I don't have any black friends either, but I blame that more on the fact that I haven't met many black people for the majority of my life because the city I grew up in (Vancouver) hardly has any and I barely came across them on a regular basis until I moved to Victoria for university. I believe a huge reason for why the black population in Vancouver is so low is because the city destroyed the only neighbourhood in town with a mostly black population (Hogan's alley) back in the late sixties to make way for the Georgia viaduct. Whether it was targeted for demolition due to racism from those higher up or if there was no other way to build it without tearing down the neighbourhood, I see that as the main reason for why I barely met any black people growing up in vancouver, which I personally think really sucks because that's a culture in my city that I really would have liked to have seen growing up. A huge portion of Jimi Hendrix's family lived there (and even Jimi at one point when he was a very young child) and that's just a small chunk of the heritage that was erased by the city when they destroyed that neighbourhood.
