    Totally agree with the school stress point. As a high school student I come home after seven and a half hours and game for a couple (2-4 depending on homework). Gaming takes me away from the stress I have at school from my ap classes, and it makes me happy.
    Edit: Especially with friends.

      Well thin you should be fine, there talking about immense amount of gaming time. Playing 4 hours a day for a week is normal and only 28 hours. They are talking about people who are playing 80, 100, or beyond that a week.

      Andrew Chmielewski this would be right during school but now it’s summer and I game more with my friends because it’s one thing we can do in our town. Traveling this morning though.

      Gaming is totally fine, even if you play more than you do during the school year. But they are talking a overall steady and very high gaming time played. I mean, if your playing 80 Hours a week, thats a issue

      As a certified doctor who has graduated from the bullshit academy (just now!) I unfortunately have to diagnose you with H2O disorder Type 3. Now I don’t want you to freak out about this, you can still revert back to your normal self if you take care of yourself, just slow down on the water and take these random pills I just pulled out of my ass.

      JustPowzz Is one of the symptoms of game disorder shooting people irl? Bc they've tried to blame all shootings on videogames for years now, this seems like the natural progression.

    • @xxrocketshark216xx4
      @xxrocketshark216xx4 6 років тому +2

      JustPowzz Exactly. But old people just cant make the connection. They dont understand videogames and they dont wanna understand them. Im sure the same thing happened with movies when they were young, all the old people back then probably thought action movies caused violence. Heck, some people still so. People just cant seem to accept that sometimes there are just good eggs and bad eggs.

    • @shayusu8317
      @shayusu8317 6 років тому +1

      The circumstances around the whole issue aren't about an army of oldies "Not getting video games". Actually, some people involved in making this probably grew up with video games. The intentions around the classification are of good intention but, the disrespect and over aggressiveness of the classification of the disorder is frustrating. It'll take years before this thing even gets professional acknowledge. And that's assuming the signific community takes it seriously.... which it doesn't.
      That isn't to sayy old people do get video games. The reality is most of the elderly or even middle aged adults don't get and do not want to get video games. Like Hammer Meister1999, old people just cant make the connection.

I struggle with school because simply tired of it. I put effort into it though. I like video games because its like a different world for me, takes me out of the struggles of the world for a few a hours. People just need to chill.

    Totally agree with you. School doesn't actually let us explore our creativity. Instead we get standard tests and are expected to get As to show that we're actually intelligent or something.

    • @SupChad735
      @SupChad735 6 років тому +12

      Well thats how they tell you're smart. If everyone is handed a standard test, thin it makes it comparable among other people who took the test. There is a difference to being "smart" and being "creative". Being smart is mostly just solving questions and forming logical responses, and being creative is letting you imagine or create things that inspire or drive you.

      OneTuber for real though it's important for boys especially to learn things hands on, and to be outside/ rough housing etc. It's healthy. That's why your brain gets bored when you're sitting there fidgeting in your desk learning information that you know will be useless next week, your brain is telling you to go outside or go do something more interesting. (I'm not saying anything is wrong with gaming, just like any other hobby so long as you have a healthy balance game to your hearts content) but the school system is frickin stupid.
      Sit here. Follow these rules. Don't speak until spoken to.
      But the only way you can actually chase down your dreams/ What you think you want to do is by being assertive, by not waiting to be asked, by not "following the rules" school literally does more harm than good. No wonder so many of us get really fucking depressed and stressed when we're done.
      Nothing, I mean absolutely nothing gets handed to you in life, if you don't chase after a goal you'll always be feeling like the extreme bottom of the food chain, no way to fix the issue and it's not your fault, apparently... because sitting there and being complacent is what we're taught. The amount of single mothers raising children doesn't help either, mothers are awesome but they tend to give into they're kids wishes very easily, and we grow accustomed to having instant gratification. Again, not really the mothers fault, just how it's turns out.
      I mean I could go on for ages but I think you get the point, it's not that school doesn't benefit intelligent people, it's that it ignores every other important aspect- confidence, determination, the will to stick with shit for the long haul- traits you just don't get over night, but when we're shoved out into the world without them, life is merciless.

