Keep it up bud, it will get better, its worth it for the benefits. I am on 17 months of no smoking now. The longer you go the better it gets, then your mind and body won't need it. I have just come out of hospital from a mild stroke, and with a CAT scan they have found I have a brain aneurysm. My diet has had a total change as well now, so got to adjust again. We got to soldier on I suppose, stay strong for the ones we love around us. That's all that matters in the end. All the best.
Gaz, you were a military man. remember your training, discipline, and fortitude, carry on regardless no matter how tough it gets. You're in a war. Just fight the battles. That's how you win. ❤
This is such a stupid comment. Willpower doesn't conquer alcoholism, if it did no one would be one. The ignorance around addiction by people who have never experienced it is baffling. I know many people in AA who were "ex military". Until they got to the root cause of their addiction you wont have the solution. Hi Gareth, you are looking better and healthier…. Things will get better. The craving is so hard, and you’re right, alcohol is everywhere. God bless you, keep strong, it is very difficult, but absolutely worth it.
You actually inspired me to stop drinking. I used to think it's only a problem if ones an addict but through you I realised there's more to it than that. I'm 6 weeks in and feel great! Please keep it up
@JustAlex848 it's great having no hang over, people always ask if I feel I'm missing out. I say no...I've gained freedom. I now have the freedom to do whatever I want tomorrow as I won't have a hangover to stop me. I now engage in lots of hobbies and finding new hobbies
Stay strong Gareth. You're looking in good shape! You're on the right track. Your health comes first to ensure you're still around to enjoy your family life together. Sending you all good wishes 🙏 👍

...nice one for the marching viking trance sound track lol... thanks for the update, all the best to you... the thing you said about not evey weekend having to be a party in a previous vid. hit home with me, those days are gone aren't they for us 'oldies' ! ...
I understand you , but you may not be able to AVOID seeing the devils piss , because temptation is everywhere. But remember you have the power to AVOID giving in to the temptation .Well done on your journey so far.Stay strong live long.
These are physical cravings. They gradually become less frequent & ease. Temptation = "Stinking Thinking"...You are doing amazing. (PS The sugar cravings are also physical from sudden change in glucose levels.. they also pass.. much less harmful to have some biscuits for these)
Develop some new weekend routines to replace all the drinking. My dad was a recovered alcoholic, a wonderful brilliant man. He went to AA and made wonderful life long friends there. We would all go to the “club” on the weekends to hang out, play pool, laugh with friends, have a great time. They always had vats of hot coffee and soft drinks to enjoy
I know it's not the same but spicy food, which I know you love releases all kinds of endorphins. It could help when you get those cravings, reach for something spicy instead. As someone also posted about ginger I thought I'd mention it, gingery, spicy, peppery stuff may help. Keep it up mate, you are doing brilliant!
You, believe it or not, are such an inspiration, boy! Went from falling down a hill (obviously realize lot preceded that) smashing your face and nearly losing your family, to...walking on a fucking treadmill feeling great. C'mon. So much respect for you. STAY STRONG. The reward is worth it, buddy. Following you regardless. Much support. Newfoundland, Canada.
It’s the physical action around addiction that can be the hardest to break. Like smoking, the lifting of the cig, inhale etc.. The ritual, that’s the swine to master…..and you are mastering it, that is to your credit Gareth. Doing something in place of the old ritual is key, you are doing that too. Replacing old for new, you body and you mind will get more and more attuned to the new. Good luck, be well and show yourself who’s boss! ✨🙂
Proud of you Gareth, you are a good man, putting your family first, I've no doubt it's really hard, but you are doing it, great stuff, love from Manchester xx
You have committed to yourself and your family to giving up the booze, just 'hold the line'. Your family & you are worth the effort you have made so maybe think of other things to do at weekends with your family. Well done, we are all behind you for success 😊
124 days Gaz, absolutely epic. Well done. As you say the temptation creeps in here and there, but it gets easier. If you ever get a particularly difficult urge, just think, ok, just not today, tomorrow is a new day and let's see how I feel. Come the next morning after you have slept it's not even on your mind at all.
Well done, Gareth. Don't give in to the temptation. It's a trick. A trap. Don't fall for it, man. It's a dying monster, screaming and kicking. Ignore it. Notice it, but don't react on it. You do not need that stuff. The desire will slowly fade away if you don't cling to it. Let it go. Find something else to fill its place. A cool hobby.Anything that get's you excited about. You'll find happiness without that stuff. Stay strong, man! Warm regards from Sweden.
You're doing great! It's hard to completely withdraw, you need to think about why you drank, if it was the taste you can get the no alcohol stuff, if it was to forget you can speak to your gp about therapy, if it was for the buzz you can do various things to still get that.
You're doing so well mate, and I can see the difference in you, I stopped regular drinking just under a year ago, I am now four stone lighter and feel a lot better within myself.
