The noise is a good thing. It's the lake freezing. If you go at night when it's freezing outside you can hear all the noises of the water moving and freezing at the same time. It's literally like a violin and other instruments that are playing. It's Beautiful.
I love how wholesome and genuine the ending moment was “Thanks for clearing it for me!” “You bet!” You both sounded like you really meant it and it’s just so sweet! ☺️
Fun fact: if you start to slide on ice in a vehicle and there's snow on the shoulder of the road or the next lane is snowy, slide into the snow, it actually provides quite a bit of traction. I grew up in Chicagoland winters and drove over the road in a big truck, I've used this in real life to prevent spinouts on icy roads.
The snow sticks to the blades of the skates and starts to melt a bit then refreezes, then sticks more snow onto the ice. Its a pain and can make you trip up.
It's not the snow per se, it's the patches of snow and ice crystals that are left in unexpected places. You get going on a nice smooth glide and relax into it and a hidden clump of 'crunch' comes up and brings you down, lol

My grandparents lived on a lake. When I was young, we used to shovel the lake all the time. I am not a skater, but we would clear the snow and make a toboggan run out of it. Then I got married, and my wife is a skater. I would regularly go out and clear a rink for her. Later, she even taught our older daughter to skate on that lake. My grandparents passed a long time ago and I moved out of the state, but I have photos and memories. That's just life in the upper part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula!
My husband's from Midland Mi and his grandparents lived in the UP . I loved the stories. No running water in the house. Had a creek in backyard. No indoor plumbing . Crazy!!!!!! I My Louisiana swamp ass tried to ice skate...... Almost needed an ambulance. Parents have a lake house now. The ice cracking IS DISTURBING!!!! Lol.

Yes , it does . I didn't have alot of friends that could do it but I learned everything and they didn't because I also moved around when I was 🌱 young .
It’s hard not to adore a person that would go out in the literal freezing cold to clear a skating area for you on a frozen lake. Despite that, I still absolutely will never be that person.
When it isn’t winter, if u want to be able to skate in your backyard I would suggest getting a synthetic ice rink. It’s basically a type of plastic u can skate on. I have one in my backyard and I use it in the summer and stuff. It’s not as smooth as a regular ice rink but it’s rlly the best it’s gonna get unless you get a real ice rink which is a lot more money and a lot harder to take car of
