    When these situations hit, i engage water change, and more water change and then some more. i dont run ecotech MP pumps any more, i had 3 rust up, each time impacting my sps.

    Sorry you are going through this issue Dmitry. I would consider trying Purit from Brightwell Aquatics as it works very well. I believe Canada does carry it because they’re in 50-60 countries.

    This is a weird one. One thing I think though is that rusting equipment would not necessarily give you copper unless the piece of equipment itself was made from copper. One thing that cane to mind was that your system is in the basement. Do tou have ant exposed copper pipe above the tanks. I know a reefer that had a frag system in his basement with exposed pipe above the tank. There was condensation on the copper pipe that was dripping into his system causing all types of issues. Good luck.

      Or maybe there’s something leaching copper into your source water… but wouldn’t that be removed by your rodi filter? Is there anything in your rodi filter that’s leaching copper??

    Phosphate isn’t majorly high or anything to worry about , if going to increase add 0.5 of a table spoon rather than a full per dosage & see how you go, also try running some poly filter floss which can remove copper , I started running some just for peace of mind in case this situation happens. Good luck & hope the icp shows up something for you.

    Rust = iron oxide = not toxic. Corals love growing on ship wrecks.

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  2 роки тому

      Agreed, I know of people who dose iron into their tanks, especially if you have chaeto. But what else could this be?

    • @Harolddespui
      @Harolddespui 2 роки тому +1

      @@TreasureCorals Iron and iron oxide is chemically not the same though. GFO, which is used to remove phosphates, contains a form of iron oxid.
      Too much iron as the trace element can be harmfull, too much iron oxid is not. So don't worry about a rusty magnet or pump, it's not a problem.

    No doubt someone has mentioned the use of bacteria already. Still, Telegraham went through something similiar I believe. His response was Dr. Tim's Eco-balance. For the 23 bucks in Canada, I'm gonna try it to help with other issues. If it can't hurt, maybe try the bacteria route. I'm not a fan of using something I don't know but all bacteria products are wrapped in mystery. So ...

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  2 роки тому

      Thank you for the advice. I see that there's a bunch of different strains - 261, 461, one and only. Which one are you going with and why?

    • @TheGarage656
      @TheGarage656 2 роки тому

      @@TreasureCorals I have tried most of them for specific reasons. E.g., Zeovits Cyanoclean bacteria is great for cyano. Dr. Tim's Waste Away is great for water clarity. Brightwells MB7 is fine for overall lowering phosphates too. But for attacking other bad bacteria specifically, I'm going to try Eco-balance. I'm told these products have bacteria but also sources of carbon for accelerating the bacteria. Does this also help the bad bacteria? I don't know. Presumably if I dose it correctly it will out-compete the bad bacteria. If (when) my sps start to struggle I will also be doing a microbiomic test in addition to ICP, to see if there are any pathogens. In an emergency, I've also heard of people using chemiclean (same dosing as if to treat cyano) because it is an antibiotic and might help reset things. But I only have experience using it for cyano. The only other suggestion is Flatworm Stop (Zeovit) because it might help the sps "beef up" so to say. But that stuff ain't cheap. In short, if it was me (I would already be doing water changes, running carbon and adding metal absorbing media--cubrisorb--just in case) my first plan would be: (1) dose eco-balance (2) consider flatworm stop (3) ICP and bacteria testing and "maybe" (4) chemiclean if nothing works or things are going bad really fast.
      But, again, this bacteria stuff is so unknown we are all searching in the dark.
      Sorry to hear about your troubles.

    So, did you retest your source water and saltwater after removing the pump(s)? What number did you get?

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  2 роки тому +1

      I just did. Freshly mixed is 0.02 ppm. RO water is zero.

    • @estonianreefer2851
      @estonianreefer2851 2 роки тому

      That narrows things down that it can't be RO water. Did you mix new saltwater In the same container what u always have used? Just in case there could be contaminats in the container. Could it be contaminated salt? ( Unlikely but still possible ) anyhow something in process of mixing your saltwater must occur to contribute for copper to show up. ICP could confirm Hanna results so it could rule out faulty test kit results. Hope you will figure it out. I'm keeping an eye out for future updates. Best of luck.

      Jake adams runs a reef studio mate, i have nothing against him personally he is probably a nice guy, but he is just a highly sponsored mouthpiece for ecotech he wont even admit that the blue leds dont match in multiple units, my lfs where running multiple units and they tested what i said and they saw it for them selves and have now had to drop ecotech from thier sales as they had the same issue as i had and a few more of their customers who bought ecotech radions had the same problem, as for slight trace copper in a home reef when your running carbon skimmers gfo etc it shouldnt effect things, unless you have a piece of copper rusting in your actual water, ask a proper marine biologist he/she will clarify that natural ocean water where corals do the best contains loads of different elements 1 being copper 100% fact