Glad to hear you’ve found a good coping mechanism for overcoming the times when you would have relaxed either alcohol. Coffee & choccy biscuits , nice combo. So pleased for you and for the support you have from family & friends. Even better to know your friends have found their reasons to give up too, support for one another helps you all. x
Just keep going Gaz you’re doing great I don’t think the cravings ever go away I found something to keep my mind off it brain games are quite good but find something that you can do at a moments notice 👍👍
I'm 8 months sober, the longest I've ever gone and let me tell you the urges get less. In fact now when I smell alcohol it turns my stomach slightly. Don't give up, it gets easier like the saying goes, time heals all.
your like the dad i never had, you are great man, my grandad served in the army and you remind me of him. carry on mate, we are all behind you. i wish alcohol was banned :(
Keep focused on distracting from old behaviour patterns and thoughts of when you use to drink. Look at how far you have come and keep going. One day at a time.
Good Evening, yeah your right weekends can be hard, we switched our Asda shop from Friday to Saturday morning, it sounds a bit sad but it helps to fill the morning in and on a Saturday night we watch something on the telly that we missed through the week and always try and get out on a Sunday either in the car or have a good walk somewhere. Back in the old days it was a good night out in Barrow but your missing nothing now. Getting out walking sorts me out big time and it helps to walk any cravings you’ve indulged in off and it’s amazing how many are out doing the same I’ve now made a few walking buddies. Well done with keeping off the booze and keep doing your vlogs and food videos they are always at the top of my watch list, might see you out and about on one of your walks 👍🏻
Gareth you're doing brilliantly, and sharing is key. The cravings will eventually vanish and you've already created a mechanism, your coffee and couple of choccie biscuits activate the neurotransmitters that release the endorphins for the 'feel good' factor alcohol used to provide. You're looking extremely well now, sharp as a tack and should be proud of yourself. I know it's hard out and about, but do you really need to look over at that pub? Walk down that aisle? If it's avoidable then avoid and every little adjustment you make will make a big difference in the long term. I used to say this to myself a lot in the early days: "with alcohol it can be extremely hard and difficult to give up, but it is 1000 times easier to give in".... one day you'll find you'll be looking at maybe a shelf full of beer in a supermarket or an advert on the telly and you'll just say to yourself " yeah it's beer, but it's just not me anymore" 👊👊 sorry for the usual long winded comments. I write way too many thesis 😂😂😂
Keep going Gareth, you are doing really well. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It's just going to take time. I know it's easy for me to say but i'm the same with cakes and biscuits, i only weigh 9 stone but i eat far too many of them.
Hi Gareth, You done really well on the treadmill & you are doing really well with the no drinking good on you mate all of your organs including your heart are saying thank you because this way you will be alive, healthy and fit to when the time comes to walk your daughters down the aisle all the best 👍🙂
Keep the faith, Gareth. The hidden cravings will diminish with time. I quit fifty nine years ago. The binge drinking, the memory losses are long gone, and good riddance to them. You can do this, just be vigilant and use the support of your family. Remember this, there are far better things in life than what you can get from a bottle. Good luck, mate.
I’ve never got the taste for booze so I can’t really appreciate what it’s like but I applaud your efforts. My failings are anything made by Cadbury, Mr.Kipling, McVitie etc. I’m pre diabetic so I’m trying to cut them out.
@@horrowfide I remember the changes in the first few weeks. Once I noticed my sleep was improving it made it so much easier for me. That was 15 years ago. Well done to you. You've done a whole week. The most difficult week is behind you now. You're free.
Massive achievement mate already! Keep pushing and any temptation remember that morning you woke up and how you felt! You don’t drink remember that it’s just the addiction part of your brain trying to trick you!! We call it the beast part of the brain that is tricked into thinking you need alcohol as it is responsible for pleasures like food and sex, it’s confused to why you’re not giving it what it wants, it only cares for that instant pleasure it doesn’t care about your health or your family mate or the implications you’ve faced from alcohol, ibut you do and you don’t drink!!Keep going mate well done, things will get easier over time to the point you hate the stuff 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I'm cutting down mate, luckily I can resist the temptation and can moderate my intake. Alcohol is not the be all and end all, mental clarity and physical well being is more important especially when we're in our fifties and looking forward to living a good few more years for ourselves and more importantly our loved ones! Keep going Gaz, it'll become easier.
Gaz, you're doing so well and you look like you've shook off a few pounds over the course of time. Don't give in to temptation mate, you've come too far to turn back now. Everyone is behind you and as I've said before, you're helping others to give up the sauce. Be strong love. Lin
I've not had a drink is 26 years now. I do miss it especially around Christmas when I'm at parties. I'm usually the designated taxi for the night lol. I still have fun though. Not a party pooper lol. After the Doctor said quit drinking or Die I had no other choice really. I was not a big drinker but something in the drink was making me sick so stopped. I just have to watch my diet now. Keep up the great work in staying drink free. You are not alone. We are all with you to help support you in the years to come. Also hows the Diet going? You seem to be enjoying a little too much Iceland food lol. Don't blame you it's nice food.
