After visiting the Apple Store and getting a quote of $430, I took it (ibook) home and used an Alan-wrench and a small Philips screw driver and took the screen apart. Apparently what had happened is the wires that go from the mother-board to the back of the screen had simply become disconnected. So I simply plugged it back in and the desktop appeared. No more white screen. I put it all back together and it works fine. I should go put an application into the Apple store so I can be a genius too.
It is a 14 inch iBook G4. Apple ended up replacing the logic board (after a long process since I am out of the country) and that has fixed the problem. It works like new now. Thank you to clarke1ismad for the suggestion.
Thanks for the tip. Hopefully I can get Apple to agree to fix that. They have already replaced the screen once.
