@SleekHairedChocolate Pokeballs are just classic, iconic and honestly some of my favourite looking pokeballs anyway. I'll use other variants here and there, but you can't beat the original. Love em.

Nintendo designed this pretty well in my opinion; caught Gen 1 Pokémon being directly compatible with the USUM games which conveniently has a lot of regional Gen 1 variations. It's the first games where Gen 1 Pokémon can get their first ribbons as well.
The thing about Gen 1 and 2 is that they don't store the pokeball data. So whenever you catch any pokemon in gen 1 or 2 with any pokeball, it always converts to a regular pokeball in Pokemon Home. Gen 3 onwards is where you need to be careful with the choice of ball.

In Red and Blue you CAN catch Safari Zone (grass encounter) Pokemon with normal Pokeballs in Gen1 - using a variation of the Missingno glitch. Simply get to the Safari Zone area with the Pokemon you're wanting and let the time run out - then fly / teleport to Cinnibar and surf on the coastline. Because the Safari Zone was the last area loaded for Pokemon, you can fight Safari Zone Pokemon as if they're normal Pokemon there. Granted - this bit of information was too late for this video - but it's there for next time (and anyone else who'll find that information useful)
You can just fly out of the Safari Zone, you don't need to wait for the time to expire. This is actually why the Missingno glitch even works. They never programmed encounters for that coastline of Cinnabar so the game uses the last area with random encounters. When you talk to the Old Man to see the catching tutorial the game stores your character name in the random encounter area of memory so when you fly to Cinnabar Island and surf the shoreline you are moving through the encounters of your Trainer Name. That's why different Trainer names will have different encounters than each other when searching for Missingno.
As someone who is starting a living dex, hope to see this series continue. Thanks for giving me the idea to only use pokeballs as well. Will definitely be doing that.
Always love watching living dex completion videos interesting to see how people go about it. For example for my starters I sent them from gen 1 to gen 2 then breed them and traded them back to Kanto to get mine also easier to see gender. Also wanted them to all have the same OT
I started this same challenge of collecting a living dex with all of the Pokémon in Pokéballs from their original games in my OT early last year, it’s great seeing someone else wanting to do the same!
Living Dex challenge is always a fun challenge. I completed mine a couple years ago in 2020/21, and it was a great experience. Unfortunately I didn’t have access to a Bank membership and RBY, so I had to complete it in gen 6. The GTS was a lifesaver, and it’s super lucky that in generation 6 you can catch every Pokémon through 1 way or another.
I literally started this exact style of challenge in 2021 and have completed it right up to The Teal Mask, I'm so proud of this achievement and I'm glad to see other people doing it too, best of luck with the rest of the challenge!
I love it how you go into literarily every other game that has Gen 1 form differences. Overcompletion for the win. The Raticate Super Fang method is one I haven't thought about myself, so I'm glad this was brought to my attention.
Yeah raticate is crazy in gen 1 because you don’t need to weaken Pokémon all the way to 1 hp to get max catch rates! The highest catch rate you get is at 1/4 hp which is conveniently when you use 2 super fangs!
@@ThedomiNATION 2 Superfangs? Brilliant. Abd of course with only three ghost types in Gen 1 and none of them legendary nor mythical, catching three low level Gastly's isn't even that hard.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who did this with my living dex. I did pokeball only just to have everything feel connected. I remember the hardest gens for this was Gen 3 and 4 since technically I used other balls in Gen 1 and 2
Honestly for me I feel like gen 3 might be the easiest because I have access to so many gen 3 games and tbh gen 1 has too many Pokémon if you include all the regional variants and gender differences lol. Most later gens even gen 5 will probably feel way shorter…. I hope
The only thing I did different is for the form differences I caught them in the Gen the non gender form difference was introduced (ex I caught ?! Unowns in Gen 3, all of my GMax mons are from Galar, etc)
@@ThedomiNATION don’t worry I’m sure it will. For me Gen 3 was really brutal since I had to replay that Gen THREE times cause I don’t own emerald for Beldum so I didn’t really grind my starter so fighting Rayquaza was literally just praying he didn’t oneshot me immediately. I remember Gen 1 I had a DV calculator on hand and abused the Special Stat exploit to avoid resetting for multiple Eevees and getting some version exclusive mons easier
This is awesome. A few years ago I started this myself, by getting a living Dex where all Gen 1 Pokémon come from RBY, all Gen 2 come from GSC, all Gen 3 from RSE, and so on. Been fun and a little frustrating! I started off just getting 1 but decided after I was halfway to go back and do all the forms too
Never thought I'd watch a video about such a wild grind, but man you made this such a fun video watch! I don't know if I have it in me to do a living dex to the extent you went, but this sure does inspire me even more to go for a proper (my kind of proper, as in not caring about genders or every variants with some exceptions) living dex at least for Gen 1.
