American Bandstand really went disco during this era! They had their summer dance competition, usually the winning couple won a brand new car. This song was from,1978, I believe
Thank you to whoever suggested this song. It had been years since I had heard this.
Two other key songs you must hear by Peter Brown: "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me" and "Baby Gets High".
Yesssss a must hear/react!!!! Peter Brown was funky disco at it's finest!!! I think you guys would also love "All Night Thing" by Invisible Man's Band. Such a funky roller skating classic that is also a must hear/react to! 🥰
Definitely do you wanna get funky with me
Love do you wanna get funky..,
Chicago wt
I never met anyone who knows Baby Gets High!!!
In '76 the group, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band had a disco hit called Cherchez La Femme/C'est si Bon with lead singer Cory Daye. Their sound was big-band/swing/disco. The pronunciation of Buzzard is bew (like new) and zard (like yard). Around '80 they morphed into Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Their sound is a blend of disco/latin/big band. Two of their songs include Endicott (check out the video) and Going Places.
I also remember Tuxedo Junction who had a disco/big band mix and had a hit with Glen Miller's "Chattanooga Choo-Choo".
Funny, forgot that one but as soon as I saw the title I could hear it on my "brain radio".
I’ve recommended this tune previously! Such a great pick!
Yes loved all of it.
They must react to those.
When I was a little boy I couldn't wait until I was old enough to go to places where this type of music was played. To all who suggested this song great job
I danced the 70's and 80's away. Had a blast!
Me tooooo 💯💥
Me too
So glad you reacted to this full album cut of 'Dance With Me" instead of the shortened radio version! This was a monster hit back in '78 and was also Peter Brown's most successful. Talented musician -- he also co-wrote Madonna's "Material Girl". LONG LIVE DISCO! 🪩🕺🪩
I think 1975 to possibly 1995 were an extraordinary time of creativity, style, optimism, joy, and music. More recent generations have had all the fun squeezed out of life. We went from a sort of an artistic Renaissance to the Dark Ages in just a few years. The party ended, though, and Cinderella's coach turned back into a pumpkin. And now, it seems, it was all a dream.
Tim!
What a profound statement!
❤😊
@@Fruit17-ip4vl Thanks! Every now and then I manage to say something intelligent! Have a great weekend!
@@timward3116 You to! 😎💗
Amber, the great thing about this era is that if you had a steady partner, you could create routines but the rest is freestyle. You'd fit right in. I see you feeling the music. Just let your freak flag fly. Nothing sacred about free styling😊
This hit wasn't just a "little" Disco, it was major Disco! You gotta hear his other tune "Do you Wanna Get Funky with Me?" That was major fire and much more grittier and underground.
Definitely NYC underground.
you guys have to do Tom Browne-Funkin for Jamaica. Great dance song. Also Foxy "Get off" got you on the floor everytime
His biggest hit was Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me. This was the follow-up. Gotta listen the the big one.
My personal favorite of his...
No, "Dance With Me" was Peter Brown's biggest hit - it was Top 5 ALL over the place, where "Do You Wanna Get Funky" missed the Top 10 completely.
@MetFan37 We mean something completely different. In the spaces I inhabited, Funky got more airplay on and off the radio for a far longer period of time. It became an essential house music groove. It still gets played. Mainstream success does not necessarily represent musical footprint.
Lived it. Survived it. The beats, polyester, platforms, late nights, cocaine. The statutes of limitations are long over, but the memories continue. My pristine copy of this Peter Brown album was bought the week it came out.
don't forget leisure suits.
Had a feeling Jay would say it is fire with that bass line, the guitar and piano composition and it is fire. Great choice.
The great Betty Wright singing the background vocals.
I thought I recognized her, but wasn't sure...Good eye!!
I had no idea! Wow! I love Betty Wright!
Thanks for the info!😎
Love this song from Disco Time, a fun sing to dance ro
Rip Betty Wright
Haven't heard this since the '70's! Love this song and yes it was playing in all of the clubs in the mid-70's. Thanks for reacting to this one.
Rob Squad Reactions, Your videos always make me happy, so I subscribed!
YES!!!!!! GREAT one!!!! Never gets old; still on regular rotation in my car 😃Junior High School for me ❤ Amber, you are SO right; we were free, happy, danced and got our groove on; we LIVED.
GET DOWN - GET FUNKY!! LOVE IT!! THIS was a GREAT DANCE SONG!!! I remember this one!! SO FUNKY!! Can't listen to this song and NOT MOVE YOUR BODY!!! THANKS, YA'LL!!!
