- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- In this narrowboat vlog, I stumble upon an impressive sized canal inhabitant. Time is spent preparing my dog for some post Lockdown adventures that we hope to have. I also find some beautiful signs of spring close to my boat and check on a swan in need. There is some essential service cruising followed by my nature journal and poetry. All put together in the hope that you enjoy it and find it relaxing. Take care x
That duck was gorgeous. Thanks!
I'll have to go back and watch this vlog as I'm not sure which duck it was that you mean, but I am glad that it looked gorgeous as I am a big fan of the ducks. 🦆 Thank you for watching, have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Having a binge viewing to see what you’ve been doing with your bright and glorious filming whilst my tea is brewing and I am chewing 😊❤
I might have to borrow that poem! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat 😂 feel free ❤️
Enjoying finding and watching your older videos, what great adventures you have been on. Thank you so much for making room for us to join you.
There have been lots of adventures. I am so pleased that you're enjoying watching them. Thank you so much. Take care🌻🦋
Thank you for enduring the nappy smell of the swan mussel just so we can see it. How gorgeous are the ducks, I especially like the mandarin ones. They often appeared on old Chinese scrolls portraying imperial gardens.
Mandarin ducks are stunning aren’t they? Thank you so much for watching. Have a super week. Take care 🦋🌻
Love your art and poetry
Drawing in a journal and writing a poem is such a relaxing thing to do and I really recommend trying it if you are not already doing it. Thank you for kind comments today.🦋🌻
Love all the bird info, and the weather vanes. Thank you for sharing your curiosity and your knowledge!
That is so kind of you, Ann! Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the week. Take care 🌻🦋
How funny your story of the Swan mussels... a lot going on around the canals in the Spring. Always good to see. Zephyr does try to do all she can to be a good dog.
I can still remember the smell of that swan mussel now! 🤭 Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🌻🦋
What a beautiful duck for sure.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Take care 🦋🌻
Good Morning Vanessa - greetings from Poland
Super video. What a lot in this one to look at. I loved the ducks, especially the beautiful Mandarin and Shovler Ducks. How kind and thoughtful of you to feed the swans and ducks with their special food. I hope the swan with angel wing is OK.
I have no idea how to get Zephyr into the rowing boat. She likes being in the boat on land but not on the water. I guess it's the movement that disturbs her. Lovely cruise. Thank you
Hi Michael, I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far. Angel Wing is such a sad thing for a bird to have and unfortunately unless the bird is very young and given treatment right away, there is nothing that you can do for it and it will never fly again, but let's not dwell on the sad stuff...
When you watch the later vlogs, you will find Zephyr in a little boat, but which one? What we did do, was add a cushion for her and bring the boat up to the bank so she didn't have to jump down. Then she did it!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care.🦋🌻
Hello again! Hilarious watching your attempts to get Zephyr into the first Little Alice. Will be interesting to see if she ever does in future vlogs. Enjoyed all the wildlife, although I'm sad for Marlowe the Swan never flying again. That was a big mussel, appreciate your dedication to your viewers in brinking that stinky thing inside your boat. Best wishes, as always!
I often wonder what happened to that swan? Hopefully, it is enjoying living by the reservoirs, but it is so sad to know that it can't fly again. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻
Wonderful videos and narrative. It is always good to remind us to take the time to appreciate whats around us. Enjoy watching from Georgia USA.
Thank you, Don for your lovely comment. I am very lucky to be able to make time to appreciate nature so if others enjoy my discoveries too, it makes it all that extra bit special. Take care🦋🌻
The swan muscle bit made me lol.
Great to see you using the folding boat. So cool.
Spence, you wouldn’t have found it funny if you had smelt it! 🤣 I am looking forward to being able to row Little Alice on a proper adventure. Look after yourself; have a great weekend and week ahead. 🦋🌻
That 'little Alice' bath tub...fill it with balls, doggy treats and sticks!!! Maybe moor it in a shallow area where she can get in and out to get her treats herself??? BTW is Zeph part Ridgeback Vanessa? That was clever...a barking starling ha ha
I think your ideas are great as a way of encouraging Zephyr into the boat. Since then, we have sold Little Alice and we bought a slightly bigger version which Zeff goes in but like you said, it needs to be in the shallows so she can jump in herself. She is a Yellow/ Red Fox Labrador, but she does look a bit like a Ridgeback doesn't she? Thank you for your lovely comment again, Jenny! ⭐️Take care🦋🌻
In that boat? NO way. :D
😂 Thank you for watching. Take care 🌻🦋
Such an exciting time of year. I've seen the snow drops and daffodils. The daffodil symbolising new beginnings and rebirth. Lovely
Aw, thank you, Will, some material for next week’s vlog already! I do love a daffodil! Thank you for watching and have a great rest of the weekend!🌻🦋
Enjoying your videos, thank you. I take my dogs canoeing. I just made it totally normal for them to get onboard on land first. They are not naturally well behaved or like water! But they absolutely love the canoe and remain calm and relaxed when on the water. Dogs get in first and out last so I remain in control of the canoe's balance. Try some interlocking rubber gym mats on the floor of the boat, they are very light, grippy for paws and protect the hull. A dog slipping around whilst underway will spell disaster! Good luck!
