  • The Huguenot monument in Franschhoek - in honour of the French immigrants, who founded the village in 1688. In France persecuted for their protestant-calvinistic belief, they found a new home here at the Cape - and excelled particularly in wine-making. In the Huguenot Memorial Museum next to the monument the history of the Huguenots at the Cape is documented.
The pretty town of Franschhoek is very conscious of its French roots. French names everywhere. Particularly popular is the Main Road with many boutiques, art galleries, fine Restaurants with French cuisine and Cafés. A town in the Winelands not to be missed.
