- Hi All,
Just a quick video showing our first Black Copper Maran egg!! I had no idea what I had bought when I picked these chickens up. Once I read up on the breed, I have been impatiently awaiting my first egg. Wow is all I can say, these are the darkest shelled eggs I have ever seen !!

Nice egg, I have three Black Copper Merans coming in Feb.
Thank you !! So far I find the very docile. Not pick up and pet friendly, but my roos have not attacked me lol. My Hamburg rooster, that's a different story LOL he is a mean bugger.
@@HagonjonesHomestead speaking of crazy roosters, you should do a vid on them and ask people to comment on their experiences. Cheers.
@@raincoast9010 Great Idea !! Thank you Everyone can watch Fred (Hamburg) Chace me around the property LOL
Of interest would be your feeder setup, waterer, heat sources if any, how you protect from predators, laying boxes, shavings and materials used inside etc.
How old were they when you got your first bcm egg?
about 7-8 months old
If you don't mind me asking, how do you make money on the Homestead. My dream is to live on a Homestead with a small scale plant nursery
Great Question,
Currently, I also have a job outside of the Homestead, but luckily I work from home. So far my farm based income sources have been
- Vegetable seedlings (Spring)
- Tree Sales (spring & Fall)
- Small wood working products made from Black Walnut ( I have a 5 acre stand)
- I like to account for grocery savings as well. We spend $300 a week as vegetarians on groceries, if I can shave $150.00 in veggies that's $600.00 a month!!
Working on growing the Tree side of the business as the main stay income source. Also, Eggs, "Ready To Lay" Chickens, Goat breeding and anywhere else I think I can generate a few thousand a year !! It all adds up and one day soon it will be better than my regular job !
