This is truly great and if I may add, although it's not exactly the same, but my teacher, when she notices I'm struggling with a piece or whenever I start learning a new one, she always has me "sing" it without playing it on the flute. Like read and gradually sing it faster and faster until I get to the needed tempo and without getting any wrong notes. It is really helpful for beginners like me who've only played for like 3-4 years (at least I find it helpful). I will try those other finger technique exercises. What I've done on my own is just "play" some pieces or just scales/etudes without sound. Also helps and for people with small kids like me it's a blessing because you can practice at night :)
The first finger exercise is applicable to other wind instruments as well as the piano. In my youth, I would do finger movements for flute and piano at my school desk, when I didn't need to take notes.
This is so Great! I am seeing this idea everywhere lately, and yours is the most practical explanation. For example: What should I specifically THINK about during this imagining? You made it very clear. So helpful. I put a one minute Imagine spot on my Timer, followed by 6 minutes of then actually Practicing that skill or measure from my etude or piece. THANK YOU!
I need help with my playing for the flute. It is a little hard to explain so here it goes. The notes from second octive D to second octive Bb sound airy when I play. All the rest of my notes are fine. I also have this problem where I am airy at the start of a song then a few measures in I become more clear. Sometimes a play a note and the start of the note is very airy then it becomes clear. This makes it hard to play music. Sorry if this is a little long.

I do this all the time. I play through my pieces in my head 😂
