- Come for a ride with us as we test out the new Surron Ultra Bee! We have 3 Ultras on this ride, one with stock wheels and our favorite Pastrana bend handlebars and the other 2 have 18/21 wheels on them. Gold Member is along for some range comparisons to a fully modified LBX. We talk about our first reactions on this phenomenal new bike and do some comparisons to other bikes we've ridden. We also find out if the Ultra Bee can get to the top of a hill that only the KTM Freeride has conquered. This bike has proven to be an incredible ride for the price and impressed us in many ways! I just want to say I really appreciate you getting me my bike and 18/21 wheel set out before you went out. I have gotten it all setup and am taking it camping this weekend too with my motorcycle club. They are all ICE riders, and made fun of my Light bee last year. I don’t think they will be laughing tomorrow when I show up with my ultra bee. Thanks again!

Regen is adjustable for both motor braking and you can adjust how much regen is during braking. Lots of adjustability. Great footage!
We all studied the bike manual AFTER this ride knowing we needed to tune in some different settings, the Ultra Bee has incredible amounts of adjustability in the electronics, very cool!
I would love to see a charge controller showing the amount of regeneration actually happening from the rear wheel of a dirt bike.
The batteries are so slow to take in the charge, this is more like a sales gimmick than anything else.
Do these bikes come with the 240 V gasoline generator required to charge them same day?
@@Dat_Sun 240v is not required and isn’t what anyone uses…. 210 for industrial stuff but typically we have 110. 110 charges in about 3 hours from 10% to 100% regen isn’t a sales gimmick, we see it with real world results, riding with no regen nets 15-20% less range while riding in areas with lots of elevation change. My last bac 4000 controller had a APT display and would show how many watts would be out back k to controller which would be around 4300-4500 depending on how much regen was being used.
@@surronsd "110" we call it 120 can support 2hp at maximum. Something is not adding up here..
Anything less than *220 is going to charge as fast as a toaster. 220 is at minimum 2 toasters. Clams of high hp and tq from 2hp charging over 2 or 3 hours? Impossible. If this power wheel is going from 10% - 100% in just a few hours it's weak. The total amount of power available is very low compared to even a 100 CC dirt bikes power density on one tank of fuel.
I do not believe your claims of 4000 watts regeneration. Maybe peak for a second from top speed with high traction. 4000 watts would quickly overwhelm the tiny battery packs charge "C" rates. Regen is worthless in this fashion, just another gimmick to sell.
I have some li-xx electric lawn equipment, charging draws around 1300 W from my 120 V circuit, It takes a few hours to charge. Which means my walk behind lawnmower has a comparable power density to this power wheel. My electric lawn mower works great and it has many advantages over a gasoline counterpart. But it also has a lot of disadvantages, just like these power wheel bikes.

Just north of Little Sahara Sand Dunes, one of our favorite spots. One of these days when we are not working we'll organize a ride out here, difficult to find these trails without a guide.

Great video. I've owned a Ultra Bee since February. After suffering the typical poor traction on the rear wheel but not having the cash to get new wheels, I found an acceptable solution for much less money. I bought a Motoz Terrapactor 90/100-19" tire. It makes a huge difference on steep climbs and looser surfaces. Where I spin out before, it just grips. About $85 installed.
The handling and geometry feels about the same which is good. 90/100-19" isn't a huge difference from the stock tire. If I could find a 70/100-19" front Motoz Terrapactor, I'd probably get it. However, most of the traction problems seem solved and the added front weight of the Motoz might not be such a good thing.
Interesting, that's a brand we've never tried, I'm guessing that is a front tire in that size, but probably works fine in the rear. Thanks we'll get our hands on one and add it to our weight charts.
@@ChargedCycleWorks 90/100-19 is an unusual size. I can’t even find it for sale online. I think I was lucky to find it available in stock in Mongolia. It may be hard to find for you. Dunno.
Now I’m trying to find a suitable front tire that’s a big improvement on the stock CST. Dunlop Geomax MX33 looks like a decent choice in 70/100-19” but looks like I’ll have to import it.
@@martinfoster5163If I were to keep the stock wheels I would try to mount a 100/90-19 on the rear. More tire choices with the 100 width but it’s starting to get up there for the amount of tire you should run on a 1.6” rim. The third day I had my ultra I swapped in a much better tube in the rear and drilled the rim for a rim lock. It definitely should have came with a rim lock from factory!
I am 5 foot 11 and 240 pounds would the Ultra Bee take me up that hill? What is your height and weight and what was your battery charge when you climbed the hill?
Do you have any guess on how the stock range on the Ultra Bee compares to the stock range on the Freeride E-XC with the 3,8KW (?) battery pack? Does the weird 300V system of the KTM make a difference there? - Great video, thanks!
The Ultra Bee has incredible range, far more than the KTM Freeride from our experience. We've done many 20-30 mile rides so far on the Ultra and if you can behave and slow down you can get 40+. The KTM Freeride was almost impossible to get more than 25 miles out of. The KTM Freeride still has one of the best power deliveries we've ever ridden, so yes the system and tune of the KTM is incredible and we don't expect a better power delivery until we ride the Stark Varg. That's not saying the Ultra Bee is bad, it's very friendly, and super adjustable, but the KTM Freeride is special in it's power.

