this video is amazing, a similar thing happened to me where i would start a game to only drop it mid way because i'm afraid to continue, i played elden ring, sekiro, lies of p each multiple times without finishing them until i realised i was just scared, i went back into each one, and the joy of overcoming that challange and knowing that i can be good for that encouraged me to finish the other games,,, i felt a super power, i uped the challange with mods and still overcame those games ... what a journey

This video is amazing, you go into so much depth with how you feel and if not for trying in another game you never would've found your confidence but games teach you so many things and out of respect for what Monster Hunter gave you which was a challenging world you braved the world of Elden Ring born of many similarities. This has given me a lot of thought.

Nice work! ER is my first soulslike and one of my first proper gaming experiences since childhood. I love it, it is beautiful, and it constantly scares the s**t out of me. Sweating through my palms, heart in my ears. Frankly, I'm surprised I keep playing. Like another commenter here: this is a time in life where I'm trying to push through fear on many fronts. ER, for me, has become an allegory for facing setback, picking myself back up again and again, and proving to myself that I can. Tonight I was discouraged and took rest. Tomorrow I will try again. Its funny to me, that i love Shooter games, I love Racing games, hell i even kinda like Sports games. Im nit very competitive in gaming anymorez thay peaked for me back during Call of Duty Modern Warfare series (the good ones, back in the mid 2000s) But as much as i enjoy the challemge and the sense of accomplishment. Elden ring. I struggled my way through Dark Souls 3, Bloodbourne was brutal but rewarding. That absolute Anime Dragonball style fight with the gravekeeper dude.. blew me away. I died and died and died my way through it. And i know, that Death in a FromSoft game is not a punishment, but merely an unsubtle reminder, "hey.. you goofed/made a mistake.. try again, this time.. reaxh and fight.. or come back later, but try again" But Elden Ring... Idk what it is. I LOVE the game. But i am absolute garbage at it. Maybe im getting older and my reaction time has slowed a bit, maybe im not as able to "Git Gud" like i used too. Its absurd and yet.. natural thay something so trivial as a video game. Fills me with dread. Im playing a Confessor, Spell Sword. Outside my normal, "warrior" style (grab a big weapon, slap on a mountain of Armor and have at em) i learned real fast that just dont work in the lands between. I grasp the mechanics of observe, learn, and be patient for my turn or make my opportunity to punish. I suck at dodging, im aggressively mediocre at blocking, im nearly useless at judging when my opportunity is. And yet, i still want to play this game. I still want to climb that mountain. But i find it hard. Not mechanically, which it kind of is.. but. Motivation. I load it up on my Series X. Im stoked. I see the mountain in front of me. I whistle for Torrent and i get at it. I handily defeat the overworkd enemies, i understand them. I have room to move, i really focus on patience and timing.. and as rhe hour passes into 2 hours. I feel this dread rising. Ive never had a game so abundantly make me feel so inadequate and incompetent as a gamer as this. Idk know how to describe it. I start my session with this stalwart attitude of grit and determination. I have a slug fest and brural climb ahead of me.. i am undeterred. I am unafraid. But after some time passes and ive lost some runes, found some loot. That.. dread.. that feeling of just being beneath the challenge. It begins to take hold after a few deaths. And i start to get sloppier, slower, less tatical, more mistakes.. and it begins to build. But dammit.. i keep coming back, and i keep putting on a brave face and then.. again. Inevitably i start to shrink from the challenge, doubt and frustration taking over. Maybe, its possible, ive just nevere been good at these games, which is most likely. As ive always managed to suffer through it and usually win by hard work and outclassing enemies by jjat growing beyond them in power, leaving skill to atrophy in lieu of brute force power. And that always leaves me. Unresolved. Unsatisfied.. i didnt beat them.. i didnt win. My numbers were bigger. I guess theres nothing else tontry but.. try. Force myself slowly but surlely out of my comfort zone and into the pants shitting, anxiety inducing panic of pressing up when i needed to swap my sword only to recognize too late.. i screwed up. Now im really panicking.. i nedd to heal, i need space. Spam dodge.. im low on stamina and nowhere to run, shit i wasnt paying attention to my surrpundings and trapped myself. BLOCK is all i can do.. low on stamina, im staggered. Mashing rhe heal button only to realize ove bungled that up too and now ive just pointlessly drank an FP flask.. and im dead. Its me, its a skill issue 100% or atleast 80%.. but that 20% is really daunting. Am i even really capable of this freaking madness anymore. And that bothers me more than just being trash at it.. and the dread from it. Causes me to ditch the effort and squat at the nearest grace... and after wrestling with myself for a moment. I quit to menu and go play something more relaxing. Trying.. atleast trying. Really giving it a go. I need to find that again. I died... omg.. dozens of times past losing count against the Nameless King.. but i eventually beat him. And Margit trashes me like im useles waste. The Elden Beast.. which ive made it all the way too by sheer brute force of will.. ive never beaten. That magic super spam. I can (back in shape, atleast) deal with Radagon with relatively decent effort.. and then hit a wall again and again and again with that acid trip ethereal magic dinosaur. Gahh.. 🤦♂️ this freaking game. I want to beat it half out of spite and indignance, and half out of desire to not give up. Subscribe.. definitely earned brother

