Was absolutely gutted for Laurel at the end. Such a heartbreaking episode. John Middleton and Charlotte Bellamy were incredible.
I'll take any illness when I get old- arthritic pain, deafness, weak eyes-
anything but this!
and sadly he wasn’t even that old.
this was a fantastic episode John MIddleton needs to win best actor i cried my eyes out my mom has dementia and it helps me understand what she is going through.So sad but brilliantly acted and written

Phenomenal acting and episode
I cried so hard during this episode .my mom was just diagnosed with dementia it hit me hard.
This was one of the greatest episodes ever.
A through the keyhole analysis of Alzheimer's disease. Seeing through the eyes of the patient presents us with an emotion beyond confusion, terror and horror. A feeling that doesn't have a name, maybe it never did. Everything of value torn from a man deeply loved by his community. Going from Ashley the minister offering prayers to his parishioners...Ashley devoted father to his young children, watching them grow...Ashley in love with Laurel, building a life with her...to Ashley, the man who can't recognise anyone. Congratulations to the writers for their unwavering honesty in depicting this horrendous illness. I get upset every time I watch clips of this storyline. Yet despite how dark it is, at the end of this episode, we know Ashley will always be loved.
A beautifully portrayed episode and storyline this was probably better than some movies
This was such a brilliant episode. Just made me cry all over again.

Brilliant acting from all concerned, and especially from John Middleton, also great writing. A dreadful disease, heartbreaking to see what it does to people.

It must be very scary to go through dementia. John Middleton deserved a special award for a good performance.
My brother has this dementia from falls in hospital.terrible.

I’m guessing it’s because Ashley’s thinking about Laurel and the others and because he keeps forgetting who everyone is and he’s upset and he just wants to go home again to be with his family. It’s really sad.
He just wants it all to end.

Yes couse he was seeing her as a different person
Laurel, Doug, Aaron and Chas were all different people for a bit ( as Ashley saw them) but in the end they were played by Duncan Preston, Charlotte Bellamy, Danny Miller and Lucy Pargeter.

Yes. They used different actors to play characters we all know in order to show things from Ashley's perspective. He doesn't recognise people anymore.

Emily Mcaloo No. That was just a regular shop assistant. The characters they changed were Aaron, Chas, Doug and Laurel.

I’m confused the woman who was upset and worried about Ashley how come did she turn into Laurel and that everyone was different and then they changed, was the scene with Ashley and Laurel and the others at the pub at the end was he dreaming it all I’m guessing and it’s like he passed out while hugging the woman I don’t know her name.
Sort of. Ashley couldn't recognise anyone due to his dementia. It was the mention of Diane and Dotty which gradually brought his memory back. So then Ashley briefly recognised Laurel but then couldn't remember who she was.
How Come that sounds like laurel but she looks different and wears the same cloths