Think I’ll stick with my mod lite bee as it’s easy to throw around. If I was going for a big bike I’d get a different brand I think. Nothing against Surron, I love my one, but this bike didn’t seem amazing. Just my two cents. Thanks for the vid
If you love ultra light and playful, 100% keep your Light Bee and continue modifying it. The Ultra absolutely feels like a big bike, it's not the same. However for those wanting bigger it's an incredible value and very well built, the build quality and details show that Surron has been doing this for years and the leader in this market. This is probably the best trail bike on the market and better than many name brand gas bikes for the trails.
will or did you test a new controller i think 1-2 are should already be available and power to push 15kw permanently (peak think 17kw) think the few kw would suit the bike
and first test already with peak 27kw :O (new battery + controller)
Stay tuned for our next video you'll see us riding the Ultra Bee against 450's on a very muddy/rut filled MX track running an EBMX X-9000 set to 16kw and a KTM fork on the front with Dunlop MX34 18/21 tires. It's such a sick setup!
What about traction control? Is it any good? Someone is working on fixing it for 18/21 I heard.
For our style of riding, no, but I'm sure some people have found uses for it. Maybe going up the side of a slippery hill? Warp9 should have rings to make it compatible with 18/21 when they launch their wheels.
Hi, would be great if you test a 16/19 wheel setup for smaller riders and alternatives tires for the stock rims.
All the advice (and videos) we've given out the last 3 years on the Light Bee for 19/19 and 16/19 tires applies to the Ultra Bee, the sad fact is there just are not good rear tires available for 19" rear unless you go up to 100/90-19 rear tires which is a common size used for 250f motocross bikes. BUT in order to do this you must use a 21" in the front, the bike is dangerous to ride without a 21" in front with a massive 100/90-19 in rear. This leaves us with the same 70/100-19 tires used on Light Bee and it's just not a good option for a larger, heavier, and faster bike like the Ultra. A 16' rear would be awesome for a smaller rider just like it is with the Light Bee, but for most riders a 21" up front is probably the better choice as this is a large bike and full sized wheels feel great on it. Perhaps we can refresh some of those videos and incorporate the Ultra Bee into them, thanks for the suggestion.

@@ChargedCycleWorks I think I found a good compromise: a Motoz Terrapactor 90/100-19". It's not a huge difference in size vs stock. It added a ton of traction on mixed terrains on my first ride with it yesterday. I didn't notice any weird ergonomic changes. Felt about the same except huge amounts of traction which I didn't have before.
I ride my Surron's (Storm Bee and Ultra Bee) exclusively on steep mountains. Not trail riding, just cross country. Up rocky grasslands or coniferous forests with no underbrush.
yall doing any upgrades for the storm bee? have yet to see any so far. already have the bike. it rips.
At the moment just bars, grips, tires, etc. What would you want to upgrade on yours?
@@ChargedCycleWorks I think by mid/end summer I’ll want to upgrade the battery/controller. Would be cool if it could push some more top end power. The torque is really nice. Prob forks for track but still need to mess with tuning them. Also just general info like removing the kickstand and ensuring the kill switch from the kickstand down is properly turned off. Also customizable decal kits for the number plate and sides would be really sick. I’m sure people will want stunt friendly seat replacement. I think I’ll ride this until I can get a stark varg and then convert it to a super moto once I do.
I'm really wanting to get an electric dirt bike. But currently don't have a way to haul it.
Do you think I'd have batter life for a 10-15 mile drive across city streets, then some off road, then home with the ultra bee?
Highest speed is a 45mph for maybe 4 miles. Then I could keep it pretty easy around 25-30.
The max range is about 45 miles unless you ride really slow. that's a tough call you'd definitely be pushing the range limit. We just got a battery upgrade to test, unsure what the range will be at the moment with this battery, significantly greater range. We'll try to get a video out soon about it.
if you have any car with a hitch they make little bike mounts that you can put it on behind your car.
Are any of the Light Bee go to controller manufacturers gonna step up and do an Ultra upgraded controller for more power and more tuning? Is EXT doing Ultra shock and fork upgrades? I think I read somewhere that EXT is gonna do a Light Bee fork, and if so I guess an EXT fork for the Ultra Bee seems natural?