This is definitely one of the most informative but actually entertaining living dex videos that I have seen. I’m working on my living dex right now and I don’t think I have the patience to do it this way but I’m amazed
Hey I know this video is a year old and you kinda already figured out the Mr. Mime naming thing, but to add a final layer to it: if you nickname the Mr. Mime a censored word, then poke transporter will remove the nickname and reset the name to the correctly capitalized and punctuated "Mr. Mime" instead of "MR.MIME". It may be a tiny nitpick but this way, you can have your Mr. Mime not be nicknamed "Mr. Mime" and still have the correct name capitalization/spacing. I'm not going to write what I named it in case UA-cam comments also censor it but a lot of pretty inoffensive words get censored so you don't even need to be a horrible person to do this lmao. Edit: I saw someone else already commented this in the part 2 video. :) Anyway, love the content!
This is such an impressive collection! Gutted I wasn't able to join most of these streams but now that you've explained everything so well I'm going to try it myself. Well done bro, can't wait for gen 2!
I love this! Since X and Y, I've made a point of catching EVERYTHING for my Living Dex in Premier Balls, wherever possible of course. It's just so damn satisfying having everything using the same ball aesthetic, congrats on finishing this dude, definitely not a quick and easy task! Instantly subscribed 👍
Very cool! This is the same challenge I am attemting but with some minor differences, I also dislike the use of glitches so I avoid using them at all cost. Excited to see the videos from the other generations!
Good luck! I really only used glitches to get specific unobtainable Pokémon and to save me a lot of time for evolving/getting eevee lol. But I totally get trying to do everything legit! Mad props to you for doing it!
@@ThedomiNATION Thanks! Yes I see, I am still in preparation phase but I have caught alot in 1 gen already, I need to find out something for the starters/eevee. As for Mew as it is not obtainable by legit means I had to go with Mew you got from Pokeball Pluss in Lets GO, its the one and only legit Mew with your ID/OT you can get that originates from Kanto.
I've been working on this for months at this point, maybe even a couple of years, and I completed most of Gen 1 and 2... then my console was stolen and I had to start again, and I just can't bring myself to pick up and play Gen 1 willingly. Massive respect for being able to do this!
@@ThedomiNATION It's weird, I think we all can practically speedrun the game at this point, but I think the later Pokemon games have spoiled me with their improvements, even though I grew up with Gen 1.
i started this myself about a year and a half ago i thought it would just be cool to catch everyhting in a simple pokeball ctazy to see someone do it exactly with the same rules i set myself great video
In the VC releases, Pokémon Bank can't really tell which gen a Pokémon is from, just where it was transferred from. So you can trade a Pokémon to gen 2 to breed, then send the children back to gen 1 and use Poké Transporter, it will say it is from "The Kanto region in the good old days" and vice-versa.
Impressive drive on display here! Did you consider the Cinnabar Island shore glitch to collect the safari exclusives in Pokeballs? I'm not at all criticizing your methods, just making a small observation.
I did not consider it because I never realized how that glitch worked until I got comments for it in this video. I always just thought it gave you a random selection of Pokémon. I probably wouldn’t have done it differently though because the pokeball data doesn’t save anyway!