    • @sommerblume9671
      @sommerblume9671 6 років тому +9

      Joe Savage We aren't taught how to budget, how to invest, home prices vs. rent or where to live, taxes, starting up a career path effectively or plans for the future, bills and other crap. We are told to know what we want to be at the age of 15/16 completely so that we don't "fail". That we just gotta regurgitate facts and apply our own knowledge and that'll carry us through life...
      And it's hard to know what you'll want to do, can do and should do in 5-10 years time after being such a young teenager lmao. It's a shit ton of stress with little guidance unless you're parents are awesome or if you're a naturally street smart entrepreneur type kid etc.
      But... it'll never change, not in our lifetime because humans like sticking to what we know - even if it causes us youths to stress the fuck out and think we amount to nothing over a few grades and not having our entire life mapped out or super successful. Good points you made, dude.

    I play maybe 5 hours a day and ever since my mom saw it on the news, she's been freaking out and keeps threatening me that she will tell my doctor. And if i keep this up she'll have to send me to a psycologist or take my games away for a few months, because that is what they did to the kid on the news. And apparently taking away my games would "cure" this disorder, but if any thing i would get depressed because i couldnt do the thing i like to do.

    What’s the problem:
    The reason they play video games too get away from stress from school
    Or
    What they use to get away from the stress
    The thing is I do play sports and love it (like football, Wrestling, Lacrosse, and swimming-which I don’t like too much) love video games which both release stress than School where I’m a straight A student/ one b student where I learn some none useful fun stuff like Medieval Europe and some boring also none useful stuff like how plants photosynthesize

    Funny how rotting in front of a TV and mindlessly scrolling on social media (to the point where a city in Germany had to install pedestrian traffic lights *ON THE FLOOR* so people don't try to cross a busy road while looking at their phones) is considered normal, yet having a hobby is a mental disorder.

    Devil's advocate here: I don't think the WHO's idea is "those who play too many videogames have a disorder", it's that those who compulsively ignore real life issues because they prefer to live in their videogames have a disorder. I can see the reason behind that classification. I've never seen or heard of another hobby, including the two examples of sewing and tinkering with cars, or even overusing smartphones, having the same effect on the same large number of people as videogames. If the WHO believes disassociation from real life is unhealthy, and that videogames are a major cause of and manifestation for disassociation, then there are grounds for classifying a "gaming disorder".

      A person can get absorbed into anything. Whether they do too much work,watch too much tv, or anything else. To ignore lifes problems is on the individual not their habit of choice. Mind though that there are bad games and good games. A good game people would think is a game that you can set down at any moment to do something, a bad game people would think is a game you can't pause to do something for someone (usually a family member or relative). Although in itself that could present an underlying issue that people need to realize no one EVER wants to do what you say the moment you snap your fingers when they're busy. Patience and courtesy in this world is extremely rare to find in a person.

    Okay, honestly, it makes me mad how neglected this actually is. The fact that you game as a hobby isn't what defines the disorder. It's when gaming takes over your life and how you can develop the other "real" disorders. My life is quickly going downhill because of the disorder. I've developed depression because of this. I've lost enjoyment in literally everything that isn't gaming. My grades are plummeting because I just spend 10 hours a day gaming. I never go outside unless I have to and my weight has gone ahead and doubled because I just don't want to do anything than games. I've been having suicidal thoughts and I started cutting recently. GAMING DISORDER IS A SERIOUS THREAT. DON'T SAY IT'S NOT A REAL ISSUE WHEN IT ACTUALLY IS.
    If you can't understand why Gaming Disorder is an actual problem, fuck off.
    I really want to agree with you, I really do. But the fact that you're misinterpreting the actual disorder and calling it an excuse to stop kids from playing fortnite for 3 hours just feels like a personal attack because of the situation I'm in.
    So no, this is not "*bologna*", this is an actual problem that you're attacking. The way you're treating gaming disorder is disrespectful against those who have it and ignorant against the people who understand it and provide information about it.

      You only have yourself to blame for having "gaming disorder". Nobody forced you to play video games for 10 hours a day, nobody forced your to stop caring about school. You only have yourself to blame. Heck im autistic and and play video games on the daily yet I'm passing my classes . And from what I gathered from your channel the only real problem you have is cussing profusely, like seriously from the Cooking noddles video I saw on your channel,you cuss every other word you say. So if you want to whine about your supposed gaming disorder, got to tumblr (where all the other crybabies go to vent about their non existent problems).

