Classic copter of the Joe line. Sharp lines, over the top engineering, and cramped cockpit, it's a definitely a Cobra aircraft! Never had one as a kid, but I remember seeing them on the selves. Can't remember what elected to buy, but it must have been great..but not great enough to remember. Great review guys, and the Mamba dance at the end was a nice touch! YO! JO-BURG!!
It seems like the Joe team was made up of the high school in crowd of the beautiful people and Cobra was made up of the misfits and outcasts. That's why I always rooted for Cobra.
Right on man. As a child I always idolized Joe... as a cynical adult I tend to think more in line with Cobra. Maybe your explanation is the reason why...
I had this. It was cool. I got two pilots in my box.. always wondered if that was a mistake. I put them in the twin pods and used a different Viper in the central cockpit
Only saw this comment now for some reason, what a score 2 gyro vipers. I got 2 extra sets of wheels with my eaglehawk I think thats the extent of my luck with that kinda thing ;D
Love this helicopter, even the dog fighting against Rattler's in Cobra's Civil War, gotta respect the GyroVipers testicular fortitude or madness in flying such attacks. GoBurg needs to get back to these reviews. 🍻⚔
I have it with the box as well and paid 60 for it. I remember my friend got it when I was a kid so I was able to play with it. this kid would get all the big vehicles and I would just get the smaller things
Sherman Eagles I hope you're making up for it now! And 60 bucks seems like quite a score. Good job. Big vehicles and play sets are all fine and well, but I think most of us really connected with the more moderate size. I don't know anybody that didn't love the VAMP...
I am planning on getting this heliocopter, and along with other GI Joe and Cobra vehicles making them all remote control and the grand daddy of it all will be making 2 USS Flagg aircraft carriers with one being a Cobra aircraft carrier with lowering doors to launch water vehicles, and to launch aircrafts while it floats. I am starting to get the vehicles, and will have videos of the transformation of GI Joe vehicles into remote control vehicles soon on my channel.
I like all the info here, for example, the part about how the pods are landed with retro rockets and drag chutes - terrific stuff. Were did you dig up that nugget? The Mamba was always a favorite of mine, and I'm working on building my own now (out of Lego). Your review is a great resource, as I decide which elements to retain, leave out, or upgrade.
Truth be told, I think we made that bit up! We're always trying to explain away our toy's eccentricities with some practical uses. Which granted is pretty daft. But we love it so!
Shameless plug - I finished my own Mamba - you can check out pics of it here: www.flickr.com/photos/78224984@N00/sets/72157677130011743/ Whenever I build something like this, I always do research by checking out pictures of the toy in question, and especially reviews like yours. So thank you :)
Now there's a proud daddy! Glad we could play a part! We too love a little UA-cam research on a toy we're pining for. Love this outlet! There might be a lot of crap, but there certainly are some gems too.
Thanks! As a Lego builder who builds G.I.Joe stuff, it is really cool to combine two hobbies. But I'm sometimes unsure where the best places are to post my stuff. I want anyone who would get a kick out of my stuff to see it, but I also don't want to spam my builds all over, hijacking other people's threads etc. So thanks for the encouragement!
This one I got for x-mas back in the day. I have read a fair share of reviews on the internet and I really don't get why so much hate some seem to have for the Mamba; to me, it was an awesome toy. The only thing that bugged me back then was the way in which the pods attached to the helicopter, at times I feared that I would break something. It can also be said that the Gyro Viper was a bit on the lame side when it came to its overall look compared to other Cobra pilots and drivers. Aside from that, pure awesomeness!
Having only encountered this thing as an adult, I was suitably impressed at how sturdy the pod lock-ups were. That plastic is pretty thick. Or at least, in my estimation it is! I don't detach the pods all that often. And Gyro-Viper has got a fantastic sculpt. Some folks hate the colours, but I have no love for drivers and pilots who colour-coordinate with their vehicles. And the Mamba. Yes, pure awesomeness. Finally a substantial Cobra Helo. With a buttload of missiles and bombs.
Well done, as usual. I feel like the Mamba would be best suited for deep infiltration missions. Its ability to drop bombs gives it precision demolition capabilities and it can easily cruise at low altitudes to evade radar. The gigantic Mambomb, though, wouldn’t be terribly useful at low altitude but I’m sure a crafty pilot could make do. The pods, though, could be used to deliver a couple of operatives deep behind enemy lines for clandestine activities, or if you wanted some more expendable firepower, slap a couple BATs in them and now you’ve got self guided missiles when they run out of ammo.
Stick BATs in the secondary cabs in order to turn them into truly disposable suicide attack craft (trained gunners are better, but take more time and resources to train)
Couldn't agree more, Stephen. Shooting indoors is so dull! We promise to never do it again. Thanks for commenting bud, we'll be outside, playing with our Joes again shortly!
hen i think about it , concerning detail most of these toys are just that, so being too critical to me wouldn't make sense if Hasbro had an market that pays to sell them to paying adults, then perhaps you would get the detail and the expected retail higher cost!! i would give this item a C
If they’re geared together, they should never meet (unless the gearing stripped!). There are a few real-life examples of this setup. A lot of lift generation; but not as efficient as other designs.

Speak for yourself. Cobra had the better toys!
@@dubuyajay9964
@@dubuyajay9964 the Joes had better vehicles but cobra always had the better figures compared to the Joes boring green and grey army soldiers
@@jazzmeister2485 Nah, Cobra had better vehicles too.
Omg that was one of my favourite toys when I was a kid!
Great review, love the narration!
Too bad there was never an issue where Wild Bill in the XH-1 Dragonfly Assault Helicopter took on a Gyro-Viper in a Mamba.
Agreed. BUT I am grateful we saw some Rattler versus Mamba action in the Cobra Island Civil War!
@@gijoburg #TeamSerpentor. *THIS I COMMAND!!!!!!!* 🐍👑💪💯
Aha! So you’re one of those? I should’ve guessed.
@@gijoburg Hmmph. There's no pleasing you sometimes. 😋
Lever released bombs are an underrated feature that adds to the playability of an already action packed vehicle 😎
Right now on my list to purchase!

I'm so glad! Quintessential Cobra Air Power!!!

I wish I did too! But I'm making up for that now!
Dammit! I already gave my number to the Cobra Mamba.
But that's cool cuz Joe's got my back. 🐱👤

The design on this one is otherworldly

Love the idea that all the suicide-mobiles of Cobra are really designed with BATs in mind. Nice!

So much fun! You guys are too much!