I’ve always been obsessed w only using pokeballs I’m gonna go through my Pokémon home and figure out which ones are not in Pokéballs and catching a new version in a pokeball
I've been doing this exact same quest, catching everything in a regular pokeball, i've even decided to get all in game trade pokemon at their lowest possible level, like the level 5 machamp you can get in gen 1
So I have my FULL living dex in Pokemon Home ONLY in Pokeballs with exceptions to Mythicals and some version exclusives I only got via Trade. Regardless to this day I am now replaying abunch of classics and only get in Pokeballs! I LOVE IT ALL! It just feels right! Great vid!
Gosh after recently hearing you can bring Mew up to current gen, it made me all nostalgic for when I got Mew from the Nintendo event on my red copy years back, which unfortunately I have no trace of where it is now having moved countries and all. Therefore, I've gone back to my 3ds and done this on a new red VC copy, and bought Silver and Crystal as well. Now watching this makes me want to do a full living dex but wow I did not realise how many gender variants there were, this is crazy! Great job.
I see most of people wanting to have pokémon from RGBY an GSC with the Icon, but prefer having the ribbons. All my Kanto Pokémon are from Fire Red, and all Johtoh Pokémon are from SoulSilver. That way I could afford having the most possible ribbons from pokémon in their own "hometown".
For the 10 eevees u could have just gotten another console with a gen 2 game on it and breed them there. Then trade them back to red and transfer them up.
Send Vaporeon to VC GSC and breed 9 eevees, and send them back to the Gen 1 game and transfer up from there. It'll still read that they came from Kanto and you don't have to play half the game 10 times
An interesting thing to keep in mind. If you trade a pokemon from Gen2 to Gen1, then transfer it to Bank, it will be trated as if it were caught in Kanto. I tested it out and it worked. This is useful for those Gen1 trade pokemon which cannot be obtained with your OT, like Mr. Mime. You get it in Gen1, send it over to Gen2, breed down one with your OT, then send it back to Gen1 before transferring it to Bank.
Catching them all in pokeballs is a nice challenge. Though when transferred up you'd see that all Pokémon are marked as being caught in pokeballs, even if you'd threw that Master Ball to Mewtwo it would still register as a pokeball once transfered to Pokémon Bank.
I’m glad I’m not the only one with this idea. Been working on the living Dex for a few years. It’s hard because I basically have to beat every single game to trade exclusives around 😂. But it’s fun. Only thing is catching the legendaries in Gen 1 poke balls is insane
As much as I don’t mind my Living Dex/ Shiny Pokémon being in quick balls/repeat balls I will say I did make an attempt to catch the 2nd Koraidon in a pokeballs (so it matches the one you have) and was super satisfying when I was finally able to
It's great to see someone else mad enough to make a living dex of every form/gender difference! I'm personally only missing the Furfrou varients and Pokeball pattern Vivillon. If you want more secondary living dexes to do, like me, I'm doing: 2 separate smaller dexes with only one out of each evolution line, one having all Hidden Abilities and the other IV Bred and in preferred balls/shiny where wanted. A full Japanese Living Dex with every possible gen 3 Pokemon in Japanese, including stuff like all the Unown Forms, newer evolutions, and having Champion Ribbons on every Pokemon from every Region possible. A set of every single in game trade I can get my hands on from every game. A Ditto from every single game I can catch them in because why not. A set of Mega Evolution Pokemon trained specifically for Mega Evolving, and another but for Gigantamaxing. All Hidden Grotto Pokemon, all Gift Pokemon, all Static Encounter Pokemon. A full set of Unown from each game you can catch them from. A Shiny Alcreamie for each sweet. A full Hisuian Alpha dex. All of Ns Pokemon and other similar special Pokemon, like every single Dream Radar Pokemon and gifts like the Demo Glalie. Every single mark, on any Pokemon, but from each game they're available in- All the marks of Galar being seperate from the Paldean marks. I have others too but not ones most people would do, like a box of Contest Teams.
Yeah it was something I gradually got into over time. I used to just have one of each Pokémon, then when it came time to put in hippopotas and frillish, I thought, “I kinda want each gender for these” then I decided if I was doing those I should just do all lol. As for the other dexes you mentioned. I actually do plan on doing a ribbon master quest at some point and I’m already doing a shiny alcremie quest lol. I’m already 21/63 for those shiny! I try to register all the moves and abilities but some moves pretty much require smeargle in earlier generations and I also never got a Pokémon with the event only move bestow! So maybe one day I’ll be able to get someone to trade me a Pokémon with it that I can sketch with a smeargle!
