In this case, Stephanie's is the voice of reason. She is Ridge's and Thorne's mother and wants peace in the family. She also knows how much Taylor loves Ridge, and worries that Taylor is too upset to think rationally. I don't see it as an obsession on Stephanie's part. In fact she is looking out for Taylor, whom she considers like a daughter.