One begins the session after a long day of work completely excited because one remembers all the aspects They give you satisfaction and sometimes the challenge is a little more than the stock of spirit we have. I think the trick here is that even if you feel like that spirit is diminishing, Lift your chin, square your shoulders and get back on the horse again. Certainly a brute force run can help you get to the end but it is like I say in the video, feeling like I am doing things wrong because I am consuming too much energy on simple aspects. Ciertamente recomendaría que pruebes Monster Hunter And After beating it, give it a different try at a softer run with a different perspective. I'm not saying it's the best thing in the world, but in my specific case it made me approach Elden Ring feeling barrel-chested. Thanks for watching! @phantom-boogie Took your advice, jumped back into the game, having a load of fun now. Kinda feel silly for making mountain out of a mole hill. But perspective is funny like that. Learned the lesson that Souls-Games teach. I went back through some of the areas I struggled with, with a new considerably underleveled character. It made me realize.. all that time I spent. My character isn't the one that got stronger and more powerful.. I did. Sometimes we just look at the problem from the wrong angle, and some time and some sage advice can reevaluate it for us. On the other hand, would truly recommend you to pick up Monster Hunter. Given that the next installment releases next year, it's just the right time to get on with it; also, it tends to be 67% off with the expansion when on sale. I am learning how to improve my videos, without oversaturating them. I am truly happy you enjoyed them!♥️
I don't know what it is, but I really love this video. Coming from being obsessed with bloodborne to the point where I couldn't remember being bad at it, elden ring taught me to have some patience with myself when it came to getting good at it. Here's to hoping the games we love improve our personal lives and outlooks

A great nostalgic video and an amazing comparison between games from different big franchises for those who dont know so much about these games or for those who try it once and leave it instead of givin it a go 🧖🏽♂️💜
DS2 is only hated because it's secretly the most interesting. "It's a skill issue" has always been a lie. Enemies are more aggressive than in older games, true. But there's a lot of extra tools, like spirit ashes and magic, that can make Elden Ring significantly more accessible, like in Monster Hunter. The problem is that Souls games have always been obtuse. New players always struggle getting started. I think your comparison to MHW does a great job at demonstrating that. Souls players need to get over themselves and recognize there's legitimate reasons why people are turned off of these games.

Although everything that responds to the additional aids and tools that Elden provides, It is true that it is very dark and can be misleading; without going too far, Monster Hunter does something similar at different times. Some skills you can incorporate into your set don't do as much as they seem or, And the devs don't tell you this, These are abilities that may not energize as easily from each other, and you're wasting slots in your set that could be filled with more beneficial powers. @@phantom-boogieif I could share some personal advice for elden ring, respec early and often. A lot of weapons can be modified to different builds, but a lot of weapons need to be built with your stats around them kinda. If you find anything that's cool and wanna try out, don't be afraid to respec. There's tons of larval tears (the consumable item you need) between the base game and dlc.

