2017 HO 103 is my favorite
How do you know when its a high output? And what exactly is that? I never heard of it till now

Great topic, I have a 12 FLHTK with a 103. To me the 103 is a workhorse. I liken it to the Chevy 350, it just keep running. I love my 103, but I may upgrade to a GoldWing.

And that’s why I have one! 🙂
Same
i met a guy on the road the other day that said his twin cam was the reason he gave up on H-Ds and got a goldwing.....yup, it was crank problems, after bringing up the power over stock .... he had a lot of money into gear driven cams, performance pistons, and chrome for it....just flipped with all that work ending in crank problems i guess......
i feel lucky to have solid mount everything, and a trusty old was sit sumped sportster crank....i invented my way out of sit sump for good, and no more oil leaks now either..