There's still doing what you're currently doing, but in other languages. (like a full mega evolution set in German. Or getting the gen 4 in game trades in Spanish, Hidden Grotto mons in French)
What's interesting about this whole poke/quick ball debate is that I'm probably one of the few fans who just use Pokeball, Great ball, and ultra balls. I understand each design are appealing depending on the person but I'm too simple to show off a Pokeball that I caught even if it's a shiny. Traded Pokemon are a different story since nowadays anyone would trade their Pokemon that show up in certain apricorn pokeballs.
Saw your most recent video from gen 6 and wanted to go back to the start. I did this as well a few years back! My priorities were slightly different though. The number 1 priority was it being glitchless. The second was my OT. Then comes region of origin, and finally pokeball (being base pokeball for non-shinies, and premier ball for shinies). I also only care about the variations that are visible (so the scatterbug variants for example are not something that would matter to me). I'm done...basically. I just need to encourage myself to find the time for a second playthrough of PLA lmao. I think you mentioned Mr. Mime in the video and I hope I didn't mis-remember but I think you didn't know of a way to get a Mr. Mime from Kanto with your OT, but it is possible. If you catch it in gen 2 VC in the wild and trade it back to gen 1 VC, and THEN transfer it forward it will have the tag as being from Kanto, but it will have your OT.
Porygon can breed in Gen 2 and its offspring be send back to Gen 1. Unless you're good at gambling you could grind for money through the Elite 4. Teaching your Mewtwo the move Pay Day could speed up that process.
As for the Eevees, you can send one to a Gen 2 game where you also can see the genders, breed it there, send them back to Gen 1, and then send them to Pokebank. That way they also still register as having come from Kanto.
@@ThedomiNATION Indeed. It's the only way to get them still on your name, registered as Kanto, and with no nickname (unless you decide it). The only nitpick in there is that their original trainer's ID number will that be from whatever GBA Gen 2 game you've send them back to Gen 1. But hey, I called it nick picking for a reason and frankly, as seemingly you didn't use Gen 2 at all in this video I conclude you did the only possible next best thing.
It's actually possible to get both Jynx and Mr.Mime with your own OT in HOME where it is registered as originating from Kanto. If you catch them both in gen 2 in GSC and trade it to RBY and then use poke transport, it will register as originating from Kanto even though it technically came from Johto.
You're gonna call me a psycho for this, but I did a similar concept with as many Shinies as legitimately possible. The only exceptions I made were the event exclusive Shinies which you obviously can't capture with a Poke Ball. What I basically did was play FR/LG, RS, japanese Emerald, Colo, DP, BW, XY, slight ORAS, USUM, SwSh, PLA, PoGo, and then ofc SV. I'm really glad I completed it because that amount of free time is not available to me anymore. For what it's worth, I played everything from gen 6+ on original hardware; the others were on PC because I needed a speed up button (especially Colosseum and the Unown hunt......). If you feel that's cheating, then that's tough, my fault lol. For me, I feel that so long as rom hacks aren't used, and it's via means that are available within the game itself, then that's fair game. Only exception I tend to allow is Mystery Gift events that are no longer available, but I personally only used this for event exclusive Mons and for things like Navel Rock. Last note I have is for Shiny Mew. I want to perform the glitch found in recent time that lets you warp to Faraway Island, as well as the Mew glitch in Red/Blue for the gen 2 IV shiny hunt. A lot of people have stigma on glitches, but so long as it isn't something akin to what BDSP's monstrosity of egg glitches accomplish, then I firmly believe that's apart of the game. If the developers aren't going to fix it before it releases, then that's on them, not us. It's okay to meet stricter deadlines, but you gotta be prepared for the cause effect in this situation. I said some takes that a lot of you will disagree with, and I just wanna say that arguing on this is pointless. Share your opinion, cool, but let's not be negative about it
Not to burst your bubble, but you could have caught all the Pokemon in the Safari Zone with Pokeballs. Remember the Missingno Glitch? That area where you surf to get Missingno, it duplicates the Pokemon of the last route you were on. So with Fly, you can access the Pokemon in the Safari Zone and be able to catch them with Pokeballs.