The Ultra Bee with the Gold bars is 100% stock. The other two have 18/21 wheels on them.

For a 6'2 guy, what would you consider? Ultra, Talaria and what else? Or maybe not even the Talaria?

If you are using it as a track bike then 19/21 is certainly the best choice. Most however go with 18/21 to give more tire cushion between rocks and rim for extra traction and flat protection off-road. But yes you are absolutely correct. Cool powerwheels, seem low powered though.
For a stock $6500 bike they have excellent power that is smooth and controllable and easy to ride which is important for most riders, the aftermarket will make them as fast as you want. :)
I have a 2021 Husky TE250 two stroke and just got the Ultra. The Ultra in sport mode with the highest torque setting is definitely faster than the 250 2 stroke up to 40mph. Although the Ultra is less HP, it has more torque and is instant so it accelerates quite a bit faster until the HP advantage of the Husky takes over at higher speeds.
@@lock6686 No it is not. There is no comparison between the sustained 40+hp of an xc to the 8hp power wheel.
If anyone is up for it I am willing to travel to prove it. I actually live in dirt bike heaven Grand County Colorado if anyone wants to come ride here until the batteries die.
An electric bike would make you bear food up here. Remember you need 750 watts plus whatever efficiency losses there are for just one horse power. Right from the start this proves the manufacture a liar, they advertise in the same way that Walmart amplifiers advertised 10,000 watts or some nonsense.

I literally ride both back to back and the Ultra does accelerate quicker. There's literally no debate, and you just saying "It doesn't" doesn't make it true unless you own both.

It's about time you upgrade the prehistoric 21 to one of the electronic power valve controlled TBI models (23 or newer). You're trying to say how your electric bike is fast but you're rolling around on something almost as old as my Datsun in the dirtbike world. 21 thats tbi right? The horrific solution to EPA requirements aka TE=government regulations bike.
Everything about these made in China electric bikes is embarrassing and requires handing in your man card and purchasing a gasoline-powered 240 V generator if you would like to charge in the same week, I guess you could keep the extension cord in your purse that comes with every electric vechicle purchase by law.
Please don't bring up instant torque again, reveals your ignorance of the subject. You know what else has instant torque? A running gasoline internal combustion engine, especially when it's spinning at 5000 rpm waiting to dump the clutch =instant powerwheel crushing tq and hp that increases with RPM unlike the powerwheel.
This is really a waste of both of our time because we will never see a direct comparison between electric and xc /or other high performance dirtbikes, just online propaganda. You are one of an endless army of electric vehicle propaganda regurgitators.
Reality science and facts don't matter to you because "electric has instant torque and Tesla says they're so fast".
As soon as I see riders trading in there 450s and beating other 450s with a power wheel I'll get on board. Nut until that time, I say you and others repeating the same propaganda are liars, and I back it with my offer to race anyone with an electric motorcycle in Colorado or surrounding states.
I don't think I'd bother riding one without 18/21's. 40 years on Dirtbikes, pretty sure id be not happy, trying to ride a stinkbug on Skinny Minnie's.

We LOVE our KTM300's, still no replacement for that type of performance....YET. However if you ever get a chance to ride a modified Surron do it, you'll be blown away how much fun they are. It's a different experience.
@@ChargedCycleWorks I think the Varg should match or exceed. My concern as an offroad guy is run time on the Stark. Will be doing a demo ride soon as dealer gets his demo bike.