Thank you so much for your comment. I hadn’t thought about the gym mats, what a super idea! So you have more than one dog in your canoe at the same time; that must look adorable as you travel up and down the water! Also, I am now wondering why on earth I have been getting in first!?!😀have a great Sunday and week ahead!🌻🦋
Again ❤😊
Thank you 🤗🦋🌻
👍🏻👍🏻
🙏
Blowing my mind with that Swan Muscle and the Middle levels are incredible as the journey there is to sounds exciting V love as always .
Who’d have thought we had such amazing creatures in our canal! Thank you, Ray. Have a great week!🌻🦋
Beautiful early signs of spring 🌻🌼
Thank you! I think we all need spring don’t we!?!🌻🦋🐝 Have a great weekend and week ahead!
Thank you Vanessa for a very interesting and funny vlog🤣 you had me laughing with your humour about the muscle shell and doggy bags. I could not believe how fast this vlog went, so so disappointed when the mindful cruise started l knew the end was near. May l say what a load of weather vains in that cruise and especially the one sticking out of the canal bank what a funny place for one. So nice to see the canal and hedge rows coming into life and those beautiful ducks 🦆🦆 and the males colouring was magnificent. Thank you again for your time making so enjoyable vlogs for us 😀. Hope you stay safe and have a pleasant week to come. 💜xxx
I’m delighted that you enjoyed it, Simon! Isn’t spring an exciting time of the year? It seems that everywhere I looked this week, there was something new and beautiful to see. Still haven’t found the bittern yet though! Thank you so much for your kindness and have a great weekend and week ahead!🌻🦋
Another fantastic vlog. Vanessa your facial expression @2:00 "ewooh hello" lets us all smell along with you. Thank you.
John, it was an incredible shell to look at, but I’m sure everyone on the towpath kept their distance from my boat that day! Have a great weekend and week ahead!🌻🦋
Bowl, dog food in boat when she is hungry!
Thanks for a lovely vlog.
You’re very welcome, Ruth! Have a great weekend and week ahead!🌻🦋
Good evening Vanessa, very beautiful vlog, I like spring a lot, I was born in this period, (March), the duck that you draw so well is a Northern Shoveler, called canard souchet in French, stay care, have a good week
Good evening, Jean-Louis, I am always keen to hear the translations of the animals in my journal to French; does the word souchet have a direct English translation as I’m guessing it doesn’t mean shoveler? I knew canard was duck as before I became vegan, this would have been something I would have been ordering on a French menu! French cuisine is the best in my opinion. Have a great weekend and week ahead.🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat It is difficult to give the translation (I use google translate, my English is not really perfect), I try to see the Latin name of the bird and I get the name in French and in English, French cuisine is very good, but I also really like Asian cuisine, have a good night
Swans muscles or clamps I bought some for my pond they filter the water that's why they stink they can move by sucking in water and squirting it out to move just a couple of foot👌👍🙏
Brilliant to have them in your pond!Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
Noooo!!!. You've got daffodils and snowdrops and we've got minus 15C and snow lol. Did get a splash of colour earlier in the week though when a small flock of house finches (drab name, but a pretty little bird) showed up (the chickadees had left them a few seeds on the sunflowers), so spring is not that far away. Lovely vlog as always, thank you.
Whoops! I started to feel guilty, but then I remembered you have exciting porcupines and barred owls amongst other amazing creatures and spring will be with you soon! Thank you for your comment. Have a great weekend and week ahead!🦋🌻👍
Lovely video thank you
Thank you so much, Lewis. Have a great weekend and week ahead!🌻🦋
Try tying boat up so its steady for her to get in like she is used to get hubby to untie when she is in to start i reckon she will do it ❤
Hi James, that is good advice, but since this video, we have exchanged Little Alice for a slightly bigger Little Alice and Zephyr will travel in her now. It is like you said though, we do have to make sure that the boat is level to her and steady before she jumps in. Thank you so much for your comment, take care🦋🌻

Hi. I've watched you trying to get Zephyr inside Litle Alice twice, great work! Maybe if you find somewhere that she dosen't have to enter the boat in a descending way it will be easier for her?
Thank you for the tip, Miguel. You are right, Zephyr doesn’t like the jumping down into the boat approach. Part of me thinks, she rather likes the training as there are lots of food rewards! Have a great Sunday and week ahead!🦋🌻
Yes it's a swan mussel, surprised they're in a canal, the water quality must be good
Thank you Clive! I wasn’t 100% sure and I was surprised to find it too. Were the mussels on the lock gates the invasive zebra or quagga mussels do you know? Have a great Sunday evening and week ahead.🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat difficult to see how big they are, zebra mussels are stripey and up to about 1.5"
Thank you for getting back to me. They were indeed striped and about that size.👍
@@themindfulnarrowboat that's two queries sorted then, have a good week😇