No bubbles burst! I’ve gotten a bunch of comments regarding that. But as I stated in the video, the balls in gen 1/2 all get converted into regular pokeballs anyway once sent into bank. So I could’ve just caught everything in master balls and it wouldn’t have made much of a difference for this gen lol
I’m deeply and terribly sorry to tell you this: it is technically possible to catch all the safari zone Pokémon in Red and Blue. If you go to the area you want, walk until you run out of time, then fly to Cinnabar and surf up and down the same coast you use for the MissingNo. glitch and you’ll encounter safari zone Pokémon.
I’ve been told many times in the comments lol. I did say in the video it doesn’t matter though as all gen 1 and 2 Pokémon are put in pokeballs once sent up anyway
If you wanted to actually catch everything in PokeBalls you could have used the Cinnabar Island coast to catch all of the Safari Pokemon (excluding fishing exclusives) by flying out of the Safari Zone to Viridian and doing the old man glitch.
I finished a living dex (as well as Move and Ability Dex) with all mons from their original regions, all in mostly regular pokéballs (f*ck cherish balls), all forms and gender differences that can be in Bank/Home and I must say even tho it was really painful at times, it was still a lot of fun Edit: Just a tip, if you want to have all your mons with pretty, lower cap names, then you should rename all your gen 3 and 4 mons. Bank makes the names of the virtual console pokémon be lower caps by default, but transferring gen 3 and 4 mons to gen 5 doesn't. Learned it the hard way
I tried to do all the moves and abilities earlier but I needed to play through black 2/white 2 with a smeargle to get kyurems signature moves. Also I never got a Pokémon with bestow 😭. As for the capital names. I sent my mime jr from gen 4 into bank and home and the name has been corrected without me doing anything! I know if you use other language games it won’t fix them though!
Just save before picking eevee up, once you pick it up, check its attack stat! If it has a 32 attack, it’ll be female! Just soft reset until it has 32 as its attack!
One month ago I started to do the same. But I startet with the Alolan Games because these are my favorites. And I just dislike the rule of for example catching a pikachu in red and then evolving it in Alola for Alolan Raichu. I think it's unsatisfying if the Pokémon in the same category have different region markers. So that's the one thing I will do my way :)
While it‘s certainly nice to do this as a challenge: when you transport Pokemon from Gen 1-2 Virtual Console to Bank / Home, they‘ll always be in a regular Pokeball!
Cheesed the rare candies when leveling up is the hardest part of this challenge, but whoa whoa whoa wait hold up-cheesing master balls would just be too over the top
Dang I just finished my gen 1 shiny dex literally 3 days ago and now you’re making me want to go back and get them in pokeballs. (I’m not doing the native games part… yet)
Excellent video! I wasn't very eager to do that glitch mew, because the event was lvl 5 and you encounter it at lvl 7, so it doesn't match., but then I find out you can reduce his level by using growl twice against the last pokemon before mew.
I don’t believe the game keeps track of what level it was obtained once you send it up. Plus if you just level it up a few times after level 5, it would still be the event mew but set to a higher level than 5 anyway
Sure, is completely fine if you leave it that way. Also, do you know if the event mew was able to be shiny without the glitch? I saw over austinjohnplays that you can make it shiny with the glitch, but I don't know if it can be otherwise?
@@manuelvargas5583 I would assume the actual event one probably could be shiny, as it was probably given a random set of DVs. Plus if it was fixed to never be shiny, then I would assume bank would flag shiny mew sent from red and blue
pretty awesome dude, im doing the same sort of thing just as long as they're from their original region, so which gen to me doesnt matter, not sure i could do that on top so count me impressed
Hey I don't know if you still read comments for this video but you've been a huge inspiration for me starting this as well and I recently just finished my Kanto dex! Though I don't remember if it was from this video or the gen 2 video but I remember you doing some trick to get a non nicknamed Mr Mime and Jynx in Gen 1 with your OT I think? But I can't find that in the video. Either way love the series man thank you.
