Seems like Olivia Rodrigo is still in her punk rock phase. All American B*tch may be one of her most savage songs to date. Her vocals are really hitting where it needs to hit.
this song is the pinnacle of representation of the girlhood experience. especially in the beginning (2:09) when she's winding up then quickly goes back to the soft falsetto, like how us as women aren't really respected if we show our anger. and then the conclusion of the song does the same. its just such a great song qoeiuroierbf
honestly i love olivias melodies and stuff like that but my favorite thing about her music is how clever the concepts are. like you start a song expecting something, you kinda get it but then it takes you somewhere else. it’s so cool, there’s always something more to the song than just face value. like the concept of this song is just genius in my opinion 😭 the same goes for songs like drivers license and deja vu like??? just brilliant.

This doesn’t remind me of that Kim don’t do Olivia like that LOL (sorry maybe because I hadn’t heard of her prior to the clip you played) but it does remind me of the movie “American Beauty” (the one with Mena Suvari where Kevin Spacey plays the creepy Dad lol go figure).
The angelic soft parts also gave me image of the uniquely American breed of purity culture (think cheerleaders/American Pie/the girl from Teenage Dirtbag MV).
The “all the time, I’m grateful all the time” reminded me of the females in fundamentalist Christian communities and polygamist cults who are brought up to always “keep sweet”remaining pure, demure, perfectly feminine and never outspoken/having opinions.