I spend a Lot of time around youtube, and some video edits i find appalling, be it visually, or narration wise. I don't feel like I am a great speaker, but i felt like going at a pace some might sync to.

ER is my first soulslike and one of my first proper gaming experiences since childhood. I love it, it is beautiful, and it constantly scares the s**t out of me. Sweating through my palms, heart in my ears. Frankly, I'm surprised I keep playing. Like another commenter here: this is a time in life where I'm trying to push through fear on many fronts. ER, for me, has become an allegory for facing setback, picking myself back up again and again, and proving to myself that I can.
Tonight I was discouraged and took rest. Tomorrow I will try again.

Its funny to me, that i love Shooter games, I love Racing games, hell i even kinda like Sports games.
Im nit very competitive in gaming anymorez thay peaked for me back during Call of Duty Modern Warfare series (the good ones, back in the mid 2000s)
But as much as i enjoy the challemge and the sense of accomplishment. Elden ring.
I struggled my way through Dark Souls 3, Bloodbourne was brutal but rewarding. That absolute Anime Dragonball style fight with the gravekeeper dude.. blew me away. I died and died and died my way through it.
And i know, that Death in a FromSoft game is not a punishment, but merely an unsubtle reminder, "hey.. you goofed/made a mistake.. try again, this time.. reaxh and fight.. or come back later, but try again"
But Elden Ring...
Idk what it is. I LOVE the game. But i am absolute garbage at it. Maybe im getting older and my reaction time has slowed a bit, maybe im not as able to "Git Gud" like i used too.
Its absurd and yet.. natural thay something so trivial as a video game. Fills me with dread. Im playing a Confessor, Spell Sword. Outside my normal, "warrior" style (grab a big weapon, slap on a mountain of Armor and have at em) i learned real fast that just dont work in the lands between. I grasp the mechanics of observe, learn, and be patient for my turn or make my opportunity to punish.
I suck at dodging, im aggressively mediocre at blocking, im nearly useless at judging when my opportunity is.
And yet, i still want to play this game. I still want to climb that mountain. But i find it hard.
Not mechanically, which it kind of is.. but. Motivation. I load it up on my Series X. Im stoked. I see the mountain in front of me. I whistle for Torrent and i get at it. I handily defeat the overworkd enemies, i understand them. I have room to move, i really focus on patience and timing.. and as rhe hour passes into 2 hours. I feel this dread rising. Ive never had a game so abundantly make me feel so inadequate and incompetent as a gamer as this.
Idk know how to describe it. I start my session with this stalwart attitude of grit and determination. I have a slug fest and brural climb ahead of me.. i am undeterred. I am unafraid.
But after some time passes and ive lost some runes, found some loot. That.. dread.. that feeling of just being beneath the challenge.
It begins to take hold after a few deaths. And i start to get sloppier, slower, less tatical, more mistakes.. and it begins to build.
But dammit.. i keep coming back, and i keep putting on a brave face and then.. again. Inevitably i start to shrink from the challenge, doubt and frustration taking over.
Maybe, its possible, ive just nevere been good at these games, which is most likely. As ive always managed to suffer through it and usually win by hard work and outclassing enemies by jjat growing beyond them in power, leaving skill to atrophy in lieu of brute force power.
And that always leaves me. Unresolved. Unsatisfied.. i didnt beat them.. i didnt win.
My numbers were bigger.
I guess theres nothing else tontry but.. try.
Force myself slowly but surlely out of my comfort zone and into the pants shitting, anxiety inducing panic of pressing up when i needed to swap my sword only to recognize too late.. i screwed up. Now im really panicking.. i nedd to heal, i need space. Spam dodge.. im low on stamina and nowhere to run, shit i wasnt paying attention to my surrpundings and trapped myself. BLOCK is all i can do.. low on stamina, im staggered.
Mashing rhe heal button only to realize ove bungled that up too and now ive just pointlessly drank an FP flask.. and im dead.
Its me, its a skill issue 100% or atleast 80%.. but that 20% is really daunting. Am i even really capable of this freaking madness anymore.
And that bothers me more than just being trash at it.. and the dread from it. Causes me to ditch the effort and squat at the nearest grace... and after wrestling with myself for a moment. I quit to menu and go play something more relaxing.
Trying.. atleast trying. Really giving it a go.
I need to find that again.
I died... omg.. dozens of times past losing count against the Nameless King.. but i eventually beat him.
And Margit trashes me like im useles waste. The Elden Beast.. which ive made it all the way too by sheer brute force of will.. ive never beaten. That magic super spam. I can (back in shape, atleast) deal with Radagon with relatively decent effort.. and then hit a wall again and again and again with that acid trip ethereal magic dinosaur.
Gahh.. 🤦♂️ this freaking game.
I want to beat it half out of spite and indignance, and half out of desire to not give up.

