বাংলা ভাষা ও সংস্কৃতি কি আগ্রাসী? | Tribes of Bengal - Santal | Bengali Folk Culture & Music

Is language and culture actually aggressive? No matter where it is in the world, Bengal is no exception. We visited Purulia's Garh Jaipur and saw it hands-on. We were allowed inside the Hansda family, stayed back there for two days. Talks held at that time only.
It is obvious that Hansda(s) are Santal, their surname depicts that enough. Yes, the Santal family, meaning they are tribal in ethnic and social identity. This generation of this family has been practicing music, singing and acting for a long time. And they do farming as well. Just singing hardly fills the stomach in this poor part of the country. But still, they tried their best to keep the music of life going.
Now the question is, what did they sing, what instrument did they play as the tribal artists of Bengal? They basically sang Bengali folk music- Baul, Bhatiali, etc. and that is what they had to sing without any choice. In fact, the Hansda family has been baptized according to Baul customaries, otherwise one of the Gurus of Bengali folk culture disagreed to even eat at their house.
Anyway, all this is a bit past now. The situation has changed. Ms. Chapala Hansda, one of the main singers of the family, has told us that she will no longer sing Bengali songs. She will now sing only Santal songs and try her best to keep the endangered Santal culture alive.
Now, we want to raise this important fact of Chapala’s protest against the cultural aggression of Bengali, and we all should keep a note of that being careful as well. Watch rest in the video.
ভাষা ও সংস্কৃতি কি আগ্রাসী? সেটা পৃথিবীর যে প্রান্তেই হোক না কেন… বাংলার ক্ষেত্রেও তার ব্যতিক্রম মোটেই হয়নি। পুরুলিয়ার গড় জয়পুরে গিয়ে আমরা তা চাক্ষুষ করেছিলাম। পৌঁছেছিলাম হাঁসদা পরিবারের অন্দরে, থেকেছিলাম তাদের বাড়িতে দু’দিন। কথা হয়েছিল তাদের সাথে একপ্রস্থ।
হাঁসদারা যে সাঁওতাল তা আর বোধহয় বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না, পদবিতেই তার পরিচয় যথেষ্ট। হ্যাঁ, সাঁওতাল পরিবার, মানে নৃতাত্বিক ও সামাজিক পরিচয়ে তারা আদিবাসী। মূলত গান-বাজনার পরিবার, দীর্ঘদিন ধরে পরিবারের এই প্রজন্ম মূলত গান, অভিনয় এসবই করেছে এবং করে চলেছে। আর পাশাপাশি করেছে চাষাবাদ। শুধু গান গেয়ে আর ক’জনের পেট ভরে এই পোড়া দেশে? কিন্তু তবু আপ্রাণ চেষ্টা করেছে প্রাণের গান-বাজনাকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে।
এখন প্রশ্ন হল, তারা কি গান করেছে, কোন বাজনা বাজিয়েছে এই বাংলার আদিবাসী মানুষ হয়ে? তারা কিন্তু মূলত গেয়েছে বাংলা লোকসংগীত, মানে সেটাই গাইতে হয়েছে। অর্থাৎ, বাংলার সাঁওতাল শিল্পীরা গান-বাজনা করতে চাইলে তাদের শিখতে হয় বাংলা গান, মানুষকে শোনাতে হয় বাউল, ভাটিয়ালী ইত্যাদি। এক্ষেত্রে আবার হাঁসদা পরিবার বাউল মতে দীক্ষিতও হয়েছে, না হলে নাকি বাংলা লোকসংস্কৃতির ধারক বাহক কোন এক গুরু তাদের বাড়িতে অন্নগ্রহণও করবেন না, জানিয়েছেন।
যাই হোক, এসব এখন খানিকটা অতীত। পরিস্থিতি বদলেছে। হাঁসদা পরিবারের অন্যতম মূল গায়িকা চপলা আমাদের জানিয়েছে, সে আর বাংলা গান গাইবে না। সে এখন শুধু সাঁওতাল গানই গাইবে আর লুপ্তপ্রায় সাঁওতাল সংস্কৃতিকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখার আপ্রাণ চেষ্টা করবে।
আমাদের এক্ষেত্রে শুধু এটুকুই বলার, বাংলার সাংস্কৃতিক আগ্রাসনের বিরুদ্ধে চপলার যেভাবে প্রতিবাদ জানাচ্ছে সেটা খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ এবং সেটার সম্পর্কে আমাদের সচেতন হওয়া খুবই জরুরী। বাকিটা ভিডিওতে দেখুন।