Rob Squad Reactions, Wow, this made my day brighter! Thank you!

I was a kid during the disco era of the 70's. I loved it. The music was so much fun. I'm glad you're discovering it.
I haven't heard this song in a hot minute and I am here for it!!!!!! And American Bandstand. Man, you are bringing me back! Love it! And congrats, Jay and Amber, for 550k subscribers! I have been a subscriber since 1 month after you started, right before Amber was a "regular" and I am so happy to see how you've grown.
Jay says: "I can imagine this being on Soul Train; I can imagine this being in every club ..." Ummm, this video was from the hottest TV dance show American Bandstand with Dick Clark, which came before Soul Train. It was THE Saturday dance TV show, and where many new music artists got to make their televised debut! Great song, and so fun to dance to! Thanks for a great reaction! ✌💙✌
Happy Tuesday to you two too. 70s were smooth for sure. Thanks for this one and the smile. Cheers
WHAT A SUPERB CHOICE BOTH OF YOU
GREAT LOVED THIS SONG LOADS !!!
CHEERS 🥂🎼🎸😀
Boy this brings me back! I remember going dancing with friends every weekend. Even when I was under 21 - no drinks or drugs, just dancing!
That was when music and dancing was all we needed to get high...at least it was for me, and it still is! 😊
"Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston was a monster disco hit in 76 originally done by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes a couple of years earlier.
Hope you guys get to this one!
OMG, I LOVE this song! I'm gonna listen to this like 15 more times. I used to listen to Disco before any of my high school dances. So much fun. ❤😊
One of the BEST breakdowns ever. So glad you heard the full version. That's very important with disco songs because we lived for those breakdowns.
This was a great song! I loved Disco!
BANGER! I used to go out to the clubs in Portland Maine five nights a week because of this type of music .The lines down the side walks were long waiting to get in. DISCO BABY
I had this 45 and would play it over and over. So great!!!
The B side of the 45 "For Your Love" was also great. Funky!
I was part of the Disco generation. Love this!
I love it when you guys talk about my generation with such esteem. You make me appreciate it so much more in retrospect. Disco music and bell bottoms were so maligned at the time.
I could not be more thrilled that you have finally gotten around to Peter Brown and his Dance With Me. Such a great disco classic that still gets me on my feet. Thank you, Jay & Amber! Next, I think you'll enjoy his fantastic Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me!
Another absolute disco classic you must listen to is Thelma Houston and Don’t Leave Me This Way … and be sure when you do, it’s the long version!😊
I'm 11 years old again and dancing away in my parents cellar with my cousins 😂😂😂
I think his best and most catchy song is "Crank it Up!" He also had a later hit with "They Only Come Out at Night".
Damn, I remember dancing to this in the clubs in New York like it was yesterday , not almost 50 years a go. Thanks for the memories!
Oh my God you just took me down memory lane in high school I worked at a teen disco. We literally bought the exact same dance floor that was in Saturday night fever and the owner insisted that we put the lights the exact same way that John Travolta danced on them lol. This song always had kids on the dance floor ... line dancing whatever it was twirling lol thanks for the memories! 💜
Wow, haven't heard this since I was a kid! Great tune!
Edit: Great point, Amber! Wouldn't wanna be caught practicing those dance moves, in front of anyone, until you've mastered them.😆
Edit2: This song was heavily sampled by Def Jef, in the late 80's, in a song called "Give it Here".
I never got tired of dancing to this song… great memories.
OMG!!Do you wanna get funky with me. Thank you for reminding me about that one.
The song by Orleans is great too, especially the solo on the melodica performed by Larry Hoppen.
That’s the one that came to my mind! I had never heard this before!!
OMG!! I Just listened to the acoustic version of LEVEL 42: SOMETHING ABOUT YOU
It made me Cry it has So Much Soul. I was there in 85 when the OG came out and this version sounds like it was written This Year. Wow! I’d love to see you react to it.thanks and much love
"Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" was Peter's first hit, and it took over the dancefloor in 1977. Late in 1977, TK Records announced that sales of the 12-inch version of "Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me" had reached the million dollar mark, making it the first gold 12-inch single in history.[2] The album went gold as well.
Yes and "You Should Do It"
Great jam!!!! When no one stayed home on Saturday nights!! The world had Saturday Night Fever, and there was no cure! What a great time we had!!!