Gen 2 and Gen 4 catching every Pokémon in theses games BUT! You can only use Kurt's Kustom balls lol Interms of gen2 Crystal is recommended because Kurt will make up to 99 balls, however in Gold and Silver it's 1 per day... in Gen4 Heart Gold and Soul Silver Kurt can make up to 999 balls ...
That would be tough! Unfortunately gen 2 doesn’t save ball data either so they will always say they were caught in pokeballs and for gen 4 they never coded apricorn balls into the sinnoh games so there’s a lot you wouldn’t be able to catch from gen 4 in them 😔
You can catch Safari Zone Pokémon using the Cinnabar glitch. The encounter table is the last encounter area you were in. So if you went to Safari Zone areas then let the steps run out and go to Cinnabar you could catch them all with poke balls.
I’ll only go for forms that can be permanent in home. Shaymin used to revert back but since BDSP and Legends Arceus became compatible, it does not revert anymore so I will need to get 2 shaymin
Great video! Do you have a list or spreadsheet you can share that lists all that you need to catch, considering the later gen evolutions and gender differences?
I do not. I just used the Pokédex from Pokémon go and simply remembered all the gender differences and form changes. I originally used Bulbapedia to look at gender differences and regional variants though!
It’s a fun challenge! I finished 1, and have like 3 left for Gen 2. Gen 3 is complete but I have to migrate them to Gen 4, which will take a long time. I’m going to redo Sinnoh with Platinum. Since right now I have the full living Sinnoh Dex from BDSP as a placeholder
They’re the same species but just different forms essentially. So like a hisuian voltorb, even though was introduced in gen 8, it still is a voltorb and shares the same Dex number as the Kanto voltorb!

Not that it matters, as VC pokemon of gen1 and gen2 always show a pokeball in home. So you can use whatever ball is easiest...

I started off just getting 1 but decided after I was halfway to go back and do all the forms too
Such a great video! It was really fun to watch this live as well, looking forward to the next dex sets 🎉
30:16 I did not know that after breeding a whole box of Hisuian Zoroatk
I think my favorite part is this is how I've played since missing my first master ball in gen 1 pokeballs only
I'm glad to see a few comments as well as the video's creator showing I am not the only person crazy enough to insist on using pokéballs only.
I'm working on a premier ball region of origin living dex right now. Just finished Gen 7
This is essentially how my living dex is formatted. Very cool!
The best way to do it!
When I was a kid I would only catch Pokémon in poke balls because it bothered me when my full team of six didn’t match balls
That's such an insane amount of work. Thank you for all the effort you put in.
Such a cool concept, and the fact that you’re doing is with only pokeballs is insane, good luck completing this challenge and great video 👍
I've been working on this for months at this point, maybe even a couple of years, and I completed most of Gen 1 and 2... then my console was stolen and I had to start again, and I just can't bring myself to pick up and play Gen 1 willingly. Massive respect for being able to do this!
Yeah gen 1 can be tough. But now I’ve played through so many times it’s become way easier for me at this point lol
Yep! I already addressed this in my gen 2 Living Dex video
You can trade as soon as you obtain the Pokedex in RBY. Or if you got the timing right, there is a glitch that allow you to get all three starter
I’ve always been obsessed w only using pokeballs
I’m gonna go through my Pokémon home and figure out which ones are not in Pokéballs and catching a new version in a pokeball
Great job.
I love the PokeSnap music in the background of the intro
I'm also doing a living dex. So far, I only have Sinnoh and Hisui done with Paldea (pre-DLC) ready to go for when Home compatibility finally drops.
Oh. Just so we're clear, you did realize later on that you could've waited until Legends Arceus to evolve the Kadabras, yes?
Omg I’m glad I rewatched this. I totally forgot to grab a pikachu for alolan raichu
That would be hard to do with every Pokémon though! I do plan to do a ribbon master Quest with a Pokémon at some point though!
@@ThedomiNATION Yes... That's why I only did it with my Pokémon team and, at least 5 to 10 favorite of every gen
That is an option but honestly the Brock through walls glitch was pretty quick as well lol
I love this series. I listen to it while I'm going for my living dex. Can't wait for gen 4!
