  • The 4th Sunday of Advent invites us to reflect on the theme of peace, symbolised by the Angel’s Candle. This candle reminds us of the angelic proclamation to the shepherds: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of goodwill” (Luke 2:14). As Catholic men, this call to peace resonates deeply in a world often marked by turmoil and division.
Peace, as the angels proclaimed, is not simply the absence of conflict but the presence of Christ in our lives. St. Teresa of Ávila reminds us, “Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices.” This profound peace, grounded in trust in God, allows us to weather life’s storms with hope and courage.
In our families and communities, we are called to be peacemakers. Jesus himself taught, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9). As men, this might mean resolving conflicts with humility, supporting those in need, or simply being a calming presence amidst chaos.
St. Francis of Assisi’s prayer beautifully encapsulates this mission: “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope.” In these final days of Advent, let us strive to be instruments of peace, bringing the light of Christ into our homes and workplaces.
As we light the Angel’s Candle, let’s reflect: Are we creating an environment of peace in our lives? Are we extending goodwill to those around us, especially those who challenge us?
May the Prince of Peace, whose birth we eagerly await, fill our hearts and lives with His everlasting peace. Let us welcome Him with open hearts, ready to share His message of hope and reconciliation with the world.
    A Friend Of OUR LADY