Your doing Great Pal Strength , Courage and Positive Thinking Will keep you on the Right Track 👍🏼Aswell as your Supportive Family & Friends here YT and there the real world 👍🏼
Keep going. I am at 116 days. Been in Texas for three weeks. I struggled at the airports but got through. I don't have an issue currently going in the pub and having a sofa and lime.
Dont count the days mark it on calendar today but forget about it then .every time you count the days you are only going to remind yourself of the booze.seen you and your wife and how happy she was for you and the family that as got to be the only incentive you need .stick at it Gareth you can do it
You are doing marvelously. All respect to you. Just remember what alcohol did to you, and what you did when under the influence. It is not easy, by any means, but you seem to have the determination (plus the backing of a wonderful wife) to make this work. Take care Cheers Pat in New Jersey
You are aware of the temptation and the feeling of wanting a drink, it will never go away, so you are consciously making the decision everyday NOT to give in.... You will be fine!! 👏
In my experience the strong desire for having a drink (or ten) actually goes away after a while. Yes, thoughts kreep back in, now and then. But then I always realise that it's just not worth it. It is much easier to just say no, instead of going through that same shiddy cycle again and again and again and again and wasting your life away.
You’re doing well mate. Keep it up if you can. But it is everywhere we go and it’s in our faces.!! I’v recently got back on it but cut back on the amount I used to have which is good and stuck to my limit. I’m still having a drink but not going silly and I feel better than I did.👍
Fair play for sticking with it that long that’s really good. I found after a month or so of being off it i just had to cut down and find a balance. So I reduced it down to 2 beers fri/sat and sometimes sun but not more than that. I’ll leave it as late as possible so not tempted to just get on it. But I find slowly having the 2 beers scratches that itch and have now had the longest stretch of regularly being under the NHS weekly unit recommendation in over 20 years. So not great not terrible but didn’t want to let perfect be the enemy of good, it’s certainly about 80+% less than I used to drink.
You've got so many good things going on in life right now you don't need a beer or anything else. It's like having a Ferrari and covering it in cheap stickers. I stopped Saturday football betting while friends still talk to me about it and do it and for a few months I felt sick not doing it. I'd say 6 months in I lost the desire totally. Even turned down Vegas with friends.
i am 50 gaz and i said goodbye to alcohol years ago now but it was one hell of an effort to give it up forever. still sober it can be done & i admire you for your own path conquering it. keep going mate :)
Again mate, Fantastic job on your progress and I really appreciate your videos.I am glad you get the opportunity to watch sports or documentaries as opposed to some crud soaps or relationship programmes 😂😂.(Enough to put a beer to my lips)
@@Baldfoodieguylifestyle Always mate.We are close in age and have done similar work so I can relate to your experience with beer and just hope your Wife and children are enough of an incentive to keep it up 💯👍
I quit for 3 months early this year, the longest I'd been without in 20 years. It wasn't my health, or behavior -- it was the money. I had no money for bills. Credit cards maxed. So that's a powerful motivator, though not a positive one. Things I noticed: tomato juice with a couple of dashes of Worcester sauce and a squirt of lemon tastes pretty close to a bloody mary, and plain tonic water is almost like a gin and tonic. Not a beer drinker, obviously. Cider, yes, and Martinelli's sparkling (non-alcoholic) is very good. The point is, keeping the liquid intake up in pleasant ways.
Just keep going. You're doing brilliantly. Thing to do in supermarkets is don't walk down those isle and when you get near near go down another isle and find something to detract your mi d away from it.
You might be just craving carbs on a friday evening since you're used to having a few cans, which would explain why the chocolate satisfies the cravings! Now you just have to switch the chocolate with boiled brown rice and you're golden xD
I was like you gaz I just used to drink loads on a weekend not in the week I knew it was getting out of hand I didn't want to stop completely I just needed to learn my limit I just have 4 steady cans now and that's it I then get some nice food fair play to you though gaz keep it up the good work 👏

That's the plan!
Nice one pal 👍
You’re doing so well, you’re right it’s not easy but, 124 days is absolutely amazing. I bet your wife is so proud of you too. Take care.
Thank you so much!
Yeah we all have cravings but they do end up going away, you just have to be strong.
Yes all good ta.
Hi Gaz, All you need in your life is your family.