Good luck on yours! I’m currently working on gen 4! Getting most of them live on my twitch!
You can leave the safari zone, fly to Cinnibar, and surf on the coast to encounter the Safari Zone pokémon in normal battles
The tip about giving an everstone to a regional variant was helpfull
Great video! I've also completed my living dex in 2022. But I've used missigno glitch to catch all the "variants" that i needed 😂
I address this in the Gen 2 part!
This is exactly what I want to do
Catching them all in pokeballs is a nice challenge.
Though when transferred up you'd see that all Pokémon are marked as being caught in pokeballs, even if you'd threw that Master Ball to Mewtwo it would still register as a pokeball once transfered to Pokémon Bank.
Never mind. You've addressed this later on in your video.
It still stays a nice challenge to do.
I’m glad I’m not the only one with this idea. Been working on the living Dex for a few years. It’s hard because I basically have to beat every single game to trade exclusives around 😂. But it’s fun. Only thing is catching the legendaries in Gen 1 poke balls is insane
Yeah it definitely can be tough at time! Good luck on finishing yours !
As much as I don’t mind my Living Dex/ Shiny Pokémon being in quick balls/repeat balls I will say I did make an attempt to catch the 2nd Koraidon in a pokeballs (so it matches the one you have) and was super satisfying when I was finally able to
I'm doing this exact challenge for shinies only just I didn't use only Pokeballs. I only use normal, great, and ultra.
Good luck! It’s quite the challenge!
i catch all my pokemon in good old normal pokeballs !! even if i have to throw 300+ that legendary will be in a pokeball
There's a work around to catching the Safari pokemon in pokeballs, it includes the Cinnabar strip.
It's great to see someone else mad enough to make a living dex of every form/gender difference! I'm personally only missing the Furfrou varients and Pokeball pattern Vivillon. If you want more secondary living dexes to do, like me, I'm doing:
2 separate smaller dexes with only one out of each evolution line, one having all Hidden Abilities and the other IV Bred and in preferred balls/shiny where wanted.
You could have flown to Cinnibar and used the coat line to catch them with pokeballs. Though that would be silly and also glitching technically.
Quick balls and dusk balls are the best balls to use for shinies
They do look really cool! I also like heal and premier balls!
@ThedomiNATION that's definitely 100% true but beast balls for me are my absolute favourites
Just started this challenge a few days ago, minus variants. almost done with Gen 1
That is an option! Someone suggested I do that with jynx and Mr mime to get those as my OT!
Oh.
"Why?" was my first question. Lol thanks for getting that out of the way early-on. haha
Rewatching this and omg its nostalgic
I did exactly the same with all my pkmn across gens(the pikachu from FR into alola, scyther from kanto into kleavor, etc.)
It's actually possible to get both Jynx and Mr.Mime with your own OT in HOME where it is registered as originating from Kanto. If you catch them both in gen 2 in GSC and trade it to RBY and then use poke transport, it will register as originating from Kanto even though it technically came from Johto.
Yep I covered this in the Gen 2 Living Dex video
I have found 3 littens in one 30 min period and that’s the lukyest I’ve been without an out outbreak
"Catch every version of every Pokémon"
Bro, you're not ready for Spinda.
Spinda patterns don’t count as alternate forms. So I do not have to catch them. I might try to find a goofy looking pattern for mine though!
@@ThedomiNATION Good luck!
Now this is a fun concept, I‘d actually love doing this as well.
Very true. And it's still a massive achievement.
I finished a living dex (as well as Move and Ability Dex) with all mons from their original regions, all in mostly regular pokéballs (f*ck cherish balls), all forms and gender differences that can be in Bank/Home and I must say even tho it was really painful at times, it was still a lot of fun
Edit: Just a tip, if you want to have all your mons with pretty, lower cap names, then you should rename all your gen 3 and 4 mons.
"These Pokémon are Mr. Mime and Jynx"
Mew Glitch go brrr.
I can’t believe I actually didn’t think to do that lol
When we’re you planning on doing gen 2? I love this series concept!
