Anson is so darn good at what he does! There is a difference between "playin' a blues" and "playin THE blues". Playin THE blues is something that has to be earned... and Anson walks the walk and has earned it. Fortunaltely, Sanborn has had (in his earlier years) a bunch of practical experience playing the real blues and no matter how much pop stuff he has done for a living.. you can hear the blues in his tone and he knows how. Muddy Waters said "Blues is tone". Anson can define blues tone!
I've been listening to Anson for years without being blown away but this slow blues is truly stunning. Such note selection & phrasing. fabulous strat tone too. Phew !!
I keep coming back to this clip. To me, this is some of the best blues guitar I have heard, ever. There is so much feeling and phrasing. David Sandborn is great, but it is Funderburgh´s show here, in my opinion.
Maybe it was something wrong with your ears. I'm glad Anson finally blew your earwax tho pieces! This is Anson as he has been since first time I've heard him 20 years ago, and it was livewise 5 years ago last time I heard him. Sadly Ansons companion Sam the Man has pased away. RIP
Awesome playing by Anson Funderburgh (one of my all-time favourites) and David Sanborn. At 2:20-2:21, is the organ sound being generated by someone playing a Keytar? :o It's hard to see...
Theres More to this Anson also plays with Boz skaggs and Sylvia on this same show , they play a Good version of .. Love is Strange.. Mickey baker and Sylvia song ive got this somewhere ???
Please do!! He's not the best bluesguitarist in the world, but he's mine favorite, regardless. Just love the clean, no nonsense sound... A tip if you don't know: Delbert McClinton's "So" album...sounds familiar??
Don't worry rhythm section. You can get all loose, play a swing shuffle too jazzy, drop the two and four, play double time on the slow blues, and all the other annoying things that jazz players do when they get bored of playing blues. Anson will keep the song in the pocket for you. :-)
Yeah, the backing was way to "slick" and "showy" for the blues ... but give credit to Sanborn for tapping Anson for his program. He saw the talent! Anson is amazing!
Pretty obvious to me that Anson was a little nervous here and flubbed more than a few notes. RARE for him, but this was N.Y. Jazz televison and he's a very laid back guy. He made his impression though with some scorching lines. The best!
The space between the notes. Both David and Ansons timing is bang on. Wonderful playing.
Anson is great, I love that man. Nothing but a joy!
Beautiful phrasing ! Just nails it every time . Must surely be one of the finest blues players ever .

Anson is the man, a great friend and musician. So humble and kind. But he will out golf you haha

Just beautious. Anson and David Sanborn pair together nicely. Anson's music just flows on this.
What a fantastic jazzy blues .
This is the bluesy breathing. So cool .

This is the soundtrack to my life. Even when I'm not listening to it it's playing in my head - Anson, maan !
Wow!
Some of Anson's very best here!
Anson is always the best
You're hearing BB filtered through either of them. I love the way both do it. Funderburgh is a phenomenal!
Anson Funderburgh is just AWESOME!
One of the best, and a great guy to be around!
Anson's the man..no jazz guy could play the real stuff like that.
Anson is a jazz guy. He is amazing! Humble as can be too
SENSATIONAL!!! Now that's the blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU 4 POSTING, I MISSED THIS ONE.

Beautiful, just beautiful....
I once read Mike Judge was a childhood friend and Beavis was inspried by Anson.
SF sounds great on this. Very sweet. Such relaxed tone and dynamics.

Can't tell, but Sanborn often had Philipe Sasse playing keyboards as part of the house band...

Anson did, but he is too humble to talk it up. Great guy to talk to and be around
So goood! Tack Bluesswde!/M
Great! Never heard him before, but sounds a little bit like Mike Bloomfield.
Too cool....
Nice!

Hi PinballsMachineGun , I think it's a silverface Super Reverb Amp.
Cool struttin

Wow! Let the instruments cool down man. That was Hot!
It's David Sandborn.
Sounds a whole lot like Stevie.
Who is the Sax player? I know he is famous....Just cant remember his name.

If you don't this, I don't like you!
But isn´t this sound Ronnie Earl?
SuperCrackerjacks Nope! He's Anson Funderburgh!
