You must be made up with the way Bear is coming along. This season will really crown him. I've it all to look forward to in Spring with a new pup to start 🐾🐾
I was wondering last year if he was just going to be a pet as while he loved to retrieve, he wouldn't touch feathers. He's going to make the Grade I reckon. He's still not at Ted level yet! What type of pup are you going to get?
@@UlsterOutdoorsandFieldsports Another Lab for certain. My old dog Dash is 11 and the young one Reuben is 5. I'd love to get a pup off Reuben but the trial men want their own lines and men with good working bitches don't always want litters when you need them! I'll most likely end up buying.
great shooting, do you mind if i ask you what chokes size and cartridge type you were using. this is my first season duck hunting and looking for all the advice i can find
I'm not sure where you are based, but hopefully this advice will prove useful. I shoot with a half choke. I must use steel shot so I use RC CAMOUFLAGE HYPERFAST 34g or GAMEBORE MAMMOTH 36g 3" steel loads. Both No.3 shot. What is way more important though is to have a gun you shoot well with. Practise on clays until you are shooting is reliably consistent.
Then you're in the lucky situation you can still use lead - 36g of No.5 shot is hard to beat for the ducks. Again, half and half or half and three quarters. Personally I'd rather miss them clean or kill them. I don't like wounding. Hope you get a duck or 2 this season.
@@UlsterOutdoorsandFieldsports I shoot in NZ where we have to shoot steel. I now prefer steel to lead and shoot a 35gm load of No.4 shot in 2 3/4 cases, most importantly doing 1450 fps. It groups well and kills well even on ducks flying away especially if you use the wad stripping chokes from the US. If using standard chokes I shoot 1/4 or 1/2 depending on the range.
@@stevehugo3133 Very interested Steve. I have learned not to fear steel but am still using 3" high performance loads. I've heard of the wad stripping chokes - can I ask what effect they have on cartridge performance? Do they open up the pattern. I generally use factory half chokes.
Many thanks. I do make the sticks that I use. I have sold some - If you are interested I could certainly sell some. I make a range of styles of sticks - I'll maybe make a short video of the ones I make for anyone who is interested. Thanks for the interest.
Cheers Matt! The camera makes them look like they were in the next county!! Most were around the 40 yard Mark. The two shoveler were probably closer to 30. The single mallard drake was about 50 yards. Thanks for the reply 👍
@@UlsterOutdoorsandFieldsports We get quite a few down here for some reason. A pair of gadwall was a first foe me last year. Too many moons ago a pair of duck caught me by surprise and I shot one of them to discover a drake pintail in full plumage. To this day I regret not sending it to the taxidermist if I ever get another I wont make the same mistake

I look forward to your videos all the time! Another brilliant vid
Much appreciated David. 👍
Enjoy your video
That shaped stick is a great idea for many things. Do you make them for private sale ?