Great song and memories. My oldest sister had the 45 of this song and me and my other sister would switch up singing the Betty Wright part when we were young teens in the 70s...lol.
YES, YES, YES. This song was great for dancing way back in the 2oth century. You could just lose yourself in the groove and funky cool misic as you slid across the colorful lights on the disco floor.
Songs like HOT NUMBER by Foxy.
GLASSHOUSE by the Temptations.
BOOGIE SHOES by KC and the Sunshine Band.
SERPENTINE FIRE by Earth, Wind, & Fire.
SHAKE YOUR BODY DOWN TO THE GROUND and BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE by the Jacksons.
And even Jermaine Jackson after he scored a hit after leaving the Jackson 5ive called LET'S BE YOUNG TONIGHT.
Rufus featuring Chaka Khan also had a song called DANCE WITH ME. You really ought to play that one, too. It is much different from this song. But it has Chaka Khan. Keep going and enjoy
Check out Peter Brown's Do you wanna get funky with me (1978) and Crank it up (1979). As well as Bell & James Liv'in it up Friday Night (1979).
All great suggestions and to them I'll add Get Off by Foxy.
You have never lied!
Yes!
❤😂😊
Big hit when I was in junior high. That video is from American Bandstand, which I watched every Saturday right before Soul Train. You know his other huge hit, Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me"
Don't forget that Betty Wright sang on this song. " Gotta keep on making me high"!
Did not know that. TY
That's why he highlighted her in the studio.....those backgrounds sunger where actors for her vocals.
The old American Bandstand takes me back and shows how old I am! LOL
The 70's were the best time of my young life. Dancing was like a drug with me, then Disco shows up, I was in heaven. I even won a dance contest once. LOL
So more 70s disco for a female friday set could be Vicki Sue Robinson's Turn The Beat Around, Diana Ross' The Boss (written and produced by Ashford and Simpson), and Grace Jones' I Need A Man. A couple of men who did songs during this era were Johnny Taylor (you've played his Who's Making Love) and the song Disco Lady. Another song is by Joe Tex (though some might have an issue with it) called, Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman). There should be a clip of this, probably from Soul Train.
Another sensation Disco hit of the 1970s! I LOVE the bass line! And Betty Wright and the backup singers add sensational soulful vocals! 🤩🎤🎸♬🪩
I'm sure no one would be unhappy with you trying to do the "sacred dance moves ". Have fun.😊
In 1984, he co-wrote "Material Girl", which became one of Madonna's biggest hits and signature song.
This was my favorite song by Peter Brown. I believe I was a senior in high school at the time of this one. There was a dance called The Spank and The Erroyl Flynn back then. It was so hott. It's too bad that you youngsters could not experience the music and clubs back in the day. I basically lived in the clubs. I can remember going 7 days out the week at least once or twice. House music made it's debut big in the early 80's which knocked out disco and it was just as hott.
I miss the 70's. W/o the internet I could name over 500 songs alone that I loved back then!
As a side note.... Peter Brown co-wrote MADONNAS "Material Girl" that she was most well known for in 1984.
Go PETER!!!
THis song brings up so many great memories of being a kid back then.
disco music at its best! This played at every we were in and it just got everyone on their feet!
His other big radio hit was "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" from the same year as this song, 1977.
Those dance moves where you have two or more people doing the same arm movements and steps all synchronized, we called those disco line dances. I don't really remember how to do any of them now, but there was one called the Bus Stop that was popular, as well as line dance versions of the Hustle. There's a great song by the Fatback Band from 1975 called "Do the Bus Stop" that y'all would like.
And most of the footage of dancers in this is from disco-era episodes of "American Bandstand," a music show similar to "Soul Train" but with beginnings in the 1950s. Amber, if you want to see how people danced during the disco era, check out UA-cam footage from that show for songs like the Bee Gees' "Staying Alive" and Donna Summer's "I Feel Love."
Such a fun time ... Watching Bandstand and Soul Train on Saturday afternoon in my teens and just dancing in the living room .... Great times.... Why I became a wedding/party DJ for over 20 years ❤
Thanks for this memory! I was in college and going out several nights a week when this was a hit. The dance floor would be full in just a few seconds when this song came on. Hard to believe it was almost 50 years ago!
One of my faves. I totally forgot about this bop. Thank you.
Rob Squad Reactions, Yay! I liked this video so much, it made me smile!
The cleanup woman!
