    You know what would be cool. A tremendous time lapse that would show how this astounding canyon looked as it was being formed!

    sometimes risky or undertaking.

      This is my favorite canyon. Just barely spared in the recent Rafael fire. I need to make it a point to get back there when the forests re-open.

    as an Arizona native I LOVE seeing the four corners region and the hard to reach spots.. utmost love and respect and please keep enjoying the beauty while sharing with us all! Chevelon Canyon is desolate and far but its our backyard to the 40 acres we now homestead.. if you're ever standing on a corner near Winslow AZ I hope you'll share your adventure :-D

    • @JerryArizona

      She's definitely better looking than me and the Eric's. Tina doesn't do canyoneering anymore. Something about 'that might kill me'....I wasn't really listening. But we've got plenty of trips coming up and one video I'm working on.

  • @jaywallin

    Great video! I’m sure the camera work compounded the difficulty of the canyon.
    I’m curious what trail you used to get back to the top?

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona 3 роки тому

      This was GoPro 8. Just one press to record, one to stop. So it's pretty easy to use. I never really know if I'm getting the shot since it's on my helmet most of the time, but luckily the wide angle makes it hard to miss the action. We went out the sneak route. You used to take Call of the Canyon/West Fork out, then car shuttle back to Edge of the World. We went out the sneak route, which is just an unmarked, brutal climb up an adjacent, unnamed canyon that canyoneers found to climb directly from the bottom back up to the top. If you read up some beta, you can probably get a gps route for it.

      @@JerryArizona well done! That looked rugged, and you caught the whole thing very well.
      That’s funny because the whole time I was watching I assumed you were gonna hike out of west fork and have to drive a car back to your original spot. That’s really cool that people found a route to hike right back up. I’m sure it’s very intense.

    What type of GPS device do you use when hiking? I'll be buying my 1st GPS and don't really know what to get. Thank you and amazing videos! I also hike with wife!

    • @JerryArizona

      Glad you enjoy them. It's always great when you and your spouse have the same hobbies. For a GPS, we have always just used Gaia on our iPhones. It can get wonky once in a while, but we've always been able to find our way with it. Plus, it's like $40 (?) a year, so pretty cheap.

    how do you like the 5.10 tennie for technical canyoneering? durable? have any specific dislikes?

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona 4 роки тому +1

      They're grippy and reasonably durable. What I don't like is they're really tight. I have a pretty wide foot (I like Keen hiking shoes which are stupidly wide) and this pair give me blisters. I feel like my feet are crammed in them. I'm probably going to have to get a different pair just because of that. If you don't have wide feet, they'd probably be fine.

    • @80808O
      @80808O 4 роки тому +1

      @@JerryArizona good to know because my feet are crazy wide. While I'm afraid of how heavy they will get when wet(they are hefty even when dry) or how they will dry out, I have found the SCARPA Zen PRO approach shoes have really great fit on my fat feet. Surprisingly Garmont Sticky Stone/Clouds work for me too (they look really skinny). They have that crammed in feeling but I have not had any blistering issues after doing Flatiron a couple times with them.
      I wish Keen or Merrell made their staple boots and shoes in variants with Vibram Megagrip soles.

      The guy tennie seems to be holding up well in the canyons good rubber for some of the more technical down climbing but take a while to dry. If you have wider feet check out the tx4 had to go a half size bigger than normal to get the width but they handle the bigger days band miles more comfortably.

    Ya, the first rappel is not a rappel. You can walk around it and save like 30-40 minutes.

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona Рік тому

      Yeah, I learned that this trip when I went back up to unstick the rope. Personally I liked rappelling it more than climbing it.
