Heyy pranav anna I'm a genetics student 😄 I've worked with HeLa cells and A549 cell lines. They are really fascinating. The problem with cell immortality is that they're highly unstable and uncontrollable. For example HeLa cell lines do not have 23 pairs/ 46 chromosomes.. They have almost 70-90 chromosomes. Very high number of mutations is common in cancer cell lines. So immortality being achieved through cancer is questionable. But yes working with telomerases our scientists might figure out something... I'm looking forward to study cancer biology as I lost someone close to me, to cancer and no one else should. Even though I knew a lot of the things you discussed, I really liked the video!!! Everyone should know these things and thanku for making this video..
I hope our scientists fail in every stage of research related to a species and human immortality. It's against nature I think and who would want to live for centuries. Sick minded people only will fantasize about it.
How can they've 70-90 chromosomes if they're human cells? In my limited exposure to this subject i was told this happens in plant cells only. This is fascinating 😯
@@Ashish-sm8do hi! So some plants by default can have more than 46 chromosomes, and some animals can too. But when cancer occurs, cells rapidly divide while also mutating. This results in abnormalities or aberrations.. That means, the cells tend to have more or less number of chromosomes than they're supposed to have. Chromosome number can also vary due to small mutations during formation of zygote. Example: downs syndrome etc.. So basically they're not supposed to have that many, but they do. Hope this helped 😄

Excellent editing and presentation! I love when scientific jargons are presented in such lucid ways by people like you and many other science channels in UA-cam. The effort you're taking in expanding science and scientific temperament in people is commendable.
Personal belief- I think videos like these that goes into the history of science is an excellent way of teaching any scientific topic. Schools don't just ask students to rote mathematical formulae. They take an effort to teach students the derivations that led to the formula. That way it's much easier to understand the formula and even think critically about it. Similarly, I wonder if including the history (if available/known) behind biology, physics, chemistry (or any subject) when teaching could enhance the learning experience of the students?
We may not use everything that we learn in school in our practical day to day life. However, as Neil Tyson points out that it's the method of learning (and not the math formulae, or the chemical bonds and the molar masses, the central dogma or the speed of light and several other scientific nuances) that matters the most because it allows us to solve problems and boy, life's full of them!
Correction- HEK293 cells are of embryonic origin not fetal. It's Human Embryonic Kidneys and fun fact- just like HELA, HEKs are also the powerhouse of most biomedical research.
Suggestion- Could you think about making a video on the CRISPR patent race between Feng Zhang, Jen Doudna and others? Although short, it's covered beautifully in Walter Issacson's book "The Code Breakers".

Very interesting to know this about HeLa cells. I had previously heard about them and their connection to research into immortality, but didn't know that her cells were responsible and helpful for many other biological and pharmaceutical advances. Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the common masses.
Also, the story about her death shows that while everyone who wanted her cells for research, they didn't spare one thought for Henrietta and her health. Maybe if one of them cared enough, she might have lived a longer life with some treatment.
