      @@SamGautreau7 ... how do you figure? Erat was acquired in 2013, and traded in 2014. Caps won the Cup in 2018. That trade was 100% irrelevant to the Caps winning - except they might have done it a few years earlier if they had kept Forsberg.

    • @SamGautreau7
      @SamGautreau7 4 роки тому +3

      Jason Williams Because the Erat trade got George Mcphee fired. And their current gm, Brian Mclellan is one of the reasons why they were even able to win the cup. He made some key trades after being hired which led them to win the cup. If that trade never happened, Mcphee would probably still be gm or he would’ve been fired a couple years too late and they never would’ve won the cup

    I think you misspoke about the Hawks trade. Hawks won in 2015 against the Lightning, so it wasn't 3 years removed...
    Also regarding the Danault trade, at the time I think he didn't fit into Joel Quenneville's coaching scheme. Q had that tendency with several young players where they wouldn't get a lot of quality playing time and the limited time they had weren't the most productive. Yes Danault turned into a very solid player, but at the time of the trade and with Anisimov and Toews on the roster there wasn't going to be a way for him to crack the top of the lineup. Little did we know the changes the Hawks would make in trading Anisimov as well as other moves..

Bad trade led to a much needed rebuild and what’s looking like a bright future.

    Trades are more complicated than you make it out to be. Take Panarin for Saad. Everyone said that Chicago lost that trade, Panarin is elite players and Saad is just great. 2 years later Panarin left Bluejackets (which he would have done in Chicago as well since both teams didn't have enough space in salary cap). So sometimes you need to make bad deals.

    As bad as the Panarin to Columbus trade is made out to be by hockey UA-camrs (the one that is brought up the most as Bowman's worst trade), he was signed to a "bridge" contract meaning that he was going to be trade at some point during the 2 year deal or let walk in FA when it was up. The Danualt trade was much worse in my opinion, being that it was easily avoidable and didn't need to happen at all. I have it tied for Bowman's worst trade (of the ones that the results have shown for both teams) with the trading of Teravainen (this is were looking ahead via salary cap situation and trading Panarin might've been the better option and more justifiable) to get out of Bryan Bickell's contract for a 2016 2nd round pick (Artur Kayumov is playing in the KHL until at least 2022) and a 2017 3rd round pick (was traded) .Will have to wait to see what Montreal does with the picks that they have acquired from the Andrew Shaw back to Chicago trade either way it is another bad trade by Stan Bowman.

    Pens fans rake us Caps fans over the coals for the Filip Forsberg trade, but I call their bluff, cause the Pens also made a similar blunder years before we did. Did you know Markus Naslund actually began his career in Pittsburgh, and he used to play on the same line as Super Mario himself? Apparently, Naslund wasn't too happy in Pittsburgh, and that may be why his career started off pretty sluggish, so he was shipped to Vancouver in exchange for Alek Stojanov, who flamed out pretty quickly. I'm guessing this is why a certain bunch of Yinzers are so adamant about the Canucks giving them Elias Pettersson (a fellow Swede like Naslund) as "compensation" for fleecing them. I mean, when a player named Pettersson was traded to them, Yinzers on Twitter were celebrating their "heist of the century", thinking it was Elias when it was actually Marcus Petterson, a defenseman (and no, Elias and Marcus are not related), coming their way.

    That Duchene trade was wild from the start. We never were going to contend that year. Ottawa only were winners every two years under Craig Anderson. I would have rather had kept the pick and traded Turris as if we were sellers given that every player we have bought has been a bust since 2009. In addition all smart market teams should be sellers. I hope DeBrincat works out but I'm being realistic given how we have him for 2 years and how are other american sniper we acquired worked out.
    Imagine Zegras or Byram on the sens and we had Norris and Stuzle in the pipeline as well. Could have drafted a sniper in 2020.

    Thought I would see the Erik Karlsson trade that ended up resulting in Ottawa getting Byfield/Stutzle, Josh Norris (AHL ROTY), Balcers, Chris Tierney, Dylan Demelo (now a 3rd round pick) and a few other assets I might be forgetting.