Iconic.... Seventies Disco! Love it When every guy wanted to look like John Travolta with the suit, trim pants, and open shirt. The Ladies had tall shoes, Halter tops, and big bottom bells. Or skimpy thin clingy, reveling dresses. I loved to go Disco dancing in the Seventies. I also loved to dance to country, too.
A truly fun song! Good choice Jay and Amber! ❤️🌹
LOVED this song... wore the 7" single out!!!! His hit "Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me" is also a dance banger!!!!
And at the Roller Rink after hours. Best of Times! And he won a Grammy!
Yes this was real disco. A lot of the scenes you were seeing were from American Bandstand, which we used to watch just for the Dancing alone. But the music was amazing as well.
Amber and Jay in the video the dancers are on American Bandstand dance show every Saturday mornings you notice it saids A B for American Bandstand 🙂
The video had a lot of footage from American Bandstand (see AB on the wall). It was definitely a dance staple.
I had forgotten this song! I loved it!! Love your reaction!!!
This guy made his first records, including "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me", in his BEDROOM, and got signed to a record deal from sending his tapes to the label. Talk about the DIY ethos, he took it to the extreme and wound up making his mark on the scene.
Those dancers really worked on their craft!! Back in the day, ordinary people really practiced and showed off their dancing skills at the disco.
Oh wow! I used to dance to this back in the day on the dancefloors. It’s fire🔥🔥🔥🔥
you are right on jay this song was played in every dance club in the land in the 70's! all night long --9:00 to 3:00! do you realize how much fun we had! just look at those dancers..... that was us! and yes amber, what a great time to be alive! best part: i'm still alive!!
Wow!!! This song is old. I remember it!!! I was 10 years old lol...😂😂😂
Thank you for responding to this dance classic. Dance your cares away.
I was 7, I found this new album in my stepfather's collection...that cover...lol...my little boy heart would race whenever I picked it up. ;-))) Let's just say it was a very sensual silhouette of a woman stand behind a window shade. This is like 46 years old and I still listen to this and "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me" at the gym weekly.🥰🥰🥰 Also, Think - If you are a kid listening to this kinda music, you know we gon be Funky! This is why 90's hip hop is so FUNKY!
Good to see this one. I think I suggested it a couple years ago.
There is a super long LP or dance version too.
Also checkout Evelyn Champagne King's Shame. Another great disco hit from 1978
Yeeeeeeeahhh! This is the jam Guys! Excellent choice. ~Red
Brown's "Fantasy Love Affair" was one of my favorite albums when I was a disco dj, sure wish I could find my copy. It had a 9 minute burner on it called "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me" that was actually too slow for most people to dance to in discos.
There is nothing better than watching you catch a groove at the start of a video and riding it through all the twists and turns to the end.
I remember dancing to this in the discos (snuck in under age…lol) wearing some double-knit bell bottoms, with a tight silk shirt and platform shoes.
This song was the bomb!
I had this song on an 8 track that my parents bought on a road trip to play in the car. Good times😄💃
This song is still awesome. Surprised nobody's covered this in recent years...
Love it when you discover Disco hits I danced to in the 70's.
This was at every sock hop and all our school dances. Disco club banger back in the day. Thank you for this memory. Took me back to good times and days. It also reminded me of of another song called DANCE WITH ME by a ‘70s pop rock band called ORLEANS. Very popular song you should check out some time 🇨🇦
This one seems to have been forgotten a bit and not played as much when disco music gets played these days, but it is definitely one of the best disco hits from the disco era. I think I like it more because it doesn't get overplayed.
Never mind the music, check out all those way cool dance moves on American Bandstand - every Saturday around noon.
We got to be so creative dancing to this song with all of it's fun changes. The joy of the disco daaaaze! :oD
Peter Browns .Do you wanna get funky with me. Is Funk fire song😊
I WAS BORN IN THE 70S VERY HAPPY TO BE BORN IN THE ERA! AWESOME TAKE CARE ROB AND AMBER❤❤❤YOU GUYS ROCK❤
I love that line, “say the word, and I’ll summon the band , with my hand - let your mind and your body be free, dance with me, ha” 🤩🔥
I graduated in Detroit in 1972. Then I went away to college! The early discos were the bomb!
One of my favorites, and I've been listening to it for the past four days, now you're reacting to it. I do have special powers! 😯
The skating rink was no place for beginners when this came on! 🛼
Party on! 🎉💥
What a banger! 😎
