I need to do community service for my honors program at school and this is so perfect. My schedule is weird and inconsistent so it's great to be able to volunteer in whatever time I have.
Nancy what an awesome idea!! Thanks so much for sharing! I have a 4 year old granddaughter who is autistic. I’m going to make her one of these. Thanks again!! You are awesome!
Thrift stores would be a great place to find different fabrics. Bedding, curtains, clothing. My daughter teaches special needs. I am going to make some of these for her class room Thanks for this vedio.
After watching this video, I want to make some of these. I looked on pinterest for a minute and found lots of examples. That lead to a question: Is there a point at which the additions would be less helpful? Some of the ones shown were embellished a lot. I was drawn to the use of textural contrast primarily.
My county extension group (CEOS in WV) made something like this for older people with memory issues in senior homes in our area. I like your ideas for different textures. Thank you for this great video! I had a twin brother with Autism although no one knew anything about this when we were growing up. I’m so glad to hear about groups that are providing for special needs kids. God bless these organizations and you for making this video. 🥰🙏🙏🥰
Margaret La Huis Lap size, which would vary if infant, child or adult. For infants maybe the size of a receiving blanket or smaller. For kids and adults, about 24-36” Wide by 18-20” long. Put a fat quarter on your lap (18x22) and see how those measurements work. There’s no hard and fast rule. Use what you have. My group used Minky/Cuddle on the back and a patchwork of different colors and textures on the front. Do a quick turn or add binding. Some people add different textures of ribbon (the kind for sewing clothes, not for wrapping packages), made into loops and sewn into the edges. One more “feely” idea. Kids like things they can manipulate like zippers, snaps, etc. For infants just the ribbon loops.
Thank you for the video! I have a 4yo grandson with Autism. I am going to make him a blanket using some of your ideas. Thank you! Would love to make the puzzle piece blanket for him.
These are Great.... Consignment/ thrift shop would be great way to get some different fabrics too bedspreads, cocktail dresses etc etc Thank you Nancy yours are rockin.
What wonderful ideas to incorporate. I found a stretchy dress at Goodwill 2 weeks ago that is ribbed like the white piece you sewed although it doesn't have the second fold. I'll have to decide whether to sew it one more time when I start my first blanket today. I have everything laid out and ready 🤗 Thanks for the inspiration Nancy!
Fantastic project and very thoughtful of you I’m sure they are most appreciative. These would also be great for babies as floor blankets or tiny 12” ones just to play with in their strollers or baby car seat. Great idea with many purposes. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Colleen, thank you for joining the Designer Level membership! Please send me your email so that I will be able to send you the ZOOM link for the next EQ Training session that will be the 29th of January. QuiltingWithNancy@Gmail.com
Nancy, I just wrote to my daughter cuz her daughter wearing sweats with that kind of changing colour, the one that you like ++. When it comes too small, we have a good piece of it. Maybe the idea can helps ladies?
First of all, I just love your blouse. Also love the idea of your projects. I would sew 2 ribbons on it too so they can learn to make a tie and sew a few bells on it as well. Just a thought.
Who do I make for first one of three grandchildren on the autism spectrum, my rother who needs something as he keeps breaking rubi cubes to satisfy his fidgets or the new baby nearly 2 months old. Our church sisters are having a fidget blanket making session next Thursday and I have been educating myself on such things. Many ideas rumbling around my brain. Thanks for some great ideas, I like the chenille squares and the (oh can't remember) The one that is pleated and then sewed backwards. Gee I'll be needing one soon perhaps I should make one for me first. Hooroo from West Aussie.
Thank you for this video. I hope it's ok to share the link to this video with our newsletter. We have volunteers making these mats for our non-profit organization and we wanted them to see your fabulous ideas.

Hi Mary, I'm sorry but no. The EQ sessions are available only to those that are members at the time - now having said that, we have only don't one class so you wouldn't be missing much :)

That’s why I’m here! My grandson is 4, nearly non-verbal. He’s just starting to like blankets.

Thank you, Nancy, for making this segment! We can't wait to see all the sensory quilts we receive for our students!

I haven’t been able to determine the size of these quilts. Could someone give me the preferred size? Thank you!

I bet that searching Salvation Army and Goodwill stores will result in finding a variety of textures and fabrics from clothing items.
Great Idea!

Hi from South Aussie
Hello there!
how very cool, my grandson is four and has autism, and we just moved to Grand Rapids, and I'm a quilter looking for a guild!
Hi Joan, I'm glad you liked the video. In our area you can look at the West Michigan Quilters Guild - this is the guild I belong to :)

@@QuiltingWithNancy thank you! I am looking forward to joining. Just got a new knee, and still unpacking! But soon!
Hi. Where can I find your working mini table you used to display your awesome quilts?
I found that at our local department store. It has adjustable legs which really helps.
Thanks I need to find one.

Have fun!
chips and chocolate wrappers seems to work for the noice paper
The fabric with the faces is also great because autistic children can have a hard time with emotion recognition.
Is having a handle that isn't elastic a good idea? The concerns may be that a child's head could fit through and cause issues. Just a thought.
wedding prom dress es for the fabric
If they can hold up to be washed in hot water they would be good :)
Some of these fabrics could be picked up in thrift store clothing
Yep
Did you put batting in yours?
no, i did not
Maybe have one inches instead of 2 inches of width: a little more easy for small kids and for the teacher, a less noise!!!
Nancy if I join the Designer portion of your program now will I be able to access the classes that you've already done?
Thank you.

no need to buy crinkly stuff - just use empty spagetti packets - chip packets and the like.
