Technically veins do supply blood. They supply the heart with the deoxygenated blood. The arteries supply the body with oxygenated blood, but I'm sure someone will say something about the carotid artery.

It takes some amount of bravery to attach a fairly large, toothy, blood sucking animal to your neck, and though there may have been help nearby and such he is still risking his life if things go wrong.