@@matthewbartley2746 My friend, thank you very much for sharing your experience. It is just as you say. One begins the session after a long day of work completely excited because one remembers all the aspects They give you satisfaction and sometimes the challenge is a little more than the stock of spirit we have. I think the trick here is that even if you feel like that spirit is diminishing, Lift your chin, square your shoulders and get back on the horse again. Certainly a brute force run can help you get to the end but it is like I say in the video, feeling like I am doing things wrong because I am consuming too much energy on simple aspects. Ciertamente recomendaría que pruebes Monster Hunter And After beating it, give it a different try at a softer run with a different perspective. I'm not saying it's the best thing in the world, but in my specific case it made me approach Elden Ring feeling barrel-chested.

Took your advice, jumped back into the game, having a load of fun now. Kinda feel silly for making mountain out of a mole hill. But perspective is funny like that.
Learned the lesson that Souls-Games teach.
I went back through some of the areas I struggled with, with a new considerably underleveled character. It made me realize.. all that time I spent.
My character isn't the one that got stronger and more powerful.. I did.
Sometimes we just look at the problem from the wrong angle, and some time and some sage advice can reevaluate it for us.

On the other hand, would truly recommend you to pick up Monster Hunter. Given that the next installment releases next year, it's just the right time to get on with it; also, it tends to be 67% off with the expansion when on sale.

I don't know what it is, but I really love this video. Coming from being obsessed with bloodborne to the point where I couldn't remember being bad at it, elden ring taught me to have some patience with myself when it came to getting good at it. Here's to hoping the games we love improve our personal lives and outlooks

DS2 is only hated because it's secretly the most interesting.
"It's a skill issue" has always been a lie. Enemies are more aggressive than in older games, true. But there's a lot of extra tools, like spirit ashes and magic, that can make Elden Ring significantly more accessible, like in Monster Hunter. The problem is that Souls games have always been obtuse. New players always struggle getting started.
I think your comparison to MHW does a great job at demonstrating that. Souls players need to get over themselves and recognize there's legitimate reasons why people are turned off of these games.

@@natebookout1353 I just noticed the expansion you made in the comment. I agree you are completely correct. Although everything that responds to the additional aids and tools that Elden provides, It is true that it is very dark and can be misleading; without going too far, Monster Hunter does something similar at different times. Some skills you can incorporate into your set don't do as much as they seem or, And the devs don't tell you this, These are abilities that may not energize as easily from each other, and you're wasting slots in your set that could be filled with more beneficial powers.

@@phantom-boogieif I could share some personal advice for elden ring, respec early and often. A lot of weapons can be modified to different builds, but a lot of weapons need to be built with your stats around them kinda. If you find anything that's cool and wanna try out, don't be afraid to respec. There's tons of larval tears (the consumable item you need) between the base game and dlc.