Good luck for the future and keep fighting my friend your a warrior
Thanks mate
Thanks pal and well done 👏
Your doing Great Pal Strength , Courage and Positive Thinking Will keep you on the Right Track 👍🏼Aswell as your Supportive Family & Friends here YT and there the real world 👍🏼
Much appreciated
It must be difficult walking past a pub, but keep persevering
Yes it's not too bad, but depends how I'm feeling at the time
Keep going. I am at 116 days. Been in Texas for three weeks. I struggled at the airports but got through. I don't have an issue currently going in the pub and having a sofa and lime.
Well done pal 👍 you too
You are doing grand lad. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. But your followers are wishing you well on your journey.
Thanks
Very unusual video, but still an interesting little talk. Gareth keeps coming up with new ideas!
Dont count the days mark it on calendar today but forget about it then .every time you count the days you are only going to remind yourself of the booze.seen you and your wife and how happy she was for you and the family that as got to be the only incentive you need .stick at it Gareth you can do it
@@johntims2416 i agree whit you.
You are doing marvelously. All respect to you. Just remember what alcohol did to you, and what you did when under the influence. It is not easy, by any means, but you seem to have the determination (plus the backing of a wonderful wife) to make this work. Take care Cheers Pat in New Jersey
Thanks Pat 👍
You are aware of the temptation and the feeling of wanting a drink, it will never go away, so you are consciously making the decision everyday NOT to give in.... You will be fine!! 👏
In my experience the strong desire for having a drink (or ten) actually goes away after a while. Yes, thoughts kreep back in, now and then. But then I always realise that it's just not worth it. It is much easier to just say no, instead of going through that same shiddy cycle again and again and again and again and wasting your life away.
@@christiankammer2379 Well done!!!
You’re doing well mate. Keep it up if you can. But it is everywhere we go and it’s in our faces.!! I’v recently got back on it but cut back on the amount I used to have which is good and stuck to my limit. I’m still having a drink but not going silly and I feel better than I did.👍
Keep it up
Hi Gareth, you are doing a great job there mate, keep it up and stay strong. You must have done half a mile while I've been watching you, Take care
Thanks 👍
A coffee and some chocolate biscuits sound perfect to me - and I still drink alcohol!
Merry Christmas mate
@@Baldfoodieguylifestyle and you mate hope you have a goodun. been an inspiration to many people here going by the comments keep it up
You've got so many good things going on in life right now you don't need a beer or anything else. It's like having a Ferrari and covering it in cheap stickers. I stopped Saturday football betting while friends still talk to me about it and do it and for a few months I felt sick not doing it. I'd say 6 months in I lost the desire totally. Even turned down Vegas with friends.
Jolly well done! You should be VERY proud of yourself 😊
Thanks kindly ☺️
i am 50 gaz and i said goodbye to alcohol years ago now but it was one hell of an effort to give it up forever. still sober it can be done & i admire you for your own path conquering it. keep going mate :)
Will do thank you
great update hang in there
I cant do it on my own, for long. Wish i could. I'm going AA. I know I'll be ok there. Well done to you 🎉
@Dottydolly123 yup whatever works for us. There's such a good network of support.
Good luck, you can do it.
@@Baldfoodieguylifestyle thank you. I just find it so hard 😪😪
Again mate, Fantastic job on your progress and I really appreciate your videos.I am glad you get the opportunity to watch sports or documentaries as opposed to some crud soaps or relationship programmes 😂😂.(Enough to put a beer to my lips)
Much appreciated!
@@Baldfoodieguylifestyle Always mate.We are close in age and have done similar work so I can relate to your experience with beer and just hope your Wife and children are enough of an incentive to keep it up 💯👍
You are doing great-keep going & well done 😉 x
Thank you!! 😊
Well take a look. Thank you
Nothing but respect for you, Gareth. ❤
Thanks Stevie
Just keep going. You're doing brilliantly.
Thing to do in supermarkets is don't walk down those isle and when you get near near go down another isle and find something to detract your mi d away from it.
Thanks for the tips!
God bless mate with you all the way on your journey ❤
Keep it up! Well done.
Thanks, will do!
You might be just craving carbs on a friday evening since you're used to having a few cans, which would explain why the chocolate satisfies the cravings! Now you just have to switch the chocolate with boiled brown rice and you're golden xD
I’m 7 months sober and tbh I still feel the urge for alcohol but at the moment I’m winning but I agree it’s so hard
Well done
Please…don’t give in. You are my inspiration. 🏴🇬🇧
I was like you gaz I just used to drink loads on a weekend not in the week I knew it was getting out of hand I didn't want to stop completely I just needed to learn my limit I just have 4 steady cans now and that's it I then get some nice food fair play to you though gaz keep it up the good work 👏
Gaz,i sometimes get a vision of you down Gloucestershire on holiday stone cold sober, entering the cheese rolling competition trying to justify to the mrs you ain't touched a drop.keep strong bro..