    The sad thing is, Most people with depression are ignored- Especially teenagers, who have mood swings as a scapegoat for trying to stand up to Bullies, Abusers, or descrimination. However, many people who have this so-called "gaming disorder" use gaming as their main crutch for depression or anxiety. If depression is helped enough for the rates of it to plummet, then I can bet that at least a bit of the percentage of this "Gaming Addiction" will drop a bit as well.

  • @PinePizza

    I only partially agree with you, yes there are other main problems, the roots of mental illnesses are mostly caused by external pressure but games don't really help to cope with that for the most part. I see that when I look at myself, I'm 21 years old and I can decide if I get shit done or if I spend my day in front of my computer. I have insane pressure because my exams that I need to pass to become a lab tech will start soon and the only real solution is to study for that, running away doesn't help. I know the struggle that everyone needs to perform well and that it's not always easy but hiding in your room all day doesn't get the average person anywhere (success on UA-cam aside, btw this also doesn't necessarily last forever).
    Games are a nice hobby but I'm pretty sure they're not all positive. People abuse them like any other kind of media or substance and while they're almost never the root of mental illness, they sure can make some of them worse (anxiety for example, how can you cope if you forget how the outside world even works?).
    Don't get me wrong, I love games an I too sit on my computer for hours but people need to have some kind of self control or priority system so they don't fall behind in society.
    For example the car part, yes pc and cars are both hobbies but working on a car gives you actual life skills in comparison.. For the gaming part you often don't need any kind of knowledge.. I bet not even 1% of gamers know anything about programming (and that's fine).. But next to your whatever hobbies, pursue something that actually moves you forward in life, that's what I wanted to say.
    Sorry for my clunky English, I'm not a native speaker. Also just answer if your opinions are different, I'd love to get some new opinions about the whole topic with both points of view in mind.

    • @Peasham
      @Peasham 6 років тому

      "Substance"
      And this is the part where you lost the plot.
      Don't even try to compare something that's a mental addiction, to something that's a physical addiction, you'll be laughed at by anyone familiar with addictions.

    • @PinePizza
      @PinePizza 6 років тому

      Peasham that wasn't an actual comparison, maybe I didn't express myself correctly there. I know that physical addiction or mental addiction are completely different things, the point was more about this general behavior of people, everyone abuses something, will it be games, social media, that one beer after work that suddenly turns into more for whatever reason.. or even people who get into bad relationships that mess up their whole lives with harder drugs.. That can not be compared to mental addiction of course but the "coping with something" or "escaping from a certain situation" can be applied to both kinds of addiction.. It has to start somewhere, right?
      Maybe that's a bit close minded but in my experience it works mostly that way, when you have a problem or multiple problems you need to find a way to find a solution for those and if that's not possible and the mental pressure is too big, you start excessively doing something that distracts you, no matter if the main issue gets fixed or not (and sometimes it can get you into worse situations, video games are the harmless part here, despite being a huge waste of time)

    I already spend about 8 hours in school and the teachers give me homework and the blame is put on me if I don't do it. Every teacher who gives out homework should either be fired or forced to stop giving out homework. We spend so much time locked up in school and then they wonder why so many teens are suicidal. They put us in a depressing and anxiety-inducing environment and then blame our sadness on mental illness or puberty. This bullshit must come to an end.

    When the equivalent of Y2K happens and we have to fend for ourselves the first thing we're going to do is punch trees to get wood.

    Our newspaper called the disorder a "disease". Well crap, we're gonna need to find a cure for this.

    What I heard is if you play over 8 hours with no break you are addicted. Apparently I'm not just on the weed of gaming disorder but the heroine of it.

    This honestly needs to get out there, so many people are unaware that the W.H.O just wanted this as a scapegoat and have literally no facts to back this "disorder" up. I like the points you make in this video, maybe other UA-camrs will try to bring more attention to this subject as well.

    If gaming is a disorder, then so is watching soaps. Everyone, we must ban Carmelita from getting boinked by Carlos, it's a disorder because you can get addicted to it!

    The one thing that scares me about this classification. Is that if people scape goat this in the future and future genrations experience this scape goating head on than society might revert back to the age of when people who played video games were looked down upon, bullied and judged becuase they play video games.

    You sound more angry. I think you should do a non-rant topic video. The anger is gonna build up. I feel X's death had to do with this. Take you're time.
