    Great project man! Do you think it would be possible to wire a shock motor like the one found on xbox controllers to the board? I was thinking about having recoil with the trigger push

    • @thesimnet
      @thesimnet  2 місяці тому

      I have not tried this personally as I am not familiar with motors and the voltages they require. Theoretically yes, but it may require a different/updated pcb etc. Definitely a stretch goal of mine to integrate somehow!

      Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if WinWing releases their own version of the B-8 one day. I would love to have an accurate B-8 replica from a proper vendor. The Virpil Warbrd is good but it’s based on a Russian helicopter grip, not the actual B-8/MC-2

    Oh this is awesome. Is it possible to connect a 2 axis analogue stick to this? (For a tdc)

    • @thesimnet
      @thesimnet  11 місяців тому

      The PCB I have been using does not have an option for axis, however it is technically possible as Virpil grips do have axis on the grip - just probably with a different PCB. If you are building this grip to work with a custom base, you could run the wires into the base itself, that could definitely work! The trim hat is removable for this reason, I figured poeple would want to use different types of switches etc

  • @mpsteidle
    @mpsteidle Рік тому +2

    Hey again, loving these videos.
    You should consider making a version of these grips that accepts the original style base adapter. This would let us use both original Warthog adapters, or substitute in VKB and Winwing adapters!

    • @thesimnet
      @thesimnet  Рік тому +2

      I see what you’re saying - if the dimensions are the same, you can just slide the adapter in? If so, that’s amazing

      @@thesimnet I was gonna say the same thing. I have a VKB GF 3 base, which I love, and the VKB/Warthog adaptor, and would love to be able to use your grips with just needing to buy multiple adapters, or just re-use the adaptor,

      There are lots of approaches! At the simplest level, I will put an object on the floor next to a ruler and zoom in so it fills the screen, and take pictures from all angles which I load into blender and "trace". I also have a few 3d scanning apps on my phone which work great for handheld objects like grips. Some apps don't require the LiDar sensor and can create decent models from photos alone. These models are usually a little rough but the scale is accurate, so that serves as a "base mesh" while I model a new mesh on top. If people are interested in a how-too video I can show my process from start to finish!

    • @mr.hermitsquid2694
      @mr.hermitsquid2694 10 місяців тому

      @thesimnet I would love a how too video! I am using Solidworks so it is a different process, but I would still love to learn. I will have to check out the scanning apps. Thanks for the reply!

  • @python27au

    So how does it actually attach to the base?
    Ive always wanted to create an extension so i can sit the base on the floor between my feet and bring the grip over the seat between my knees, like a helo stick. Im kinda sick of having it on the side.

    • @thesimnet
      @thesimnet  6 місяців тому

      The thread on a thrustmaster or virpil base is M36x2.0 and so the stick has a nut that interfaces with the base like a regular thrustmaster or virpil stick

    Hey great video! i just wanted to mention that the 3d printing community has mostly left thingiverse in favor of Printables and that cults3d links are straight up banned from the 3d printing subreddit after some shady dealings where the site was withholding money from designers that they had earned from their designs and then slandering the designers on twitter. so the best place to post your designs for the time being is probably Printables if you want them to be seen.

      Thank you for the feedback! I made this model in Blender - each vertex is actually hand placed, so I was unable to run a subdivision modifier without running into all sorts of intersecting faces. That being said, there is a version 2 that I am working on, and this will be released later this summer, of a much higher fidelity. The components will be identical however, so folks will very easily be able to swap over to V2 when the time comes. Cheers!

    I have a real B-8 that I have been wanting to convert to flight sim use. Looks like the electronics would allow me to just wire up the switches and go!
