Glad tidings of great joy to thee, dear Iphis,
And to the house of Israel I bring.
Thus then, in brief. Both armies in array
Of battle rang'd, our general stept forth
And offer'd haughty Ammon terms of peace,
Most just and righteous; these with scorn refus'd,
He bade the trumpet sound. But scarce a sword
Was ting'd in hostile blood, ere all around
The thund'ring Heavens open'd and pour'd forth
Thousands of armed cherubim, when straight
Our general cried: "This is thy signal, Lord,
I follow Thee, and Thy bright heav'nly host."
Then rushing on proud Ammon, all aghast,
He made a bloody slaughter, and pursu'd
The flying foe till night bade sheathe the sword,
And taste the joys of victory and peace.

Im an American and it took me a good 30 seconds to realize he was speaking in English; I’m too surrounded by the dumbed-down-slang- English to even recognize that it could sound this beautiful.

To me it seems to be a very slow version of "up the dreadful steep ascending". I miss the power and energy in this one a bit. It's kind of sleepy.

Орлинский,но не нравится дирижер,который прыгает за пультом и непонятно,какой-то у него дирижерский жест,и одет ни как подобает дирижеру,так надоело смотреть,когда из классики делают шоу,или модерн-оперы,где солисты одеты,как обычные люди и ведут себя на сцене исполняя того же Великого Генделя,словно в притоне,я не побоюсь сказать,что опера нынче,превратилась в притон,противно и гадко смотреть,что творят новоявленные новориши с оперной сценой,ужас! А ведь опера -это культура и воспитание...
I one hundred present agree with you. To me it is disappointing when the Traditional is lowers to nothing. Unfortunately it is happening all over. The traditions that are thrown out of the window is not only in Opera but also in Churches flowing from the USA. I love the Russian Orthodox Church music which seems to be the same as it used to be 100 years ago. I love the Church Pipe Organ but it will be ridiculous to use it with the Russian Monastery Choirs, the different voices will go astray but the Organ pays a big role in Western Church Music. Unfortunately the organs are phased out as there are in the City I live only about 5 Organists with a Organ degree and only 3 are actually playing at congregations. Some Churches use Piano Teachers as organists and the the sad part is that some churches implemented horrible "bands". It seems that music as we use to know it has gone down and only rubbish music is taking over.

Марианна, к сожалению, дело не в искусстве, а в ваших требованиях. Люди сидят и наслаждаются музыкой, а значит, дирижер все делает правильно. Его движения и внешний вид, очевидно, соответствуют требованиям ансамбля, слушателей и собора, в котором он выступает. Хотите чинности и благолепия - вам в ближайшую точку РПЦ. (А с многочисленными пунктуационными, орфографическими и стилистическими ошибками ваши жалобы на низкий уровень культуры выглядят по меньшей мере неубедительно.)