Probably relatively soon but gen 1 took me a while so I need a bit of a break from catching Pokémon and playing through old games lol
I'm working on this challenge as well! I just can't figure out how to get a female Eevee.. 😭
All good! I love seeing all the different ways people go about a living Dex! Good luck on yours!
You could have done the cinnabar Island trick to get the Safari Pokemon to appear outside of the Safari zone and use pokeballs on them there
While it‘s certainly nice to do this as a challenge: when you transport Pokemon from Gen 1-2 Virtual Console to Bank / Home, they‘ll always be in a regular Pokeball!
I addressed this in the video lol
Cheesed the rare candies when leveling up is the hardest part of this challenge, but whoa whoa whoa wait hold up-cheesing master balls would just be too over the top
Hey I can’t say I’m using pokeballs only if I’m using master balls only 😂
@@ThedomiNATION I’m messing with you 🤪
Dang I just finished my gen 1 shiny dex literally 3 days ago and now you’re making me want to go back and get them in pokeballs. (I’m not doing the native games part… yet)
Why don't you use the 8F glitch to get legitimate shinies?
One day you’ll want to do it in the native games as I once have lol
@@keokozonaioni9738 8F is not legit shinies, they are legal but not legit
@@krookodilegang6192 Thanks for the clear up. I think it's a good way to get gen 1 shinies easily without wasting months worth of time.
Now this is the kind of content I've been looking for
Here just to say.. HOMEBREW YOUR 3DS! thank you for coming to my TED talk!
pretty awesome dude, im doing the same sort of thing just as long as they're from their original region, so which gen to me doesnt matter, not sure i could do that on top so count me impressed
U could have used master balls on all the wild Pokémon as when they transfer from these games they will default to a pokeball. Same with gen 2
I take it you didn’t watch the whole video? lol
I do still read the comments! Congrats on your living Dex! The trick to get Mr. Mime and Jynx with my OT happens in the gen 2 video for this series!
tysm, i didn't know about the pokemon transporter thing
No problem!
Gen 2 and Gen 4 catching every Pokémon in theses games BUT! You can only use Kurt's Kustom balls lol
Interms of gen2 Crystal is recommended because Kurt will make up to 99 balls, however in Gold and Silver it's 1 per day... in Gen4 Heart Gold and Soul Silver Kurt can make up to 999 balls ...
That would be tough! Unfortunately gen 2 doesn’t save ball data either so they will always say they were caught in pokeballs and for gen 4 they never coded apricorn balls into the sinnoh games so there’s a lot you wouldn’t be able to catch from gen 4 in them 😔
@@ThedomiNATION fair enough just thought you needed another challenge 😅
You can catch Safari Zone Pokémon using the Cinnabar glitch. The encounter table is the last encounter area you were in. So if you went to Safari Zone areas then let the steps run out and go to Cinnabar you could catch them all with poke balls.
Unfortunately it doesn’t matter too much as they all say they’re caught in pokeballs regardless lol
@@ThedomiNATION true but you know. You always know 🤣
Awesome work. I love the idea! Thank you for a fun video=)! There is already gen 2 and 3 videos, so I'll have a great time, I know it=3
I have a question.
How would the origin forms work? If you move them to Pokémon home they revert back to their regular forms?
I’ll only go for forms that can be permanent in home. Shaymin used to revert back but since BDSP and Legends Arceus became compatible, it does not revert anymore so I will need to get 2 shaymin
Great video! Do you have a list or spreadsheet you can share that lists all that you need to catch, considering the later gen evolutions and gender differences?
I do not. I just used the Pokédex from Pokémon go and simply remembered all the gender differences and form changes. I originally used Bulbapedia to look at gender differences and regional variants though!
I'm actually working on this too! (Minus the Pokeball). Getting every Pokemon in their original gen just feels right. I only just finished Gen 1.
Good luck!
Bit nooby, but how are regional forms classed as gen 1?
They’re the same species but just different forms essentially. So like a hisuian voltorb, even though was introduced in gen 8, it still is a voltorb and shares the same Dex number as the Kanto voltorb!
This actually helped me find the eevee in firered
