- Janet Jackson's former musical director, and the songwriter/producer responsible for hits such as Troop's Spread My Wings and his own Turned Away, chats on Video Soul about his dual career behind-the-scenes in the studio and as a solo recording artist.
he's so humble
YES!!!! And still so talented. Some of these "stars" today could learn a lot from him and what humility means.
Chuck’s haircut 💈 is fresh
Chuckii thanks 🙏🏾 for “Spread My Wings” performed by TROOP
Chuckii had tremendous talent. His first album was off the hook!!.
His song "Turned Away" is absolutely one of my top 10 of the 80s. Love this dude. And he did great with Janet Jackson on her history setting Rhythm Nation World Tour...STILL the biggest debut tour by any artist in music history with over 2 million in attendance over the course of 9 months.
Wow. I didn't know that. ❤🔥
Turned away sounds almost like spread my wing.
I liked the greeting these two brothas did. God bless them.
Nice Classic interview! Chuckii seems very humble! He's very handsome and Underrated!
He's one of my favorite producers. I put him on the same level as Prince, Jam and Lewis, LA & Face, Bernadette Cooper... and probably quite a few others I can't think of right now!
Chuckii is the man! HE IS MOST DEFINITELY BRILLIANT BEYOND HIS YEARS!
the greatest days ever. when cat's carried them selfs like real artist and gave great interviews. this is when B.E.T. was real today it has turned in a fucking joke.
I always wondered why he seemed to disappear after his initial success. Then I read up on him and found out he really was more interested in producing and being behind the scenes. The thing is, he was the total package: incredible singer, jaw-dropping dancer, and gorgeous. But to find out he didn't want to be a "superstar" was actually pretty cool. Now I love him even more!
The talent is backstage, behind the scenes. The freaks are on stage, all in front of the camera.
@@Ricobaca ...... the freaks are on the stage....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Them Jordan's was sweeter back then than they are now
I use to watch Video Soul and Video Vibrations on BET all the time.Have plenty of VHS tapes of both shows in mint condition. Can’t believe this was over 30 years ago. Where did the time go?
Man, I was listening to a couple of cuts from Chuckii's first album the other day in the car, and I must say the brother's music, his style was fresh. I even listened to a couple of songs he had produced for Troop called, "Spread My Wings", and "All I Do Is Think Of You. He was ahead of his time.
What?! I thought Gerald Levert produced Troop's album?
Chuckii is talented gifted Legend
Chuckii is awesome! Very talented, adorable, humble, and handsome man.
That when records were the truth. I miss him!! Chuckii need to come back with some music.
Retro Jordan 5s on his feet.
LOVE... LOVE... LOVE.... We need some new music from YOU, CHUCKii
Donnie had hat hair! lol Loved Chuckii back in the day.
Why he is not mentioned along with Jam &Lewis, LA &Babyface, Teddy Riley is beyond me. He truly defines the word “Unsung” on so many levels. I recently heard an interview where he was called the “Rodney Dangerfield of R&B” pretty much sums up that the industry will not put everybody on, only the ones they feel deemed to fit their “agenda”
Yeah it’s a shame he’s rarely listed as one of the top producers/songwriters of that era unless someone is really in the know about music from that time. This guy had a definite signature sound. Not only are his solo records dope but he did great stuff with Troop, Gerald Albright, and others. Very underrated. Not to mention “Games” was the inspiration for “Return of the Mack”!
He doesn't have those type of catalogues.... let's not get ahead of ourselves
@@OmarHudson I’m speaking mainly of talent . Catalogue is all based on marketing and promotion & artistry.
@@howarddavid31 oh ok. I can agree there
@@OmarHudsonReturn of the Mack is one of the most timeless songs ever made. The Alpha generation knows the vibe and this man created it over 30 years ago
Oh my God he's so adorable! Why would anybody play games on him?
Listening to this interview in 2024 and everything he said in 1990 is exactly what he said 34 years later
Back when BET was worth tuning in to. Geez, where did we go wrong?
when they sold the company
I know the answer...its not black owned for one. So...yeah.
I was and still a fan, a buying customer, CB is a great talent.

Chuckie sounds alot like Bryson Tiller of today who said he preferred being behind the scenes as a producer more so than out front as an artist. 2 insanely incredible writers....

Can someone tell me the name of the song that always played at the closing credits on video soul. It when like this: when ever you..... feel pain.... the sun in your life... turns to rain..
You mean Midnight Love?
Smart. Cause usually artist do all tha wirk and don't have tha money to show cause it goes to tha ppl behind tha scenes. So I bet you he seen something olong those lines to make him want to produce more that proform
Wheres the volume
He reminds me of luke James
Is there a part 2???
Love them Dimples.

I Wonder If "Turned Away" Was Really A Song About His Solo Career
